I'm still thinking on the borders for "My Blue Heaven" I have these left over hour glass units. What if I were to make more of them and use them as the second border?
I tried to put them right up against the quilt center and they got lost.
I don't feel like making more flying geese units, they will just add to the busy-ness, but I thought that the hourglass blocks, all being blue...would darken the edge but still have some spark to them...more than a plain slapped on border, you know?
And....I can use up more blule 2.5" strips this way? what do you think?

I really like the hourglass units and how they darken the edges some. Maybe use a narrow solid or nearly solid border in between the center and the hourglass units as outer border?
(As a side note, I had to fight with blogger for about 15 minutes to get it to post this. So I really do like the quilt!)
I think that is a great idea, with a narrow inside border of dark navy blue. Just my thought.
I agree with Dot...a darker blue narrow border and then the hourglass borders would look great. What a wonderful quilt!
Okay...I was just coming here to suggest everything that has already been mentioned, lol, a thin dark blue border between the center and the hourglasses, lol!
Gee, alot of us think alike. I'm with a narrow solid,plain border and then this hour glass.
Guess I'll make it unanimous so far. My thought was narrow dark border then the hourglasses. Seems like that's what everyone else thinks too. (But I'm usually the just slap a plain border on kinda gal so think that would look geat too. LOL!)
It's a great idea. I never would have thought of it -- but it really looks grand next to the quilt.
Well here I am checking in at the end of the day...my vote is also thin blue inner border to stop all the action and then the hour glass border. Wonderful quilt!

I might consider using a tan 1/2" border to end the centre then use the darker blue hourglass blocks.
Hmm, I'd be tempted to make a 2 inch solid border, either color, then turn the hourglasses so that the darkest triangle of the 4 touches that solidness. And maybe even alternate solid blue blocks between the blue hourglasses, to make it even darker.
Hey there Bonnie, I think the hourglasses would look wonderful as the outer border, and a neat zinger fabric as the inner border. Have fun choosing!

Why do I get the feeling that by the time I type this you will already have the border finished? I agree with the small dark inner borer and then the hourglasses. It is going to be a great quilt!

I'm sure whatever you do is going to be fabulous, but gotta say it's not doing it for me right now. The hourglass blocks have a different rhythm than the blocks - maybe because they are smaller.
Wide navy border then sawtooth triangles then a narrow navy border.
I always have to be different, don't I...
This is amazing - practically everyone said the same thing -- a narrow dark blue (or a light tan) and then the hourglass units would be my vote.
This is Monday, and I feel confident Speedy Bonnie will have it together and may even have it quilted by this time!
Great use of scraps and color.
I like the idea. Just put a Plain Jane border between them and the body of the quilt.

I really like those hourglass blocks in the slightly deeper fabric - if it were me I would add the following first - a 1" beige, 1" navy blue, 1" beige sandwich - then the hourglass row followed finally by a beige say 3 - 4" final outer border and then bind with the navy -but hey you've made millions more quilts than me so what am I doing telling you what to do - whatever you decide will be fabulous - your quilts always are :o)

I think it is unanimous . . . narrow border to frame the center, and hour-glass blocks on the outside. Although I am intrigued by Anne Bebbington's triple bar border between, also. It's also unanimous that whatever you choose will be stunning, and we'll all be jealous!
Yeah so I'm late because I've been gone - but I was thinking more along the lines of a sawtooth thing too. The hour glasses aren't doing it for me - but I don't hate them.
I'm going to be no help at all - but I like the hourglass and I would like a couple of plainer borders too (thin strip, then wider border then binding). You'll know what's "just right" when you've auditioned a few options :-)

I think it needs a thin solid border but then something different than the hourglass strips since they are already in the quilt.
Save your hourglass strips and put them on the backing. The quilt is georgous, but I think the busy-ness needs to stop and not re-start.
You've probably already got it quilted by now...so hurry up and post a picture!
This is just gorgeous!! I just got a whole bunch of blues - can't wait to get going!
