Yesterday’s Cathedral stars class was such a great way to start off the Bluegrass Quilt Festival!
We even had a newspaper photographer come through and take pictures of my ladies working on their projects, and we answered all kinds of questions about our love of quilting and what draws us together. I don’t know when it will show up in the paper but I hope someone sends it to me!
No, this tan featherweight beauty is NOT mine, but I still had to get a picture! I see these so rarely, and I love it when I do! I’m not on the lookout for one, but you know what? If one crossed my path and the price was right, oh yes, it would come home with me!
We had several featherweights a humming in class yesterday ----happy little girls just to be sewing up the scraps!
Cathedral stars is a lot easier than it looks. We focused on getting our seam allowances to where they need to be by working at getting our strip sets for the 4-patches the right height. From there we worked on streamlining the process of getting pairs matched and nested, ready to sew in the CUTTING process ---avoiding the whole “I have piles to dig through, which one should I sew to this one” conundrum which takes up so much time! I love showing my students how I do all my choosing of what goes next to what in the cutting process – not the sitting at the machine process --- so when I sit down with my matched pairs I just rapidly feed them through the machine one after another.
From there we moved on to half-square triangles and the Easy Angle ruler ----and after lunch on to Tri-Recs and the rest of the day was production time to put all the units we’d made into blocks!

Today’s workshop is a clear-out of bricks and squares! Hopefully there will be swapping going on as variety is the spice of the scrap quilt! It’s an Oklahoma Backroads day ---bring it on, I’m ready!
It's also my dinner-lecture night ---This should be a fun, full day.

Today is a brand new day with another full class of quilters whose names I won’t likely remember by the time I move on to the next town either, but I will remember their smiles and their laughter and the special connection that we feel quilter to quilter!
