This week got a little bit hijacked with our Gift-Away Trifecta and the drawing sign-up snafus...but here we are, all of the quilts and projects over the porch rail with the August Quiltvillians 2.0!
We worked around the weather, finding an afternoon full of sunshine so we could get these photos taken.
We had so many newbies, and that was exciting! I always love seeing things and feeling the excitement of first-timers as they discover the fun we have here.

I have always loved that border on Dawn's Early Light - I'd love to do a string quilt with nothing but those border units. Ideas are swirling. Sew many quilts, Sew little time!

Funny story - they told me to do a selfie and get everyone in the background and I did....but it wasn't until this morning that I looked closely at that photo and saw....to my own horrors...that there was SPINACH IN MY TEETH!
Good grief.
That means that I gave that whole EPP demo with spinach in my teeth. (Salad for lunch was yummy.) And no one said anything?
Note to self - always check for stuff in your teeth before you do ANYTHING in public. Geeeeez.

A little more hexie progress.
It doesn't look like much yet. But a girl must have SOMETHING to stitch in the evening while unwinding with some murder and mayhem tv.
Things I've learned on this first motif: My oranges/corals need to be darker. That one stripe fabric (recycled shirt) fades into the neutrals. Must have more contrast.
Same thing with the greys. They can't be too light or there is no differentiation between the grey and the neutral.
Likewise greens. Can't be so light they blend into the neutrals.
Ivy says "No lighter than the green of my eyes, mama!"

Oh boy, do I hate when stores change their layouts. Publix (supermarket) did that a year ago and I still can't find anything. BJ's and Walmart did the same thing a few months ago. I really hate shopping now. I can't get around as easily as I did years ago and chasing things down through the whole store is so tiring that I give up, especially when Walmart's few mobility scooters are all being used by other people. It's gotten so bad that I only shop Walmart for food. Anything beyond that, I order from Amazon.
The photo shoot was Sunday and the EPP was Monday so no spinach in teeth for demo! Thanks again for a great time! Jackie from Iowa

Our local Costco moves things around constantly. Our community is mostly seniors and I think they do it to keep us on our toes and get some steps in and keep our minds active! LOL. Fran in WA

I have all my fabric pulled for Silk Path. Seeing that one gives me a push to get it started. I think it ranks in to 5 of favorites and I haven't even done one yet!

I can relate to Walmart remodeling. They did ours at Christmas. Frazzling!
Still seeing "PDF file - open" kinda stuff on your home page. A few more such offers on "read more" pages. I did click, thinking it was a pattern but it took me down a road of "click here" and "download your fil"e kinda thing. Good luck with the fixes! Yes I did sign up with CT for your book! I have all of them so far, just not this new one.
Our Costco does that too, grrr! I’m sure it’s so you’ll go up and down every aisle looking for what you want, and just happen to pick up a bunch of other stuff along the way! I try not to take a cart, that way I can get around people quicker and get out of there. Candy
If I can't find what I am looking for, I find some one and ask - "Where are you hiding (product I'm searching for) today?" Some laugh, some it goes right over the moon! LOL
Personal thoughts - stores change things around causing shoppers to look harder and hopefully they will spend more money on new things they never noticed before - thus spend more!! Ever since my first experience with rearranging everything - I always go aisle by aisle and still pick up only what is on my list ad maybe something I forgot to add to the list - so they don't gain anything from me!!!
Thank you Bonnie. Glad to know you have learning moments on your projects too! I can look at most quilts I have made and wish something was different. But will learn for next time. I look at other quilter's projects and I will NEVER tell them what I would do differently, they are on their own journey. With every quilt I look at I learn something I want to take forward to better my own quilting...which is good thing, and the rest is simply being mean. It isn't my quilt or my vision.

I have found that the value of the background pieces next to a medium piece (that is supposed to be the dark value) will keep the medium from not getting lost into the background. Only a quilter would understand that sentence! Let's try: If the background piece is really light, then a medium will appear darker in value. OK, I give up!
