Book Description
War correspondent Jennie King thinks she’s just a temporary guest in her grandmother’s Amish community while she recuperates from the devastating injuries sustained in a car bomb attack that changed her world. It was SUCH a great weekend to stay in and sew, and I got so SEW so much done! After Half Time ((Which I must say was the worst half time show I have ever seen---Or that must just mean that I am “officially” old now?)) I finished the quilting on the Little Monkey Quilt! Oh oh oh, it turned out so cute!
And yes, I can see why so many people LIKE making small quilts. Instant gratification, and the ability to try many different patterns and variations in layouts and colors and….quick fix! I don’t think this will cure my love of BIG quilts, but it was sure fun to throw this together and have it done in a day. All that remains now is the binding.
I took pictures of the different quadrants so you can check out the fun mis-matched fabrics in each block! You can click the slide show to view them closer. I went as silly as I could while making these. They are fun to look at! For instance we have things like recycled plaids sewn next to batiks…novelties sewn to civil wars, etc. It was all about COLOR and DIFFERENCE. Hopefully it will be fun for the baby to look at ((And wonder about her crazy Auntie Bonnie)) as she grows.
And yes, I stuck with the name that was on that cute fabric! The first Monkey Fabric that I tried for sashings, but rejected. I could use that for a label, right? It’s just too cute!
I make baby quilts BIG too. This one is about 50” square, which will be great for floor play time, and for snuggling under even up to 7 or 8 years old and beyond.
So what’s in store for the binding? About as far away from mint green as I can get! LOL! ORANGE of course! If I have learned one thing ((Or learned it more than once)) Is that Auntie Bonnie needs to follow her own muse and do what the quilt needs. It just NEEDS Orange, don’t you think?

It’s another full day in Quiltville. I’m actually running errands this morning, and meeting up with my friend Jen for lunch, and then back at it again here at home.
Tomorrow? Dentist. ((oh fun! I’ve got a molar that is zinging me and needs to be seen to!))
Wednesday? Lisa is coming to SEW! WHooot! ((I guess this means I need to put all this fabric away so there is room for her and Shelby-Girl))
And that is as far as I am thinking for this week!

I have to admit, I was a little concerned about how this baby quilt was going to turn out, when I was viewing your various "trys" --- hurray! ---you made perfect choices. The border fabric is wonderful with all the variety in the blocks and, yes, orange!!! Love it!
How do you manage to wake up so cheerful? I need lessons, lol! I suppose looking at that happy baby quilt could be part of the reason. Yes, it is just begging for that orange binding. I just love making baby quilts, they definitely are instant gratification! When I don't have anyone specific to make them for, I donate to Project Linus.
Love love love it! thanks for sharing the process with us, I learned so much. What a difference the sashing choice made. It really goes to show, that in the end the quilt makes the decisions.....if you are listening that is. And a good thing you were....as cute as that monkey fabric is, it just wasn't right for this quilt.

What a wonderful Bonnie quilt - only the best and of course orange works like no other color.
My question is this - of all of us that actually sat and watched the half-time show, were we really hoping it was going to get better? or was it so off the mark that we were dumb founded? Half-time shows are certainly not what they use to be and I really do not think age has anything to do with it. I could have kicked myself for having taken the time to see it. I could have been somewhere else doing something I love. I did, however, enjoy some of the commercials and find that weird.

I think the orange is perfect. I like the fact that the quilt is bigger than a normal baby quilt so that they can continue to use it.
I love the orange for binding, it will compliment the colors in the quilt! Baby quilts should be colorful and interesting to stimulate the baby and this on is perfect!

It's been so much fun watching your creative process on this quilt. And thank you for the slide show with the close up views of all the different fabrics in those blocks. That's one of the things I love about your books. For each quilt there has always been at least one close up shot that allows us to see the variety of prints and also your quilting. That has really helped me to loosen up my fabric choices. For example, actually getting to see, up close and personal, the many very different neutrals you use.

I agree, Bonnie, that halftime show was dreadful, and Christina muffed the national anthem, even! ... and as a Steeler fan, I'm in mourning... but thanks for that cheerful little quilt! the orange is a perfect binding 8-)
What service do you use to find free Kindle books? I use Ereader.com, but don't remember seeing this book. Of course I "ordered" it immediately!! Through ereader, I've gotten hooked on the whole "Amish genre" of books out there.

Bonnie, I hated the half time show, too! I was with a room full of people who all graduated the same year ('78) and only the ones with teenagers even recognized the songs (other than Sweet Child of Mine, which created quite a discussion as none of us could remember who originally sang that song until we Googled it). I guess I'm getting pretty old, too. I didn't even care for the visual part of the halftime show -- too much black/white/metalic for my taste.

I love the orange for the binding! I too, make my baby quilts large...in fact my niece is still using her baby quilt I made her 21 years ago as a lap quilt.

And you have just enough orange in a few of the blocks and the border fabric for the binding to give the quilt "zing!" without being overwhelming. That's one lucky kid!

I just did that block in civil war fabrics,(lap) and loved it, and just cut one up for a queen. now I really like the baby one, (and I need one of those too) so maybe will do another.....Thanks for the inspiration, and how you worked it out. Sometimes it is really hard to figure out "why" you dont like something...

I love the orange binding, and the whole quilt is just wonderful! Now I need to add scrappy monkey wrench blocks to my to-do list.
I agree with you on the half-time show, and my teenager wasn't impressed either, so I don't think it is an age thing! The dancers were pretty good, but that's about all. The whole state of Wisconsin is on cloud nine today, though! Packers fans are the most over-the-top fans I've ever seen!

Bonnie, I adore this little quilt. When my son was born our vet said he looked like a little monkey. She meant it in the kindest way...and he did. He was fine featured and had the blackest eyes. When he was older the neighbors kids called him monkey boy because he was so good at climbing trees (taught by his expert mom). I can't wait for my desktop computer to be up and running again so I can download your latest tutorial and the nifty chart too! Thanks so much

I have an iPad (b-day present from MR) and I am so inept with this new technology...but because of your post I was forced to learn something new today ;~) !!! I downloaded the app and the book.
