A couple quilt shops are a bit happier with their daily totals and even got a glimpse at a place that sells refurbished vintage machines!
This is the same kenmore that DH gifted me with our first Christmas together :-)

You've got to be kidding....that is the Kenmore my Mom got me for a wedding present (back in 1979)!! The tension was always off on it. Wish I had one like it again!
Okay...I gotta ask...what is the price on it??
Hey girlie, That Kenmore (made by Janome) was my 1st sewing machine too. I was engaged and married young and my mom told me to spend the money on the best sewing machine, as opposed to a bigger diamond in my engagement ring. That was amongest the best advise I've ever been given. Marriage was a diaster, but the sewing machine was a constant companion for 35 years. And when I upgraded last year with the Janome Horizon, I couldn't bear to give up the machine. It will literally sew thru anything.... and is still my 1st love. :)
This is too funny, My late Husband gave me the SAME machine for Our first Christmas together 27 years ago! as a matter of fact one of my Christmas Lights quilts was done on that Machine, and Cotton Boll too! Love RI, don't forget to have the choder! Have fun the New England!
That machine and my Mom's 201 are always in or underway on something! And think about it,,,,you don't have to worry about over heating the motherboard if you are working too hard! Yes give me the Old reliable s<3

I have that Kenmore too. Her name is Peggy because my quilting friend Peggy gifted her to me when I moved from CA to TN. The machine had been a gift from her husband many years before. I use it to quilt after I piece on my Featherweight. My repairman said it's a sturdy machine and to hang onto it and I could sew anything I want to on it.

That's my machine, too. It was a big purchase by my husband and me the first year we were married! The only criteria back then was that it had to sew through enough layers of denim to hem jeans! Even though I graduated to a Bernina 10 years ago, I still keep 'old faithful' and loan her out to learners. Love how so many of these stories connect.
That's my machine! Technically it's in my daughter's possession right now but she never uses it so I guess it's still mine. Do you still have yours? It's a great machine and I have a feeling it will outlast my current computerized machine with its plastic parts.

Yikes,I have that machine also. She is my 'if everything else fails' machine. She is usually covered and at rest,but she does see the light of day once in awhile.

Adding to my previous comment. Looks like there are a lot of us out there. And my machine was also a gift from my husband. Back then I sewed almost all the clothes for my daughter's and myself so it got lots of use.

I received that machine for my 16th birthday (1974). Made a TON of clothes on it. Sometime after I got married I got a different machine taht turned out to be a piece of junk. Don't remember what happened to the Kenmore, maybe sold it at a garage sale.
OMG! That was the first machine I bought with my first paycheck! Wish I still had it too :D

I have that machine! I bought it brand new when i got pregnant so i could be a good mom and make baby clothes...(that didnt last long)
I have a couple machines now that cost way more than my Kenmore but NONE do a better satin stitch than my trusty Kenmore. And IT WEIGHS A TON!

I have one of these machines that is all original. Didn't know I was sitting on a gold mine. Guess she will have to stay with the others. She has sewn most everything.
I have two of those machines and Love them. They are real work horses and I won't trade them for a new fancy electronic machine for nothing :)
Me too! that Kenmore was a birthday gift from my husband way back when he was working at Sears. It still goes strong, above all others my favorite.

I had (have) that exact machine, too! We were very close for very many years. I even made my wedding dress on it.
I too have that machine. It was my 2nd Kenmore after we got married. I have done everything from heirloom double needle work to men's suits to upholstery on that machine and it is still going strong. I mostly keep it by the longarm for repairing customer's quilts, but when I need to do work with invisible thread or perfect buttonholes, it is my go-to machine. The ability to release the pressure on the presser foot is great. My first Kenmore went to my daughter, who gave it to her friend, who gave it to.... These machines just do not die.
That is the same machine I got at a garage sale a few years back. I use it a lot to do piecing with as the stitch is nice and I can leave it set up in my storage building/ sewing room.
Like most everyone else, that machine was a gift from my husband for our anniversary (can't remember which one). With 2 small boys at that time I need something that would sew through lots of denim. Still have the Kenmore (have added a Jenome and a 1936 Singer) and use it often. I am clurious too as to what price was on it.
I don't remember how many women I taught to use that machine! That was back when Sears was a powerhouse for sewing machines. I would love to look at the model number (thinking it would be the 158.1430) if it is the first free arm they made. I have its big sister the 19412 that I put into lay away in 1979. The head finally ran out of warrenty but it is still my "bestest" friend machine. (I worked for Sears back then and taught new owners how to use their machines. Have had a long love affair with Kenmore sewing machines.)
