Nifty Thrifty's Quilting is Done!
I had three goals to meet today. I needed to get my NC driver's license..Yes, the SS# card arrived in the mail while I was gone last week....and I had some bank/tax stuff that HAD to be done today. I got those errands done, and spent the rest of the day quilting on Nifty Thrifty!
I love how it turned out. I was going to do a panto on it to call it done....a lot of heavy quilting just doesn't suit utility quilts like I am striving for,but this just begged for more. And it shows up, quite well in spite of what I was thinking!
There is an interesting story to the back. In SC I had Merry Maids come every 2 weeks to help me keep on top of things while I was doing massage full time and quilting on the side. Oh how I miss them! *LOL* My two little Hispanic house cleaners loved my quilts, always curious to see what was on the machine. One lady didn't speak much english. One day she came with two huge trash bags of FABRIC for me to use. SHE was decluttering...and I was the recipient!
There were two pieces of madras plaid in the bags. I don't know the age, I just know that they feel terrific and they are cotton. I used them both up in the back of this quilt. Fabric gifts come from surprising places!
It's midnight. I'm off to bed. Orange Crush step #2 is CLOSE to being ready to upload..I just need a couple more hours, but my eyes are too blurry to continue on...*yawn*

I just love your new quilt!! So beautiful! I so wish I had a maid, then I could quilt more...when I worked full-time I did have a lady that came once a week to clean for me, but since I am now a housewife, somehow I don't think I could get hubby to agree to it now. :)

Absolutely beautiful. The quilting is wonderful. A++++ on this one. I learn so much from you. I am actually getting to the point where I believe there is no such thing as quilt police.
Oh Bonnie, the quilting is *PERFECT*!! Your blocks almost look as if they have rounded corners. I hope you are able to carve some time our for youself soon to just sit and relax. You've earned it!! --jessica
According to Eileen Trestain, the certified quilt appraiser and historian who is teaching the classes I'm taking, madras plaids have been around since the later 1700's!!!!!! A quilt made from only madras plaids is impossible to date for that reason.
What a pretty quilt Bonnie. I'm amazed you managed to do any work at all after your trip. You must be exhausted. I'm sure we can all be patient.
The quilting is beautiful - really sparkles on those blocks. don't overdo it. sleeeep and relax after your busy week.
I love the quilting - it suits the design beautifully!

Great story about where the plaid came from...but oh my goodness! That quilting is amazing! I would never have thought of that in a million years. It really makes the quilt. All bow down to the quilting master!!

I love the panto you used, it turned out great!
This is a perfect example of a well-chosen quilting design beautifully enhancing the quilt. Gorgeous.
This design really enhances the quilt. Beautiful job. Love the back too!

Glad you got some needed errands done, now you just need to rest up! I don't know how you do all you do.
What more can be said? I've never known anyone who is as talented as you are for putting odd and small pieces of fabric together and come out with a masterpiece everytime. You are an amazing woman and I want to know what brand of vitamins you take, cause some of us could sure use some, lol :c) I am anxious for that book of yours also. I've already got it on my wish list for when it it is published. My friends and family all know about your site and how I admire your work and as a result I'm likely to get a half dozen of them lol :c) Take good care of yourself, remember that the mind and body need rest and relaxation also once in a while.
(((Hugs))) Fran
Oh Bonnie - this is beautiful! and I love the quilting on it! I like it so much better than just a panto! And the plaids on the back are wonderful!
The quilting is spectacular! Awesome job :)
I just need to tell you, I love your blog, I love your 'down-to-earth' thinking and your quilting ideas and suggestions are awesome! Please don't stop, and you have almost convince me to join one of your mystery quilt projects. I always shy away from mystery quilts, BECAUSE it seems I always have the toughest time selecting fabrics -- I am not very brave with random fabric choices! THANKS AGAIN -- I check on your blog everyday!
The extra effort quilting this one really paid off - it looks wonderful.
I had Merry Maids in GA too and I've really missed them. The other day, I was here at the townhouse and saw two maids going to neighbors and ran and got their card. I think I'm going to get them to come in once a month.
Merry Maids...sigh. I so miss them.
Love the plaid on the back. Reminds me of the aweful shorts my Dad wore down the cape during the summer!
I just LOVE nifty thrifty! I love all your quilts but this one in particular is gorgeous!
