Catching up and Keeping Up!

20150115_101420
Emmy Lou couldn’t care less!

Or maybe this is how she shows that she is happy that I am home.

I keep a scrap piece of batting on the chair for her..the leather is cold, the batting is warm, and it collects her shedding fur and holds it there, keeping us both happy!

I shot this photo yesterday morning, and I turned around just now to check – yes, she is back in the chair again, keeping close watch on me…behind closed eyelids!

Yesterday was a bit insane.

This is where I admit I haven’t had time to even unpack my suitcase – there it sits at the end of my bed just waiting, but it will have to wait a bit longer.

I spent yesterday catching up with this:

Hexiing My Way Home!

20150114_110005
A long travel day from the Southwest to the Southeast just doesn’t give a girl much to blog about!

But it does give her lots of time to sit and sew hexies!

I’ve been carrying this section around for quite a while..I think I started this section before Thanksgiving, and I didn’t pick it up at all during the month of December.

It only travels.

When I left for Texas, the floral border was still in the making.  I assemble that section separately, and then attach it to the rest.

I completed the floral border, and here you see I am working on the single row of neutral hexies to frame that.

No, no first class this leg, but some how I ended up in seat 20f which had no seat in front of it!  Leg room...but then no where to put my bag!

It's a toss up....leg room won out!

A Rose of a Day!

20150113_081126
Here I sit, my bags packed –everything ready to go home.

I’m still up too early, I can’t seem to stop that.  It seems that my body will take no more than 7 hours of continuous sleep, so if I’m to bed by 10:30, I’m up at 5:30 and there is no use in just laying there wasting time so I get up.

I don’t have Arizona teaching plans again until 2017, so I’m not sure when I’ll be back here, but it comforts me to know I’m leaving a bit of myself behind.

A pair of slippers in the guest room closet.

A hair dryer under the bathroom sink.

I’ll be back!

When Family Matters Most!

20150109_181843-002
I love seeing my dad interacting with his grandchildren!

This is my niece Jessica, the daughter of my brother Mark, and my sister in law Sharolyn! I have loved watching her grow up.  She is now a senior in high school, a very talented pianist, and also plays the cello and viola in her high school orchestras.

She is excited about heading off to college and dorm life next fall – ready to stretch her wings and fly.

I know she will go far!

((And have you ever seen a happier grandpa being loved by a granddaughter?))

Last evening’s blog post was non-existent because there just was not time.  I have been surrounded by family, and it is right where I needed to be.

Show & Share in Arizona!

20150108_124128
Go Kathy!

She gives a BIG thumbs up at the completion of Celtic Solstice, last year’s Quiltville Mystery!

((That hopefully this year will appear in print as a stand alone pattern published by Kansas City Star, stay tuned for more details to come!))

She did such an excellent job on this….she deserves all the thumbs up we can give her as this quilt is not for the faint of heart and in the quilting scheme of things, she is a relatively new quilter!

We had a great three days of show & share in Arizona and I can’t wait to share them all with you.  Each one was as beautiful as the next, with fabrics and styles so varied ----

Galaxy-Gram! Rest, Walk & Stitch!

I had every intention of making this a wordless Sunday post,  but knowing me as I know me,  and as YOU know me, well,  it would be a cold day in Arizona before that would ever happen!

Today has been wonderful-

Some computer work to catch up, some laundry to catch up as well,  a lovely long solo walk in the sunshine while my dad was busy with a pickle ball match, a home made lunch, and loads of hexie stitching with my feet up wipe watching some tv.

Loving the Roosevelt's series  that was on PBS. I missed it back when it was airing and dad had it recorded. We've made it through 2 episodes,  each 2 hours long. Too deep to do all 7 episodes back to back so we've also settled in to a White Collar marathon on Netflix.

I needed this day to be just what it is---I can't remember my last Lazy
Sunday.

And this evening promises to be much of the same. Nice!

San Manuel & the Copper thimble Quilters!

20150110_071652
This is what 7am looks like, driving from Sun Lakes, AZ down to San Manuel, AZ for my workshop day with the Copper Thimble Quilters!

The sunset was glorious, but trying to shoot photos of saguaro cactus along the side of the road while riding shotgun proved to be a difficult task!  Still, the desert at sunrise is a sight to behold.

It’s a two hour drive down from my Dad’s place to San Manuel, and it is ALL so scenic.  The mountains in Arizona are rocky, forboding and full of history.

San Manuel was built in 1953 as a company town to serve the then-new San Manuel copper mine, mill and smelter complex. When copper prices fell in the late 1990s, the mine and smelter complex shuttered both operations in June 1999. The closing saw 2,500 people lose their jobs. The mine and smelter were permanently closed in 2003. source

San Manuel is still a thriving community with a very active quilters guild, who aptly named themselves the Copper Thimble Quilters!

Pineapple Blossoms Down in San Manuel!

Sew Many Pineapples!

It was a 2 hour drive through the Arizona desert this morning,  and let me tell you,  you have never seen a more beautiful sunrise than the drive down to San Manuel.

Today's class is sponsored by the Copper Thimbles Quilt Guild and the Arizona state guild.

Pineapple Blossom blocks are showing up all over!

Friends Don’t Let Friends Quilt Alone!  Ha!

These three gals have been quilting together for 29 years.

They have shared fabric, thread, batting, patterns, love, laughter, tears, help and hope through nearly 3 decades.

Aren’t quilting friends the best?  Who knows us better than our quilting friends?

We gathered together in Chandler with a group of 30 members of the Arizona Quilters Guild, with many different chapters being represented.  The Arizona Quilters Guild is the main state guild, and there are many chapters all around the state, so it’s a great way to meet other quilters when joint workshops and activities are presented.

Today I’m getting an early start.  A 6:30am meet up with Elaine, the president of the Arizona Quilters Guild.  She will be driving me down to San Manuel for a Pineapple Blossom workshop that starts at 9am.  It’s a 2 hour drive to get there.  Egad.

My tail is dragging by the end of the day, but I’ve been getting good sleep in the care of my dad so mornings I’m up and raring to go.  Workshop #11 of this trip..the last one…and we will fill it full and have a ball.

Are you ready, San Manuel?  I’m on my way!
