This is such a welcome sight!
We are currently on day 7 without power, but hope is all around us.
We made sure to thank these folks for all of the hard work they are doing to restore power to our area after Hurricane Helene.
This morning was for early Rising as we had an Orthopedics appointment for Dave at the hospital in Jefferson to see about his fractured clavicle and what we need to do to make sure he has the best healing possible.
While he headed in for that appointment, I went into town to see how the local Walmart was faring. And things look almost normal.
I picked up some reusable ice packs for the shoulder, some gluten-free baked goods that Dave needs, some Dairy that we are low on. And a few other assorted items.
You see, in this little mountain town of jefferson, North Carolina we are lucky to even have a Walmart. And while some folks won't shop there, we are grateful for the things they do provide that we can't get elsewise within 100 mile radius.
Some things they do not have and we have had to order them online and they won't be here until next week.
We were able to top off the Subaru with gas. There were several folks still filling gas cans likely for use in their generators.
Another casualty of the storm was the retaining wall that son Jeff and Hubster Dave work so hard to install at the side of the drive going to the parking area behind my post office studio.
We received more than 12 inches of rain in less than 24 hours and the wall just could not withstand it.
It's a small thing compared to everything that so many others lost but Jeff is up to help move the salvageable bricks out of the way and move most of the dirt and gravel so they can start building again.
We have notifications that are power may be on as early as midnight tonight but we aren't holding our breath and that's okay.
It's an absolutely beautiful gorgeous October day out there and we are just grateful that we are not dealing with power outages, downed trees, and frigid temperatures and ice.
Again, I am just focusing on the gratitude and the many gifts that we've been given through all of this.

It doesn't matter where - every bit will help someone.
I'm off to fix my hard-working guys some lunch.
It's the little things that keep me busy that keep me happy.

Little blessings become huge blessings when we take a moment to look around and really assess our own circumstances and surroundings. Prayers for your family and all those in the areas affected by Helene. Linemen and other rescue and service folks have traveled to those areas from Oklahoma. We understand the devastation that weather can bring.

Thank you for the updates, so sorry Helene visited and glad things look brighter there and you express your gratitude to the workers. During hurricane Charlie we received much from the Salvation Army in Florida and they are also a good place to donate.

You'll be so happy to have power again! We were without for 8 days once after a hurricane. The struggle is real. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm sure your son can get that wall back up again. That was an insane amount of rain dumped on western NC and VA.

Walmart was a life saver after Katrina. Even after their physical store in Waveland, MS was destroyed, they put up tents and supplied them with cleaning supplies, bottled water, when available fruits & fresh vegetables.
They were a God send to the people. I will give them my business, because they were there for my friends.

Keeping you in thoughts; and so glad you have equipment to use to fix what needs "fixin' ". I'm glad that you could get in to resupply your perisables; and get those things that will keep your hubby healthy, and most of all comfortable while he heals. I'm guessing based on these photo's that he isn't one to wait around for others to do the work. He has to be in the middle of everything. I remember going on vacation into NC and the only place nearby to shop was Dollar General, so we did. Glad you can still put a smile on the story.
So glad you are fairing well. We live in Florida. But thankfully we are safe. And you are right. We have a lot of linemen working the area. They have been unsung heros.
