Antique Mall Hopping!

It was an antique mall hop weekend!  Whooohooo!

It had been a while - a long while.

And it all started on Friday - remember that mammogram appointment that I had scheduled for Friday afternoon?

I got there just in time...only to find out that they had tried to reschedule me while I was in England.  Of course the call didn't go through because I only use wifi when available when I am abroad. So I show up to no appointment.

A new appointment was made at that time.  And I had some more time to kill in between what was supposed to be the mammogram and my next up appointment with the chiropractor.

So my day turned out to be haircut, antique mall, chiropractor.  Works for me!

How fin is this?  A bunch of Ohio Stars with random string blocks thrown in I would guess to "Make it big enough."

And I love that several of the stars have substitution fabrics as there was not enough of the main thing to complete each block.

I love this "Oh, Whatever!" approach to quilting!

This was a sweet one with double pinks and a soft light blue resist print.

Four patches in a nine patch!

On Saturday we headed out with some friends to hit the Christmas Market in Wytheville - what fun!  There were all kinds of booths for crafts and baked goods.

I bought some yummy smelling goat milk lotion from a vendor - I always try to bring something home from someone.

And what were we supposed to do about that antique mall across the street? Ignore it?  Not a change!

Nowhere to unfold it, but isn't this a sweet Drunkard's Path?

1930s nine-patch top stuffed into a cupboard.

Yes, it has feed sacks!

Sometimes quilts are used as table cloths as in the case of this turkey tracks quilt.  I love the soft jade green with the red. It still feels like it could be a Christmas quilt - but is good for any season.

Wow!

I have no idea what this pattern is called - but wow!

I love that the vendor took this time to pin this note -

Another applique beauty.

Check out the "orange peel" quilting!

Teal and brown baskets.

More 1930s nine-patches!

There were a couple of really beautiful quilts tied to the corners of a cabinet - no way to get them down and really insect them but I can only imagine the work that went into this Carolina Lily.

These are some of those red prints where the black design on the red was so caustic to the fabric that it just ate it away. Something to do with mordants in the dying/printing process?

Tulips of another variation -

Dear Santa - if you are listening -

Isn't this spool cabinet a thing of beauty?

Check out the label on the side!

And this price?

I don't think even Santa will agree that I've been "That Good" of a girl this year.  LOL!

Besides, if I had that kind of cash I'd rather buy fabric.  Let's be real.

The most precious memory calling find of the day!

As much as I love to post about the "weird" find of the day - here is one that tugged at my heartstrings.

I remember my boys as babies playing with this tupperware shape ball for hours.

Both of them went through this thing - and I think I found mine at a yardsale somewhere when Jason was little.

They are now 43 and nearly 35.  But the years went so quickly in reverse as I held this ball in my hands and could picture them so clearly sitting on the living room floor with the shapes all around them, fitting them into the holes one by one.

It was a marvelous day out with friends that ended at dinner at a local Mexican place.

As for yesterday?  It was a complete fog-out-icy-rainy-mix kind of stay home day. It hovered right at freezing for most of the day.

We made the pilgrimage over to the inn to check in on Tula and make sure she was fed for the day.

I printed off some things that I needed in mi office and then I spent the rest of the day doing much of nothing.

I stitched hexies while finishing Black Doves on Netflix (Fun little spy series that takes place in London at Christmas time so there are lots of places I recognized!) and went in to binging Call The Midwife.

We made things even more lazy by baking up a frozen pizza (Yes, we doctor it up so it's not that bad...) and watching a couple more Christmas movies.

It was a TOTAL couch day and I loved it.

The assembly process has begun!

I've got this section pieced together - There is another setting "triangle" in neutrals that is in progress for the upper right corner. See layout photo above.

I'll be building this thing in diagonal rows and though there are many many units still to make, I just wanted to see some of it coming together.

I am liking the plain setting triangles so much better than the ones I tried that had half-motifs in them.

London at Night!

I have so many photos that I could post for two weeks or more with nothing but photos from our England trip - so here are a few more for your viewing pleasure -

The lights were so festive! And maybe that's the upside of things being pitch black by 4:30pm. The lights all come on.

Christmas lights and double decker busses!

SO MANY PEOPLE!!!

Driving past the London Eye - all lit up. So pretty!

Today's plan?

That red/neutral quilt is all laid out on the QPO studio floor.  I have some desk work ahead of me (Hey, it is Monday after all.) and then I want to start putting that together.

I hope the weekend was restful for you, with moments of time for your own creativity to flourish.

Here we go into another week - Less than 10 days until Christmas, and another Old Town clue to post on Friday.

Quiltville Quote of the Day -

This is exactly my way of thinking! ⁣
And yes, I will snatch up that 2" square from the floor to save it from being sucked up into the vacuum. ⁣
Every scrap matters and deserves a chance!

Have a marvelous Monday, everyone!

LOVED Black Dove on Netflix! I returned from London last week (celebrating my big 60th birthday) and was shocked at how early it gets totally dark there! But everyone just carries on as tho it were daylight! I loved seeing the interiors of Liberty on Black Dove! Cheers, Bonnie!

Ohh sweet - Tupperware shape sorter! My boys(about the same age as your boys) played and played with that, I stored it away and then all of the grandchildren played with it. Now the youngest grand is almost 6, so it has been stored away again. I also very much like the scrap quote today. I tend to be the 'collection center' for my group's unused fabric and when they tell me they have scraps for me - I say - 'you mean you have unused fabric for me'. LOL

Love that you doctor up a plain pizza. We did that as kids (to save money per my thrifty father) and continue it to this day!

Wonderful for you to get out with friends. I love a local bazaar. Got some local Honey from a guy. Being with a new friend- Priceless! Thought my shopping was done. Ouch on that Spool cabinet price. It's the last Mailing day for packages. Hope the fabric makes it in this rush time to you. Post office line was out the door on Saturday! Love the neutral in the hexie layout much better.

Oh Bonnie.......The Tupperware Ball brought back those precious memories of my three sons playing with one of their favorite toys, that very ball. I took the picture of it and sent it..via text.. to each one of my sons.....who are now 64, 61 and 58 years old. How did that happen?? It seems like it was just yesterday (or maybe the day before..HAHA, that they were toddlers playing with that ball)!! That pictured stirred a lot of nostalgic memories we shared back and forth for over a half hour!! It was so "special"!!

Oh so many beautiful vintage quilts! I loved looking at them and imagining how many many hours it took to piece together and then quilt them.
The Tupperware Shape Ball brought back happy memories for me as well. Our kids are 40, 43, and 45, and they all played with it as toddlers. I'm sure I purchased mine at a Tupperware party because all my friends were having them. :-)
Your hexies are growing into the start of a beautiful quilt. I took every free moment this past weekend to work on my Old Town Mystery. I'm using creams, reds, blues, and browns from Betsy Cutchian's "Maria's Sky 1840-1860" fabric line, and I'm loving it~~~the fabric and the Mystery! Thank you for doing the winter mystery sew along each year. Jenny

The Tupperware Shape Ball is a sweet memory for me, too. Both of my boys played with it. Did you design your latest hexie quilt or is it something you saw somewhere? It is so pretty! I totally agree about the scraps and your daily quote.

The spoon cabinet is a treasure. Over 20 years ago, I bought a J&P Coats 3 drawer. It is one of my treasures!

Oh, you scored a bunch of beautiful quilts on your browsing! Lots of inspiration. I'm liking the hexing project. Couch days are good, few & far between for us. I start a new job tomorrow. Doing the same thing I am now, (paraprofessional) but with more $$ & more time off to sew. Have a good evening & happy quilting! :)

I discovered you when I moved to Mechanicsville. I have lot of vintage family quilts and used to restore them. Recently though I took a very damaged quilt and thru fussy cutting got enough bits to make a jacket. I see it as the next step in usefulness. Anyway, if I come on a retreat in my jacket, will I be shot on sight?

lol. Love the old phones. Yes a slam was great! Love this new quilt. I must replenish my reds. Can’t wait. So how does the generator work? Is it hooked up to propane? Kathy Freels
