Bow-ties are done --- so I get to reward myself with a bit of Moth in a
Window block sewing!
Besides – the way the basement is currently upside down with the carpet tile
installation, it was the only project I could get to without having to climb
over and under other stuff!
It's been a long day ---including THREE trips to Lowes to get stuff we needed, and this project has just begun.
I'll be sewing for an hour to an hour and a half ----I'd sure love some company!

Some have had problems with the feed, getting audio just fine but no video. If this happens to you, check to make sure that your flash player is up to date.

LOVE the new carpet tiles! I think that is the way to go so you can replace the tiles in heavy traffic areas. I just had a new baby come visit and I'm on top of the world with the scent of baby. Just a thought...I started ww a year ago and am down 60lbs...so of course we are eating better - BUT sweet hubby still eats pretty much what he wants - his cholesterol dropped 20 points once he started eating oatmeal every morning....that's about all he changed and it helped him. No extra exercise except longarming all day...lol
I see the new background (love it) -- I am using Internet explorer. I also see it on my Ipad. Internet explorer is just about 3 seconds ahead of the Ipad. Hi Bonnie, I am sewing along with you - finally! here in Arizona it is only a little past six o'clock. I am doing four inch courthouse steps blocks- paper pieced. I am sewing on my Singer 301. I have a bunch of antique machines like you but I think I like piecing on this one the best. I like it even better than my featherweight.

Bow Ties quilt looks great! I'm servicing my Featherweight while watching QuiltCam tonight. On the issue of cholesterol, I'm in the same boat. Not only can you forget the hush puppies, but also shellfish, any deep fried foods, fatty meats, all the good stuff!
I just did my 'Bow Tie' Quilt yoga just in time to get a picture before Quilt cam. Love that term you spoke of earlier this week. Glad you made it though to your sewing area. I am Knitting while I listen tonight. My sewing machine isn't close enough to the Computer.

Just read that Alycia in Colorado is doing a Quilt of Valor block challenge, using your scrappy trip around the world pattern. (With your permission, of course.) I love that pattern and will be participating. She is requesting blocks for Quilts of Valor...and with Veteran's Day coming up....what a fun way to honor our military. She is good about sharing pictures so I can't wait to see more Bonnie's Trips in Red, white and blue!

Oh my gosh the cheddar bow ties looks just beautiful! So glad you're displaying it for us. And I love the new background to your blog. Working on some table runners tonight.
The paint chip idea is brilliant. I had a hard time telling exactly what your colors were for Roll roll cotton boll as they don't always show up true on the computer.
When hubby & I did our kitchen tiles when we had to cut around corners and such we used copy paper and made a pattern. Marked the top and then we were able to just turn it over to mark and cut on the bottom of the tile. Sue Upstate NY
Was sewing last night and started on string blocks for the border of Tulip Fields-kept saying I was going to bed after this set of squares. Ten sets later (midnight) I finally kept my word! Yawn.... tonight will just clip off the bonus squares from the Tumbleweed components!!! Hope I can see to cut straight!! Yawn....

Hey Bonnie, I LOVE the new the sides of the web page .Very nice ! Last quilt cam I started crazy patch mug rug blocks with my Christmas scraps . I got 4 done so far . So I'm back at them again tonight . I'm hoping to make about 12 in all for co workers . I will be doing scrappy stars if there is any Xmas scraps left .No plans for them yet but I have so much Christmas scraps that I have to get it under control :) Once under control .... Bonnie - You were just talking about old sewing machines. I love my old 1950's sewing machine, called a "Sew-Mor", and use it all the time. I think it's a Japanese machine. It's 2-tone seafoam green and I learned to sew on it in the 1960's. It still has little numbers my mom stuck on it to help me with the threading order. That machine is SO special to me...such memories.
Wow -- the bowties are finished ! Looks great. I'm working on a binding tonight -- squared quilt, made binding from backing I cut off, attached, pressed and folded it over .. now it's ready to machine stitch down .. phew ! Hope you don't get too drenched with Sandy coming !

Also excited to find someone in Northern Virginia that will be working on my treadle machine that I got for FREE. It doesn't work at all, but it was free and he will fix it for only $100 and will only take 2 weeks. Love watching you, and so happy my online college class finished so I could watch tonight. hi, Bonnie,,,while you were in Bali, you let us watch a woman quiting and she used quite a bit of batting, leaving her quilt "puffy" in contrast to our quilts in the US, which are quilted to death and flat,,,,do you think the thicker batting and less qilting stitchs will ever come back into "vogue",,,my grandchildren prefer the "puffy" quilts in our house from the 70's and 80's so much better than the recent quilts.

My junior year at Oregon State I used to ride my bike to classes and would pass a dorm where someone had 'by by miss american pie' blaring out their dorm window every day. That is my strongest memory of that song!
I once made a 2" square out of 5 snippets of fabric, it was all I had left and i needed the piece. It gives me such a giggle every time i see it in the quilt.

Yeah! I'm quilting my bowties now. I was originally going to make it as large as yours but when I figured out how many more bowties I would need I changed my mind and decided a smaller quilt would work just fine for the daybed I'm going to have in my gigantic new sewing room in the new home we are building. Now if I can only get myself to start packing my sewing room.....before I pack everything up (we will be in a rental for several months), I will be needing to know what NOT to box up.....I'm taking your Winston Ways class at Block Party in Portland. Naturally Block Party is being held between my moves.....hope you can help out with a fabric requirements list.....
Hi Bonnie Finally get to sew with you ; also cutting as I go. Due to time difference I usually miss you here on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. Cutting for flying geese for a border using my version of your easy angle ruler. Also using a tip from one of your patterns I read recently when trimming the end of your strip to cut the centre triangle instead of wasting fabric cut a half square triangle for use somewhere else.....loving this tip.

Oh how funny, I am sitting here sorting magazines(about 3 years worth) and putting ideas in my book right now! It was overwhelming me and I had to get it done. It is so satisfying to get this done and you had inspired me with your cleaning those hidden areas lately!
Hi Bonnie, I visit your blog daily and tuned in last night and worked on a Jinny Beyer project that I bought years ago. It is great that you open up your home to everyone to stitch with you...kind of like a retreat...could you picture how big of a room we would need if we were all in the same space. I live in Charlotte, NC and I am a full time pharmacist. Running and quilting are my therapy to stay off of drugs. Just competed in my 20th marathon in Chicago in Oct. I hope you can get your hip remedied soon...I know how much not running can play with me and exercise is so important to our health. I love your blog and just maybe I will try to join in on the mystery this go round..You have a great job...it is so cool to see where you get to travel and I love that you share and blog soo often...We are around the same age so I can so relate to you...keep up the great work..

Do you usually start with a plan for a quilt when you start sewing those blocks, or do you just make a bunch and then go from there?

Just joining you from Utah here. My dad gave me my mothers old portable machine. Its an Universal brand electric machine. I haven't been able to find any information on the internet. Can you offer any help on references?

hi, Bonnie,,,while you were in Bali, you let us watch a woman quiting and she used quite a bit of batting, leaving her quilt "puffy" in contrast to our quilts in the US, which are quilted to death and flat,,,,do you think the thicker batting and less qilting stitchs will ever come back into "vogue",,,my grandchildren prefer the "puffy" quilts in our house from the 70's and 80's so much better than the recent quilts.
Bonnie, did you put your square in your tote box that you were digging in (you mentioned that you hadn't unloaded everything since you went to Karen's).

I once made a 2" square out of 5 snippets of fabric, it was all I had left and i needed the piece. It gives me such a giggle every time i see it in the quilt.
Bonnie - I love the old quilts where there wasn't enough fabric and the maker just "Made do", just like you just did with the block!

Yeah! I'm quilting my bowties now. I was originally going to make it as large as yours but when I figured out how many more bowties I would need I changed my mind and decided a smaller quilt would work just fine for the daybed I'm going to have in my gigantic new sewing room in the new home we are building. Now if I can only get myself to start packing my sewing room.....before I pack everything up (we will be in a rental for several months), I will be needing to know what NOT to box up.....I'm taking your Winston Ways class at Block Party in Portland. Naturally Block Party is being held between my moves.....hope you can help out with a fabric requirements list.....

Finally get to sew with you ; also cutting as I go. Due to time difference I usually miss you here on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. Cutting for flying geese for a border using my version of your easy angle ruler. Also using a tip from one of your patterns I read recently when trimming the end of your strip to cut the centre triangle instead of wasting fabric cut a half square triangle for use somewhere else.....loving this tip.
went to thrift shop but didn't score anything but books. that is always good too. love the new floor and the background. have a great time with quiltCam. Joen in Etex.

Oh how funny, I am sitting here sorting magazines(about 3 years worth) and putting ideas in my book right now! It was overwhelming me and I had to get it done. It is so satisfying to get this done and you had inspired me with your cleaning those hidden areas lately!

I am the same way.. I like to touch my things.. I dont even keep my books on the pc.. I do all my bookwork by hand in ledger.. lol

Hi Bonnie, I visit your blog daily and tuned in last night and worked on a Jinny Beyer project that I bought years ago. It is great that you open up your home to everyone to stitch with you...kind of like a retreat...could you picture how big of a room we would need if we were all in the same space. I live in Charlotte, NC and I am a full time pharmacist. Running and quilting are my therapy to stay off of drugs. Just competed in my 20th marathon in Chicago in Oct. I hope you can get your hip remedied soon...I know how much not running can play with me and exercise is so important to our health. I love your blog and just maybe I will try to join in on the mystery this go round..You have a great job...it is so cool to see where you get to travel and I love that you share and blog soo often...We are around the same age so I can so relate to you...keep up the great work..

The pattern was in Quiltmaker Nov 2011 and is probably up in the FREE patterns section of Quiltville.
The Nov 2011 Quiltmaker issue is no longer available. I tried to buy one off the web, and if it's in the free patterns of Quiltville, I couldn't find it. Thanks for responding though. Linda
I missed it, but am looking forward to the next one! Work is done for the week and I have lots of sewing to do!
