Yep, it's BROKEN!!!
I'm off to Best Buy. I need Geek Squad Help. (GSH) Sometime yesterday, I went to go check my mail. The computer was already ON from checking earlier in the day. You know how it goes into sleep mode in between times? It would NOT come OUT of sleep mode. I hit the button, it just blinked..I wiggled the mouse, it just blinked..nothing would wake the comatose thing up!
I held the button down, powered off, powered back on..and it wouldn't boot...so..*sniffles* Either something has taken over and gotten past the anti-virus, fire-wall, anti spam, anti-phishing, anti-spyware stuff...or some vital part of my computer has given up the ghost and passed into another realm.
I have laptop, so I'm okay for quicky stuff, but I really like a desktop (with a big ole huge monitor) for doing design work, etc. I planned on doing a lot of that this week since I don't have to leave home again until June 5th!
Puter is in the car....and either they'll be able to fix it, or I'll buy another one....it seems a computer just doesn't last longer than 4 years around here. Bummer.
PS...I am back from Best Buy. I went from Best Buy to Sam's Club and back....and the Best Buy WAS at Best Buy. (This is sounding reduntant!!) Turns out that my mother board went up in smoke...it was going to cost around $200 for the new board, plus about the same for the installation....not worth fixing it at this point.
They had a floor model on sale..monitor not included (good because I didn't want to pay for another one because I don't NEED another one) and it has more space and is much faster than my old one. So I'm sorted. I just have to go back and pick it up after the Geek Squad has removed the demo software from it. I'm a happy camper. Really, I did look at macs..but just can't justify the $1800+ for it when All I needed was to spend $450. Maybe some day. I know people who have macs love them....but then so do people who drive BMWs. I'm just not in that category in being able to justify the price :c)

So sorry and I do understand. I have had to do that and then comes the fun of reinstalling. I think that's the part I hate the most. I know you have your "stuff" backed up so it is only time, a most precious comodity, that you will have to lose. LOL
Aaaaackkkkkk! I know what a crazy maker this is....luckily you have a laptop so you aren't totally cut off from cyberspace. I hope they can repair it and spare you the expense of a new computer. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Have you considered an Apple computer? They are the best. We've had ours for 2 years and NO problems at all. My DH ran the diagnostic and only 1 byte was out of place after 2 years!!!!! I can't recommend it too much.
hope they can fix it soon!!
Bonnie, I know the feeling. I don't know what kind you are looking for but look at Dell online. I bought mine that way twice and recently my dtr bought one in Best Buy. She haden't opened it yet so I went online and saved her 180.00 AND GOT HER MORE THAT THE ONE FROM THE STORE.If you qualify they have no interest for a year. Try them, you have nothing to lose
Best wishes for a speedy recovery or replacement.
have you thought of just attaching your nice big monitor as an external monitor to your laptop? I know mine lets me do that and I just lay the laptop screen down and type away...
Hey Bonnie,
My Dell use to do that a lot! It doesn't do it so much anymore. I always got some beeps when I first powered back on telling me it was failing some kind of power-up test. I quickly learned to immediately hit the power button again if it made any beeps it shouldn't, wait a little while (seconds) and try again. Some times it would take 4 or 5 tries, but always eventually came on with out failing and making the beeping noises. My problem is the video card. It occasionally fails now and I just power off and back on. Maybe this will help you and save a trip to the GSH. It is an inconvenience, and sometimes makes my heart skip a beat or two, but that's the price for a honkin' big gamer video card. Hope this is helpful. :c)
blessings...to you and your computer,
debbiem
Does your post (with the comic) mean your house is clean? LOL!
Lucy (in IN)
Amen to that! Nothing last like it use to. Take care! Sorry you want be at NC Symposium.
"It's a conspiracy I tell ya!" =-)
Sorry, and good luck with getting a new one.
Let us know either what is wrong or what you get for new computer. I'm in the market myself.
I'm waiting for this one to go to pc junkyard. So sorry. Glad you have another one.
Bonnie, I have a Gateway and it started doing the same thing. Now when it goes berserk like that I unplug it from the computer, carry the monitor and plug it into a new electrical outlet. Once I replug it into the computer it works fine. I do this about every 4-6 months. Good luck and if The Geek Squad has advice short of a new monitor, please share with the rest of us!
Bonnie, I think your computer obviously took an overdose of sleeping tablets.......
oh geeze, if it's not one thing it's another... hope you're fixed up and designing soonest.
Hi Bonnie,
Yep... I can relate. Ours gave it up a couple weeks before Mother's Day. But... we have a geek squad member as a family member. He had my DH take it to his house and moved everything onto his comp. and cleaned ours out... (I'm so technical) and then DH had to reload all our goodies back onto it. But it will last a bit longer before it's time to bury this one!
I'm with you... a Mac is tad too expensive for me. Although our son offered to sell us his desk top Mac... we shall see.
Nice to know that you are soon up and running again. We don't even have a back up!
So I go into limbo... when this goes down!
Have a nice travel break.
