A Week with the Bonniacs!

Hi Everyone!

I knew I said there would not be blogging while at my mom's but I have time to get at least these photos out to you -

Mom's out in the garden watering and we are leaving soon to go pick up her two sister's at the airport and things are about to get crazy here, but for now I have some calm and quiet.

And these quilts deserve to be shared!

We have a newly completed Hamilton Gardens top on the left - and the Dresden variation on the right was made with Dresden plate parts that were retrieved out of an aunt's (I think) trash can!

I love how Laura has set them on a traditional red background for a quilt she can use and love.

Old Town on the left and Grassy Creek on the right!

Lupine & Laughter, another lovely Dresden!

Moonflower on the left from our retreat workshop and a completed comfort quilt top on the right.

The most rainbow happy section of all!

Hamilton GardensFour Patch Fun, and a delightful baby quilt top finish!

Here they are all waving me farewell - I left for Bristol to stay the night at a hotel near the airport to catch my 6am flight yesterday -

I got word as I was landing in Atlanta that everyone was checked out and things were locked up and they'd see us again next year.

With the honorary sweatshirt front and center!

And just so these ladies know how wonderful this gifted shirt was - I wore it yesterday because it was dang cold at 6am when I boarded that flight in the rain.

It was still chilly in Atlanta when we landed - the plane from Minneapolis to Boise was even attempting to reach penguin climate on board...I was so happy to have this with me!

Landing in Minneapolis - city of my birth.

Every time I land here, whether it's just for a plane change or if I'm visiting family I think about all of those family members I've loved so much who have passed on.

There is something that touches your heart and soul when you put your feet down on the place where you began.

As we started our descent into Boise....I could see that the mountains below were still snow capped.

Until they weren't!

Sis=in-law Alicia, Brother Scott, and me.

There's a bit of a crazy story - My first flight left for Atlanta a bit late due to thunderstorms.

Then there was a maintenance issue -

I told myself not to worry as I had plenty of layover time in Atlanta.

A 45 minute flight took 90 minutes because they decided to go AROUND the storm and come into the airport at the opposite end.

I know they did what they had to do to keep us safe...but this was...just wow.

Then it was a 10 minutes of taxiing to get us to the gate.

I was panicking.  My flight was already boarding.  Not only that, there was a notice on my Delta app that they were going to depart 5 mintues EARLY.  I guess they were trying to get out before the next round of weahter?

I anxiously asked the attendants as I was exiting the plane as to which terminal we were in.

D!

We gated at D-21 and my Minneapolis flight was departing out of D36.  I RAN!  It was NOT PRETTY!

It was just like in the movies ....I see them about to close the door....I hold out my ticket, the guy scans it with the reader gun and I am sprinting and panting down the jet bridge.

But I made it.  No extra time for the restroom.  No time to grab breakfast.  Just go.

From there it was fine...decent layover in Minneapolis (got something to eat) boarded on time...and other than the fact that my glasses were about to fog with ice from the cold on the plane, we got to Boise in fine time.

Only my luggage....didn't.  I didn't htink it would.

I went to the little baggage claim office and took my baggage ID number to the desk and the lady was SO nice...she looked it up, found that it was on the "next" flight" and would arrive in 40 mionutes or so.

So Alicia, Scott and I headed out for a late lunch, enjoyed some time catching up, came back for my suitcase which had just come down the chute, and off we went to come up here to Garden Valley where they were staying for dinner, a walk around the garden, and heading back down to Nampa.

My stay at the airport hotel the night before is another story I'd rather forget.  So.  Suffice it to say that I was in bed at 8>30pm and slept through to 6am Idaho time which is 8am home time.

Today....we head back to the airport to pick up mom's sisters.  I usually come a day ahead to stay the night at my Brother's house for a one day visit first, but this year they are having construction done on their house and that just wasn't going to work.  But the tickets were bought and unchangeable so....we are back to the airport today.

I don't know if I will have much time for blogging when everyone gets here - but I wanted to touch base and say hellp, share the lovely quilts and let you know I made it in one piece.

So far.

Hi Bonnie! Welcome back to the great PacNorWest! Yes it is still cool up here, but you are prepared with that wonderful sweat shirt. Have fun with the family. Speaking of that, you are right that every time I go home, it brings back so many memories of those that I've lost and the great times that were had. I don't want to live there again, but it was great growing up where I did.

I loved your comment, "Every time I land here, whether it's just for a plane change or if I'm visiting family I think about all of those family members I've loved so much who have passed on." I don't have that kind of tie to my birthplace because I was a baby when we moved upstate. Over the years I lived with my family we moved about a dozen times and I've moved dozens more since then. I have those same type of feelings for all of the friends made in all of those places... memories of family and friends, some still with me and some passed on. As for those, from whom I came, I've had the opportunity over the past few years to visit the graves of family I never knew and to feel that connection to those who have passed on. Looking back can be very special!

Hi Bonnie, This blog post reminded me of the blogs you use to put out when you traveled for quilt classes and retreats. All the quilt luggage you would take and the travel issues. I was always amazed you had the energy to do all you did. Thank you for many years you shared your life with us.
