I had a great day today! Busy busy busy, and it took much longer than I thought it would ,but I decided that running all my errands today, instead of doing half today and half on my way out of town tomorrow was preferable!
My packing for the cruise has commenced! I am SO excited about the “little black dress” that I bought in Minnesota while thrift shopping with mom, Auntie Joy and Cousin Janean --- I NEVER dress up! Well hardly ever any more. I was trying to think of the last time that I actually wore HEELS – and I can’t. Do I need to practice with them? Are my feet going to rebel?
Do women even WEAR pantyhose anymore?! I’m opting for some strappy black sandals to go with the dress and calling it good, even if I’m not very tan…
I’ve pulled out the fresh water pearl set that DH gave me many years ago for Christmas. Gosh, I think I’ve only worn those a couple of times….I’m just a shorts and tee shirt girl! And that’s what I’ll be for most of the cruise. If we are running around in class…what’s to dress fancy for? It’s all about comfort, right?
But there is ONE fancy night. And I’m going all out! Just wait til you see this dress!
So today….I did a “Pamper Me” ! Time for my Cruise Toes!
Aren’t these fun?! I think pedicures are my biggest pamper delight. And since I’ve been getting them…no ingrown toe nails! So..I’m calling it a medical necessity ;c)
So with all this planning to dress up coming into play…..where does this free book pre order come in??
For a limited time, the first book in New York Times bestselling author Anna Godbersen’s epic new series Bright Young Things is available as a free pre-order today from the Amazon Kindle store---which means if you place your pre-order today, Amazon will deliver it to your Kindle (for free) on its release date of September 6. It also includes an excerpt from the forthcoming sequel Beautiful Days and fashion tips on how to achieve the perfect flapper look.
((Not that I am dressing like a flapper….but wouldn’t that have been fun in the day?!))
The year is 1929. New York is ruled by the Bright Young Things: flappers and socialites seeking thrills and chasing dreams in the anything-goes era of the Roaring Twenties.
Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey escaped their small Midwestern town for New York's glittering metropolis. All Letty wants is to see her name in lights, but she quickly discovers Manhattan is filled with pretty girls who will do anything to be a star. . . .
Cordelia is searching for the father she's never known, a man as infamous for his wild parties as he is for his shadowy schemes. Overnight, she enters a world more thrilling and glamorous than she ever could have imagined—and more dangerous. It's a life anyone would kill for . . . and someone will.
The only person Cordelia can trust is ¬Astrid Donal, a flapper who seems to have it all: money, looks, and the love of Cordelia's brother, Charlie. But Astrid's perfect veneer hides a score of family secrets.
Across the vast lawns of Long Island, in the ¬illicit speakeasies of Manhattan, and on the blindingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girls' fortunes will rise and fall—together and apart. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Luxe comes an epic new series set in the dizzying last summer of the Jazz Age.
I’m not sure how long the free pre-order will be available, but double check to be it’s still free when you purchase it.
And with that..I’m off to finish packing!
Where is my PASSPORT?!?

You are going to have alot of fun on this cruise!!!
I am not sure about fresh water pearls, but peals actually kept better when worn!! Ladies from way back when, would actually have their help (maids!!) wear the pearls all day before an event, because wearing them, kept them fresher and shiny!! The oils from our skin keeps the peals - were is the word??!! - keeps them from drying out!! They are better worn then not, so wear them the whole time you are there!! (the maids would wear them under their clothes so no one could/would see them!!!)
Enjoy the time at sea!! DO NOT GET SEA SICK!!!!
Have a good time and if you do it again next year, I just might join you!!!
Enjoy the cruise...I'm sure the little black dress will be great. And you are right - no one wears pantyhose anymore! I've learned to swear by the fake tan for the legs!
Bonnie, I've always enjoyed your quilts, and now I am also enjoying your Kindle freebies recommendations. How do you find these pre-releases and promotional freebies? When I go into Amazon's Kindle store I get too many choices, and can't narrow it down. Do you know some magic? I am at julie.saville@gmail.com. Any advice would be appreciated :)
