I love taking back roads!
I wound around roads I hadn't been on before and found myself in South Boston--Virginia.
I walked the sweet old town streets, window shopped, stopped and chatted to shop owners. I love exploring this way!
On my way back to my car there was a little grassy park area with some modern artsy looking sculpture--
Imagine my surprise as I got closer to discover that it was actually completely made from old antique treadle bases!
If I didn't know better I would have sworn they put them there just for me ;-)
And no, this did NOT come home with me! LOL!

Wow! That's all I can say... just Wow!!!
Teresa said what I was going to say... Wow!
How neat! What a nice surprise.
didn't go home with you...only because you didn't have an appropriate blowtorch with you? ;)
It must have been put there for you to see. That is why you stopped in that place at that time. How lucky for you to see this and take a photo of it....

One has to just love it. Thanks for sharing!
Huh, yay you! What a lovely surprise
Huh, yay you! What a lovely surprise
Cool metal art. I could go for something like that. However, my hubby would rather make it than take it home. LOL
WOW!! How cool is that!
You couldn't have picked a more fun place to stop if you had tried!
I love tseeing the countryside through your travels.
I have seen so many cool things done with those old singer bases.....but this one is really cool.......I'd love to have that in my garden with roses growing through it. It really is beautiful.
My "fortune" from my last Chinese take out was " Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it."
Remember when Charles Kuralt use to do the "on the road" series.....your travel pictures remind me of that show :0)
Happy sewing and safe travels
Just what you needed after all the driving in the rain. Neat! Suzanne from Maine
Really cool thing to do ! How creative.i need them in my yard
I would love to find just an old treadle machine that I could use :O)
Oh wow! At first I was thinking, what in the world is that, it is so ugly! Yet, when you backed up and took a pic of the whole thing, very cool :-) Thanks for sharing!
Way cool!! I love traveling with you.
I LOVE it!! There are such wonderfully creative things everywhere!!
Too big for Shamu?
So wonderful and so sad. A lot of treadles had to die to make that sculpture. But then again better than discarded.
That is COOL !
wow! you find the neatest things!
I found mine on Craigslist. I always see them there. I want something to sew with just in case the electricity goes out.
Awesome, and how fortunate that you got to drive through that little town to see it. I would love to see it with just enough roses to enhance but not hide the sculpture.
Wonder what it's called, maybe "Ode to Singer"... lol!
Awesome! I love it!

Serendipity! : )
Awesome tower. It's always interesting to see what others make from things like that. Thanks for showing us.
I actually have a treadle that was my Mom's. She cleaned it all up, sprayed it a nice black and flipped it upside down then had a very thick and VERY heavy piece of marble cut to fit into that which she used as a table in front of our living room sofa for years. After she died, I got that table and sadly don't have room in my living room for it so it's in my back storage room. I cannot bring myself to get rid of it though because it reminds me of her and I'd be afraid if I did that someone might throw the bottom away and use the marble.
I sewed on my grandmother treadle machine as a teenager. Love having this history preserved in this way with all the good feelings it gives me. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your discoveries.
