Autumn days crisp enough for "Sweater Weather!"
Fall nights cold enough for cozy fires and yummy satisfying meals and hot beverages.
I love fall!
Sadly, it never lasts long enough - but while it's here I'll enjoy every day.
I thought a lot about my love of fall while making Ladder Star. The muted tones and shades of the recycled shirt fabrics - the yummy creams of the neutrals used as star points - it's just a cozy love of a star quilt that says "Fall is HERE!" and I loved every minute of making it -
I love cutting out and kitting up blocks -
One of my favorite things to do is to spend a cutting ady just making sets. After everything is clipped together, I can clean up the mess and be ready to just sit and sew as time allows.
The use of my Essential Triangle Tool enabled me to cut EVERYTHING from one width of strip, and put my scrap strip drawers to good use.
Of course, traditional rotary cutting methods and other options are provided so you can choose which method works for you - you can work your favorite way, your way.
The biggest hint I can give for working with recycled fabrics is to put unlikely pairs together. Don't always match everything. Go for the unexpected - it will all play so much better together.
I also tried to not put the same scale of plaid together in one block. Mix up the larger scale plaids with the smaller scale ones. Pull in some stripes and some prints to shake up the mix a bit.
I reversed the value between which was lighter or darker between the two colored fabrics in the block. This also makes things shimmer a bit - playing up some areas, and toning down others.
I hand quilted Ladder Star over the period of several months.
This time I didn't choose Baptist Fans, but rather worked cross-hatching in the squares, and did some continuous-curve outlining in the triangles.

I absolutely love this quilt. I think it may be easily be one of my favorites, but then lately shirt quilts have been my obsession - actually buying the shirts have been an obsession so I need to get busy making the quilts! And also I am SO EAGER for the color drop on the 31st!!!!
