Sew Day Snow Day!!!

This is nothing for those of you in Northern Climes, but to be dumped on in January even worse than we were dumped on in December...IN THE SOUTH...it's quite the thing. It's all anyone has been able to talk about! Last night on the TV scrolling at the bottom all night long are all the CHURCH closings for Sunday....being closed ahead of time on Friday night!

We don't have the equipment necessary to make transportation safe, not for plowing every street, or even major thoroughfares. The only thing I saw anyone doing was spraying the road ways 2 days ahead of time with salt brine. So 2 days after it's been spread, it's been driven on and probably scattered and pretty much non existent by the time the snow actually arrives!

It started last night around 5pm....fine icy crystals...and it snowed all night...it's still coming down, we've got over 6".

We parked our cars up on the road at the TOP of the driveway knowing that we'd never get out if we left them parked down here at the house. I've got a steep winding driveway and no real running room for gaining speed and/or traction. You'd end up in the bushes or the trees!

I took a couple pics of the dogs with my phone this morning. Buddy loves it...Sadie hates it!!

Look at the BBQ!! I can barely see the top of the "put out the fire" water bottle there on the left hand side!! *LOL* If anyone braves it outside, I'll send them to get pics of the front of the house. As it is, I took pics from the doorway and the front porch only. I'm NOT going out!
As for me...I'm staying in. It's an official "sweats wearing sew all day" Day! Good thing I have my basement, because DH swears its an ESPN sports all day TV watching, Internet poker playing day. :cÞ

I've blown through this quilting space like a hurricane pulling fabrics for a pieced border...cutting 1/2 square triangle pairs, and left quite a pile on the table. I'm going to spend a bit of time straightening in here, and then I'm going to sew sew sew and sew some more!

Snow/Sew for me in Bonn today as well. Hand-quilting accompanied by Series 3 of 'The Wire'; odd combination, really... Have fun!

Those are the best kind of days! You CAN'T get out, so there's no guilt, the iron makes the room nice and warm, and you can indulge in your favorite background music/tv! Enjoy it!

Snow-Sew day for me as well in Statesville. Just finished a quilt top recently, so I plan to start cutting the next one today. Have fun sewing everybody and stay safe.

Enjoy the snow and have fun sewing!
In the Netherlands all the snow was gone because of the rain of the last few days. This morning I opened the curtains and surprise!! the world outside was all white again. So, after a walk in the snow and sun, I'm also sewing. Very nice to see that we expierence the same thing so far apart from eachother. Have a nice weekend!

I'm debating on heading out and building a snowman, but my fleece blankie, netbook, and quilt magazines are telling me to stay in!

The RV is toasty warm, cozy and wonderful.

This storm has been a big, bad one (although not the worst we've had). I live along I-40 in New Mexico. I've missed two days of work (60 miles away), and there have been repeated multiple closings of the Interstate. I hope you and all your readers stay warm and safe.

eek, I'm glad you don't have to go anywhere! I'm playing hooky today and sewing, rather than tackling the disaster that is my house.

Yes, that is one good thing about being snowed in...as long as you have electricity you can have a nice pajama day and sew to your hearts content! Have fun!

We had the same stuff fall on us in central Arkansas... pretty rare here too! I'm with you, stay in and sew!

We didn't get the snow...just cold rain but I think I may do a "sympathy snow day" and stay in and sew too!

Sounds like a great plan. We haven't had any snow days here in the NW. I guess we got them all last year. Have fun sewing!

Lucky you! I had a snow day this week too, lots of fun! Enjoy <3

Sounds like a great day. In fact, that is what I did all day yesterday. No school so I started sewing at 8 a.m. and kept it up until 9 pm. In Arkansas, the weather seems to be about 12 hours in front of you. Snow stopped around 9 or 10 last night.

Lots of pretty snow!! At least yours seems to stay where it falls. Here in Nebraska we always get the high winds with it that piles it up in huge drifts. I LOVE snow days...enjoy yours to the hilt.

I came to Knoxville to visit my husband (he's working here) and I had planned on leaving on Monday, but have decided to stay until Thursday or Friday. I brought my laptop and my sewing machuine, and you are absolutely right, it is a wonderful "snow sew" day!!!! I am working on a basketweave quilt, and am using scraps from those to make crumb blocks as I go!!
Have a great day sewing!!

No new snow here (NW Wisconsin) but it's bitter cold; another good excuse for staying inside and spending the day in my sewing room! And for that, I love Winter!

Hope you have a very productive weekend!

Pretty snow, the same weather system gave us freezing rain. Remember those freezing rain storms in Texas, Bonnie! Looks so pretty at your house, enjoy your sewing time, I think you don't get quite enough time to sew these days!

Oh, I forgot to say I listened to your radio program with Pat as I was making patient rounds, very quietly, in my pocket radio...I loved it! It was to fun to have a few quiltey words to brighten my day.

Sewing through the snow here in Virginia as well. I did stop to listen to my husband's basketball game (he's a college bball coach) on the internet, but even then, I was doing some handquilting. I still haven't made it out of the sweats I threw on when I stumbled out of bed. What a wonderful day! Enjoy the rest of yours. I imagine Sunday will be more of the same...aaahhh!

Great photos. Hard to believe it is NC! Hope it wasn't heavy enough to damage trees and shrubs. When we had that much snow in Georgia last year, I spent the day cringing at the cracking of branches falling. We did get a lot of chipped mulch for the flower beds though!

Yep. Raleigh too. There's just too much ice out there to risk going out. And it's COLD! I should be sewing, shouldn't I. :-)

Not as much snow as you've got, but a hoar frost and it is brrrrrr freezing cold!

1st of Feb tomorrow. I wonder if that will bring about a change in the weather. We need sun and warmth!

When its start to melt be careful of the ice under the snow. Stay warm!. It looks like home to me! :-)

It's so pretty Bonnie. We've hardly had any snow this winter:(
Stay warm and have fun sewing!

We got some too last night! Hope we get more! We need it to fill the resevours.... better this now than no water later!
Hope you have fun! Enjoy your sewing time! Now hmmmm, hope that you have a widow scraper in the car! You will need it to get anywhere!

It is a bit like that here too. We haven't had so much snow for years. They keep joking that "Kopenhagen" has had its immediate effect ;-0.
I bet you and DH have both enjoyed your stay in day!

Bonnie the snow is so pretty. I love it. I hope you had a good snow day in your basement. That's where I spent mine yesterday.

Sorry about your weather. We are having the warmest January (now Feb) on record. Yikes. Today it is just over 50 (at noon).

Thank you - Leaders and Enders arrived on my front porch today. My basket of little sewn-together squares isn't quite large enough yet - but soon!

Good wishes
Marne
