Super Bowl Bargello, Anyone??
Hi Ladies! (do we have any gents? I'm not sure!)
Next Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. It's a retreat weekend for lots of quilt lists out there. It's my LAST hurrah in this house until I move!
So here is where my brain is. Instead of sewing something new...I have to do something I'm really not interested in doing, but I can do it in fast order if anyone wants to do it with me!
On Feb 28th I'm teaching Scrappy Bargello to the East Cobb Quilters of Marietta Georgia, and I need a lap-sized demo quilt! I know this can be made in a day. I've done it before! And all the ones I've done have been given away. I have one king sized one left here at home that has been on my bed. It's worn, washed, loved, and looking TERRIBLE. I can't have that as a demo quilt!
So....Sunday, Feb 3rd, I am designating as Super Bowl Bargello Day! If you want to join me, use some time this week to gather the following:
Fabric Pre-Cutting:
For the lap quilt you will need 128 2-1/2"X16" strips in a good variety of lights, mediums and darks.
You can get several strips out of a Fat Quarter...or you can dig through your scraps and cut what you have got into usable sized pieces.
The leftovers from trimming the strips to 16" lengths can be saved for other scrap quilts...like 4 patches and 9 patches! Or you can use them in the border!
In this quilt "ANYTHING" goes! Use it up, get it out of the scrap stash!
Who's game to play?!

I probably have to work that day, but if you post it on your group/website, then I can get the instructions when I get home from work. Count me in too.
I have SO many 2-1/2" strips... what an awesome way to spend Super Bowl Sunday! I'm putting this on my calendar!!
Hi there! Two things:
1. I am sooo in~
2. You have been tagged.

I have wanted to make one like this for a long time, so count me in.
I've just gone through my stash and scraps and decided to do this one in red, white and blue. Although I will be watching the super bowl, let's go giants, I will also be sewing. Thanks Bonnie for everything and I hope you have a safe and peaceful move. Renée
Since I will be hunkering down that day (can you say ONE mile from the Univ. of Phoenix stadium..and all that TRAFFIC??? Not going there! staying HOME...)and sewing, I think I will join you. I will be working on other things, so will keep the bargello UFO that is on my design wall in the mix that day. Thanks for all the great ideas Bonnie!
I have a Scrappy Bargello top that is unquilted. Maybe I can get it basted and quilted that day. Then I can play Scrappy Bargello, too. I am not sure there is any purple in this one, though. The last one I made was all purple!
That sounds like fun! ......not that I need anything else to do! :-)
Bonnie, this sounds intriguing! If I wanted to make something bigger than lap size, would I start with longer strips, or simply more of them?
Perfect timing!I just finished one charity quilt and was wracking my brain trying to think of a second quick pattern. If you can do this one in a day, maybe I can get it done in a week! I've been pulling strips and fabrics and have 73 strips cut. I'm on my way. Thank you again for another fun and educational quilting experience. Oh, you are so close to packing day--I can't believe we are doing this!
Take care,
Linda H
I have oodles and oodles of Noodles!!! (use to host a monthy swap of 2.5" strips last year) and would LOVE to escape from Mommyhood for just one day and participate... but unfortunately we will have out of town guests that weekend so it would never work... :P
I do think you will get lots of people playing along with you and what a perfect day too - the BIG game day - husbands will be doing their thing while the quilters work together on a "Bonnie Porject" ;) it's a Win/Win!
Can't wait to see all those scrappy fabrics!!! ~bonnie in SE Texas
Sounds good to me. I have lots of fat quarters that need to be used.
I'll watch all the fun from the sidelines, I'm sure your challenge will generate lots and lots of lovely bargello quilts.
Would it be possible to make this in only 3 colors? If yes and you have time, how? I know you're moving so will understand if you don't have time to respond.
Oh...I've wanted to do one of these for the longest time!! I think that I can spend some time this weekend doing this, so count me in!!
I'm going to try also...I'll have to see if I can really do it! Pretty frightening, in my book! LOL....I've got tons of 2 1/2 strips too and I've been thinking about how to weed them down! Thanks Bonnie.
I am going to give this a try. I have just posted about reducing my stash of fabrics so the timing is perfect. We don't have the Superbowl in Australia, but the cricket is on.
Count me in as well!

Well, I will be at the Quilt Shop all day for our big Super Bolt sale but I will be in the class when you come to Marietta at the end of the month. We are really looking forward to seeing you in Georgia. Do you know you will be here during the Atlanta Shop Hop? Fun!
I have wanted to try this technique of yours forever. Will be flying in from Africa during super bowl...but will try a small one...as soon as I get caught up from jet lag. Can't wait to see the pics! Colleen ...packing in AFrica
I've wanted to try one of these for a long time. I'm off Sunday, so I'm in!
Just the ticket to use up some scraps and maybe make a dent in my FQ collection.
I'm in...I cut lots of 2-1/2 strips as I cut out my Carolina Crossroads. Sure wish I was around to help paint.
I missed your last mystery play along quilt and this one I think is very do-able for me this Sunday...I'm so in! Now to play with my stash and prepare for Game Day!!
Strips are cut and pressed and I'm ready to go!
