Requiem!

Last night was our performance of Durufle's Requiem with the South Carolina Philharmonic. The concert was held in the historic Trinity Cathedral in Columbia, and it was the perfect venue for the concert. We played to a full capacity crowd, and the music just filled that old cathedral to the rafters. I can't describe how it feels to be part of a sound that big. The most moving moment for me was when the "Kyrie Elaison" floated through with all of it's movements in wonderful counterpoint. It gave me chills to sing it.

Here are some silly pics of me in my concert duds before I headed out. I had a picture taken of my hair too, since I thought the snood was really classy ;c)

The lilies top is DONE and put to bed for a while. Now that the weekend is over, it's time to get back to everyone else's quilts and concentrate my free time on handwork that is piling up. I've been a piecing fiend over the past few weeks. And I can piece during the two retreats I have in february, now it's time to get the actual QUILTING parts done!

The pic of the border on the lily quilt....remember all those bonus 1/2 sq triangle units that were left over both from the weed-whacker quilt and the pineapple blossom? They all trim down to the same size! So I spent an evening watching an old movie and squaring them up. There were enough to go around the whole lilies quilt with pinwheels and I think it finishes it off with a sparkle. That's it. Nothing more going on this quilt. No separating border, no framing border..the thing is already 90" square! I'll just bind it with something dark. I'm thinking purple.

I have a new discovery I have fallen in love with. Lipton is making
flavored teas. I always stayed away from plain ole lipton and went for the
other more fancy names...but this one called to me from the shelf. It's
lipton french vanilla.....and OH MY!! It is the yummiest tea! I like mine
with a bit of splenda and some milk in it....but it would be good straight
up too. Great for those chilly mornings.

You look great . . and happy!! Love the lilies quilt. Those string blocks really made it shine. I can't believe you had enough 1/2 square triangles left over for that whole border. Way to go!!

the pinwheels make a perfect edging for the lily quilt... I love the scrapp effect playing up the strings even more :-)

Very smart - both you and the lilies quilt top. There's nothing quite like singing your heart out in a magnificent building with acoustics to match - food for the soul :o)

I love the Lilies, Bonnie! For some reason, the colors look like something from Mexico. The old way of colors that they did. Very nice.

Oops! I forgot I wanted say how cute you look in your concert duds. Tres chic! It's hard to believe you are the mother of grown (or almost grown) boys. What is your secret?

Your snood IS very classy indeed. It is a magical thing being a part of the sound that completely fills the space that contains it. You and the sound have no boundaries between you. You are one and the same.

I love to hear about your singing! Thanks for sharing photos of you all cleaned up ;)

Question - The quilt over the Fireplace... do you change it out and put another quilt up in it's place with each month/season? I would imagine you have a quilt collection so large you could change them out weekely if you wanted to ;c) ~Bonnie in TX

For some reason, this post was one of the "you might also like" links at the bottom of your post about the quilts and sewing machine that were stolen. Not sure about the connection, but it IS something that I'm interested in! I'm a member of a concert chorale, and I think your outfit is so much better than the one we have to wear! I wish they let us pick our own blacks, but we all have the same georgette skirt and fly away jacket. My daughter says we look good, because we are all wearing the same thing, but it certainly doesn't flatter anyone! I just came back from our winter concert. We sang Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil in Church Slovonic. It is a exquisite piece, but it was the hardest thing I have ever had to learn! I have had it running through my head day and night! Maybe now that it's over, I'll be able to sleep!
