Strings, A Request & London Photos!

Mail order is now caught up!  How wonderful is that?

After being gone for 11 days and coming home to a whole lot of "Gotta tackle this" I was finally able to breathe and slow down yesterday afternoon.

That is my main objective over the next 4 weeks before I leave for Australia.

Slow down.  Find peace.  Find joy in little things.

Do you feel that way as the year draws to a close?  The desire to just SLOW DOWN?

Remember this project?  This happened sometime before Thanksgiving.  It feels like months ago!

Last evening Hubster Dave went out to join his man-buds for an evening of fun cornhole playing which left me home alone (For the first time in I don't know how long?!)

I lit a candle to make the studio smell like Christmas pine.  I put music on my soundbar.

I got out my ruler and rotary cut all of the string panels I'd pieced into the triangles I need for this string project that is now front and center for my "Sew At Home Time"

And then I grabbed the whole she-bang and headed up to the couch where I put my feet up and depapered them all while watching a documentary on Netflix.

Yes, Home Alone time means I get to watch what *I* want to watch.  It's the small joys, right?

This is where things stand now.

Pinks, yellows and neutrals -

Yes, I'm looking forward to spring!

This is my next color up on deck.

What you see here are just a few of the strings left after I cut for my own Old Town quilt.

I have been asked by so many readers "What can I do to thank you for the free projects and fun you provide to us every year?"

If you want to do a little something while you've got your Old Town aquas out -

I am in need of aqua strings!  I don't have a lot of variety left after finishing my Huka Falls quilt. (Which is releasing as a PDF pattern next month!)

I used up all of my variety of aqua between Huka Falls and Old Town and the aqua hexies on my ongoing hexie quilt (Which were not strings, but came from FQs and such)

Would you, could you - if you feel so inclined - Send me a string/strip of the aqua you are using in your Old Town quilt?  Minimum width is 1'' but I can use anything above that and they don't need to be straight cut.

Simply put a strip in an envelope, put a stamp on it and mail it to me at:

Bonnie Hunter
Quiltville

Mouth of Wilson VA 24363

I hope this ask isn't too much - I want to use YOUR Old Town fabrics in this new quilt I"m making, and I hope you'll enjoy seeing your fabrics in this quilt as it comes together.

Yes, I know what happened when I asked for grey strings a few years back - but bring it on! LOL!

Our Craftours group and a London walking tour!

We really lucked out on our second day - there was blue sky and a bit of sunshine in the morning and the temps were not that bad -

Our inside tour of Westminster Abbey would happen the next day - but for now, we were out and about with our London guide giving us a bit of a history lesson.  She was phenomenal! I could listen to her forever.

And another selfie to send to my dad.

My brother got him a digital photo frame last year for Christmas and we can send photos directly to his frame so that's what I was doing every day.

Always photograph the bride and the groom!

If you are following along with our Old Town mystery - I shared photos of a bride and groom there too.  Hope blooms eternal....

Gathering while our guide shares more stories -

While statues watch over us.

Every which way we turn there is something to point out.  Something to learn.

More selfies to send home -

Me...marveling and wondering why we don't do architecture like this anymore? And that unsuspecting photo bomber...I wonder what he is listening to through his ear buds?

Union Jack, waving in the breeze.

Here's another one for you, dad!

Methodist Central Hall.

From the bus -

I love the dragons that signify that you are either entering London proper - or leaving it.

A bus window glimpse of St Paul's Cathedral.

A bit reflective from the window -

But so lovely!

And yes, there is more to share.  Look for that to happen in Saturday's post.  Because tomorrow is....Old Town Part Four!

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

These days, it's best to question everything!
FYI: this lovely vintage quilt was the inspiration for my own Sugar Top quilt pattern. I made mine in recycled shirt fabrics.

Have a terrific Thursday, everyone!

Looking at your photos brings back many memories of my trip to London. I marveled at the beautiful buildings and wondered how they did that. Thinking that London is centuries older than us. Thanks for the memories Bonnie.

Thanks for the great pictures of London. I would think the bride would be freezing since everyone else has coats on! I also totally understand about getting to watch the TV program you want! That is the reason I read or listen to audio books.

Sending fabric is like in the old Sewing Bee days. You got it!! Hope you get a bunch. Love seeing London, can't wait for Highclaire Castle day. Plugging along on old Town. Had a Quilting day with my Eldest Granddaughter. Best Fun Ever!

You know that saying "Be careful what you ask for". Jo Kramer once asked for Halloween fabric and the mail delivery truck had to make a special trip with packages just for her. Quilters are always willing to share. Im sending aqua for you today!! Thanks for all you do for the quilting world.Merry Christmas

Hi Bonnie, I know you’re coming to Australia but I’m sorry I can’t see you 😢 I hope you take your tour to The Chinese Garden of Friendship in Sydney. You will not regret it. Thanks for everything. I’m sorry I don’t have aqua to share. Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year 🎆

oh, you and I are definite kindred spirits! I love it when the Mister is out on his road trips taking the band kids and such. (bus driver) I thought Saturday was going to be a good sewing day, but now it sounds like not so much. Which is ok, too!!
It looks like you had some beautiful weather to enjoy the sites of London. Such gorgeous architecture. Looking forward to the next piece of the puzzle. Happy quilting!

Your photos are great. I read a lot of mysteries set in England and wonder if you do as well? If so, did you recognize any of the buildings mentioned?

My apologizes if I missed this info, but is there a minimum length for the aqua strips? I have a number that are about 4" long. Thank you sooooo much for the joy you bring !
