Did I, Or Didn’t I?

I walked past this lovely “Bel Air” two-toned 301 Beauty 3 days in a row .

I kept thinking someone was going to snatch her up --- but no one did!

Isn’t she purty????

And ---

Well ---

Yes, I did!

I knew you would! You are going to love her! I inherited mine and love using it to piece. When I found out I could lower the feed dogs I even did some free motion quilting!

Wow, that is the one! I almost purchased that machine on Friday while at the show but I was on a bus trip and was worried about how I'd get her home and if she would fit in my 15-91 sewing cabinet. I'm so glad you bought the machine because I know she now has a good home, will be much loved and well used! Congrats. What is her name?

I knew you couldn't leave her there!!! Way to go!

Bonnie--the official Singer designation for the 2-tone machine was LBOW (pronounced "elbow"). It stands for Light Brown &Oyster White. I learned this on the Vintage Singer Yahoo list.

I don't know if it was reading about your older Singer machines or a quilting forum that I go to, but I kept reading about how the 301 was a real workhorse. I decided that I needed one. I kept an eye out on eBay and bought one. I love it. Glad you gave this beauty a new home.

What makes the machine a 301 or a 401? I have one that looks much like this (currently at my daughter's house) I would have bought it around 1962 or 1963.

Good for you! I always wonder how much weight Shamu gains with each trip- and I do not mean YOU!
What vintage or antique machine do you dream of finding? Of acquiring? BTW- how is the repair/replacement of your flames 221 going?

301 is a straight stitch only machine, the 401 is a zig zag machine with built in stitches and cams to do more decorative stitches. I have both and they are both great machines
