Life in the Bargain Basement... :cD

Sooooo...I spent yesterday playing with the amazon store, and managed to spend money buying things for myself at the same time! *LOL* I'm going to try this alpaca cotton blend batting to see how it hand quilts! There is also alpaca/wool blends..I'm game to try it anyway! I love llamas and alpacas...so cute. I wonder if DH would let me keep one as a pet? We have room at the new place! *LOL* I can see it now...If you make me SLEEP here with no furniture, I'm bringing home a LLAMA!!! :cÞ

While I was cutting strips for the Superbowl Bargello party for this Sunday, I started cutting other sizes too to play with some block ideas I had....and yes..I sewed last night until midnight and this is what I've got! This went SO FAST!

All of the little random 4 patches and geese units were SUPPOSED to be where plain 3.5" cut squares were to go, but why cut squares, when I can dig into this drawer of rejected pieced units and use them instead of the 3.5" squares?! The geese units were a partially pieced border. I took them apart into pairs...some of the geese turned direction in the border, so it left this little square in square thingy..throw that in too..make the geese turn all different directions!

Then there was the red/gold 4 patches that were a rejected cornerstone from another project. Only had 4 of those, but throw them in! A couple red/plaid hourglass blocks that were a test? Add them too!

And THEN...there were these brown gingham/solid red half square triangles that were going to be the sashings of the "swing your partner" quilt before I rejected them for a darker fabric....throw those in and turn them every which way, and voila!

Yes, my dear Scarlett, Solid red IS a neutral!

It still needs some borders, but I decided it was time for bed.

I'm having a tough time this week with my emotions saying goodbye to my favorite long time massage clients. It's ripping my heart out. You come to care for people so much when you see them every week or every couple of weeks, or even once a month over the period of 2 years.

I am blessed to have had these people in my life. I've been enriched by knowing them and learning from them. I'm going to MISS THEM!! And the other therapists I work so closely with. We've got 5 therapists in our office which will now be down to 4...what a great bunch of people.

I'm trying not to feel bummed. I know good things are coming. I also knew it was going to be hard, and so when it gets hard..Bonnie goes back to playing with her fabric and putting that machine pedal to the metal and sew sew sew!

I love that quilt, you are marvellous doing what you do with fabric and while you are about to move too. Goodbyes are hard but you will have lots of 'Hellos' to look forward to.

I'm amazed at how you get all of this done and trying to move at the same time. I love this new quilt, it's amazing how you come up with these ideas! I will be doing the Bargello this weekend, this will be the first one of your quilts that I have made. I went through your pattern section and saw several that I would love to try.

I am astounded at what you get done Bonnie. I love the new quilt too. I am looking forward to this Sunday. I know what you mean about leaving the people. We closed out a upholstery business in 2004 and had to say goodbye to lots of customers. It is heartbreaking.

Oh Bonnie, I just admire your talent. I wish I were even half as creative and productive as you!

Oh, Bonnie, my sympathy on having to say good-bye to so many people. Are you going to resume the massage therapy career in W-S?

Bonnie, do you really eat & sleep??? I don't know how you get everything done with all that you do.

I can't even think of moving out of my house (I've been here 10 years)!!

With the move will you have to get re-certified to do massage therapy in your new state? Please don't try to do that right away on top of everything else. . .you do need to sleep some time!

I know just where you're at having to say goodbyes to people you're fond of - but you're on the brink of a new and exciting adventure and of people from the old place are good enough friends you'll stay in touch - onwards and upwards!!!!

That "red" does the trick! Just the right amount of "POP" to make it flow.

Your heart if heavy now...but remember that is love you have stored there... not hard feelings or misery. In time then it will turn into pleasant memories.

My dear friend. My heart aches for you as I know how difficult it is to leave people you have come to cherish. Just remember, when God closes a door He always opens a window. May His comfort surround you during this time. Allow yourself the hurt so that when you meet and make more friends(not NEW ones) you will be blessed.

As for the red in the new quilt...you know what I quote: "I believe red is a neutral. There is no color that won't be enhanced by red." — Freddy Moran

You are in my prayers,

Phyl

Bonnie,
I admire your energy and creativity-you can always find something else to do with your scraps. Its a great new design that you have come up with.
I am with Phyl and Freddy Moran- red makes other colors richer looking.

Change can be hard but your warmth and friendly nature will be appreciated by the many new people who enter your life in Winston- Salem. I always find the hardest time for me is the actual transition time - the time before some known change is coming until the change actually comes is the most challenging for me- perhaps it is the same for you.

In the meantime, you seem to have found a good antidote- making more beautiful quilts.

Regards from a Western Canadian Quilter,
Anna

Aww, Bonnie, my heart goes out to you. It's so hard to pull up roots. Even when you know the new roots will grow deep and strong, too. Is't God good to give us fabric and talent and online friends to bridge us over to the new root home! There is a long line of women reaching back hundreds of years, who have been quilting their hearts into their quilts, tears and all. We're part of a rich heritage. --Just be glad you're not moving the stash on a covered wagon though! 8^P
I'm loving the play by play. And I've got my strips cut!

It's so satisfying to use up blocks which have already been made - and then get such a fabulous result! I love the quilt, and very much identify with your need to quilt in the midst of uncertainty. Keep it up!
