Bonnie, I have problems with cramping toes, so I turned the foot pedal of my FW around so I can press the button with my heel, and it works great for me. I have also used my left foot, but the heel works great for me. This is my first time joining this fun!!
What technique do you use for binding the zig zag border? I tried one method of clipping seams and then pulling the fabric as straight as possible which is supposed to give me the "corner" turn but that isn't working so well so I am having to take the binding off and starting over.
Hi Bonnie, I'm working on the zigzag border for Midnight Flight, wish I had watched quilt cam first. Pressing the uphills and downhills would have nested better. Oh well next time !

If she made her quilt by hand - maybe she worked on the border blocks in between the scrappy blocks - to break up the monotony of the border blocks and to break up the "insanity" of the other ones - you know - switching back and forth - I would probably do it that way - ;))

Bonnie, your phone charger, camera cord and laptop should have converters built in, as I discovered when I went to Italy. All of my cords were good for 110-240V, and the only thing I needed was the adaptor for the actual plug. Most convertors have the plug adapter separate, so you can use them like that. Have a great trip!
You do not need a converter for your apple laptop. The power supply supports both 110v and 220v. All you need is a prong adapter
I know that Quilt Cam won't be in Bali but do you think it will go on the road with you?

Never a crowd lover, there aren't many people I am willing to go see if it involves crowds or lots of unknown people. Jim Brickman and you were both defiitely worth it - if you ever have a chance to see him, go. I'd quite happily travel to see either of you again!

Bonnie, just went through K'ville yesterday-bringing my daughter home from Jacksonville! We hit the traffic problem just into Virginia and ended up putting in for the night and got back to Indiana this evening. Dear daughter carried in new Singer (old)machine and asked where I wanted her to put my "JUNK"? They have never been appreciative of my sewing machines-but then, I have only had the kids for 6 years (adopted from Russia in 2006) My miracle family is sure a great way for me to live!

Also you might consider purchasing a new chair or adding more cushion as you might be pinching a nerve or restricting blood flow depending how your sitting and for how long I your chair

I have not been able to get to my sewing machine since the weekend as I am housebreaking my new puppy and since he is drop dead beautiful I cant seem to keep my eyes off of him. Besides at the rate he will grow he wont be small for long (St.Bernard)
I recently learned a great tip from a quilting friend that you might be interested in. Sew using your left foot on the pedal so you can use your knee lift with your right without stopping on slowing down. It really helped me improve my production. It will not work on your featherweight but will for your Bernina and Janome!! It takes a bit to get used to but it is second nature for me now. Love the webcam, keep it up it is the next best thing to being there!!

I agree, it looks like the slowest way ever to snip apart your units. I just use that thingy they have on the side of most sewing machines. Then again if you're using one of your old "classics" maybe they didn't have that invention yet.

Bonnie, do you know what ads come across the bottom of the screen--and occasionally take over the whole screen? Or is that randomly determined by Ustream? Just curious...
I missed the beginning - are your bonus triangles already sewn? How dso you get them to come out the same size - when I do them the seam is always in a different place so the bonus triangles are not equal. Any tips? thanks - Sue K

About the ads - you can x-out the small ones across the bottom. The full size ads block you totally, but the person watching can pay to upgrade so they won't get ads.

So glad you are doing the QuiltCam. I'm using Firefox as my browser and haven't noticed an ad. I've noticed sometimes a delay or a little glitch, but never saw an ad and I'm not watching in full screen mode.
A Roku is a box that attaches to your tv like Apple tv or google tv. I can watch netflix, Hulu and pandora, and other premium and free channels. There are great old movie channels etc. I added Ustream which means no ads. and I can watch you on my tv.

I worked as an baggage and gate agent for a major (big jets) airlines for 20 years. The best case that I saw was for a frequent traveler that had a powered wheelchair. They had taken a hard sided suit case and lined it with the black foam (like they make cushions or line gun cases with) and cut form fitted cubbies for the machine parts that were so fragile. They make carry on sized firm suitcases, you could do this for your carry-on just in case you do have to gate check your suit case. Even if the gorilla that we have working down stairs loading luggage misses your bag things do shift and it is always that fragile bag on the bottom, Muphy's Law. I would think that the green outdoor cushion foam would work well for your suit case.
You got it Bonnie! Of course we may run into a lot of naked quilters because their luggage got lost because they checked them while they brought their sewing machines with them as a carry on!
i think you might have to customize your machine packing system but it should be easy enough. think two large heavy plastic bags, one on each side of machine in the box you are taking it in, then fill with insta foam type product. would form exactly to your machine in two halves because it is in two bags. might have to play with it a bit to get the idea right. just a thought...

I Wonder whether the featherweight could fit in a travel camera suitcase. I have an aluminum case with reinforced corners that is filled with pre-cut foam (like little fingers) you just pull out the foam bit to make a snug form that cradles your camera and lenses. I has a good lock and you can literally stand on them as are super sturdy.
The only ads I am getting are for FABRIC!! so I really don't mind, although they're kinda loud, in which I just push mute. . so as not to wake up my snoring hubby. ;c)
It's not that I mind seeing the ads, it's the fact that I miss pieces of your transmission when they are on. Just an FYI! But I am really enjoying our time together...all hundreds of us! Happy Sewing!

I am working on a bucket list quilt called Hawaii Sunset-1845 that Jo over at Jo's Country Junction blog got me going on. (One step at a time) Honestly it is not a quilt I would EVER have attempted if I hadn't discovered I can make amazing quilts one step at a time from you and your mysteries! The only one I haven't done so far is Tobacco Road and it is on my list! Go Packers! SMILE!

I used to have to pack Air Force engine parts. We had a way of creating a preformed image of the part and as we packed the part in the box we just inserted the Pre made form inserts. They took a part and covered it with heavy plastic then filled it with foam and then removed the form and cut it into 4 pieces for insertion in a box. How about seeing if UPS or Fed Ex could make you a custom box with a custom foam insert.

Thanks so much Bonnie, that was so much fun to see you sewing away in your sewing room. I've been trimming up some pieced units started a year or more ago that were just sitting around, your live cam was for me the perfect way to distract me from how boring a job was that I've been putting off doing for far too long!
Oh and so as people know, I'm using Firefox and have flipped between full screen and small screen, on desktop. Makes no difference, I'm gettings ads, but like you say it pays for the live cam. I happened to come across your message about live cam about 10:00 p.m. when I was preparing to go to bed. Instead I joined you and continued to cut fabric while being entertained by you. Thanks for the company. I had accomplished more having another passionate quilter that encouraged me to keep keeping on! It was good to hear you talk and hear your voice. What a neat idea having live cam. I was one who has the advertising interruptions - Oakley products surrounding the Olympics. It is interesting that some had advertising, some didn't and yet some had different products being advertised. Just a tidbit to share - I understand the need to keep costs down. Again, thanks for sharing yourself.
