I walked into the basement studio this morning - Coffee in hand and the morning sun shining right on my pineapple mess just as I had left it yesterday.
I had stopped stitching when it was time for dinner - I left things just as they were, simply reaching over to flip the switch on the power strip that controls my slim light, the machine, and my iron.
I fully intended to come back to where I left - it's rare that I will leave a block so close to completion unfinished - but dinner beckoned, and won the battle evidently.
As far as the detritus word goes - it's one of those words that tickles my tongue and seems to fit.
It first entered my vocabulary in massage therapy school, as referenced for all of the junk that can surround arthritic knees and the such.
But as a quilter? It's more like this:
I had vacuumed the day before.
I don't know why I bothered.
Folks ask if the dogs and cats present a shedding problem.
Not even close to the detritus left from sewing! I think my trimmings miss the trash can as much as they hit it.
And then there is the lint and dust and thread bits -
But the joy I get from using these saved bits is grand.
I may have posted these photos a week or so ago, but they still make me smile.
Yes, there is Pittsburgh Steelers fabric in there. And the clock fabric on the corner is a Y2K.
I've recently had folks tell me "You should be using the "fill in the blank" ruler to make these and you won't have to remove paper."
I don't mind removing paper. It comes off easily.
The pieces in my block are an odd measurement because I drew this block and printed it by desired block size, not strip width. It wouldn't work with ANY ruler - trust me.
And this is a great way to work with odd widths of strings and strips because I can sew on the line first, and then trim.
The accuracy is spot on.
And the biggest thing - Folks need to stop telling other people what they need to be doing instead of what they are already happily doing.
Beautifully refinished!
I'm so grateful for my menfolk who took on this big job of sanding and refinishing the butcher block style bathroom countertops for the upstairs baths at Quiltville Inn.
It wasn't an easy feat - especially with those under-mounted sinks.
I still have the job of putting everything back underneath - but we wanted to make sure there were no leaks before we did so.
There is time - but not much!
I leave a week from today for New Zealand. I get back on the 28th of January. We start up retreats again th3 2nd week of February.
I'm feeling the push to get as much ready as I can before I take off for 3 weeks.
And here we are at Wednesday - I've got a couple of days to get Part Eight of our Indigo Way Mystery ready.
How fast are these days flying?! Slow it down a bit, please.
And I think before I head out - I'm going to sit right back down at my machine and finish that one unfinished pineapple block -
The detritus on the floor can wait.
From yesterday's Facebook Memories!
This came through my memories of one year ago.
New River Star had just gotten its borders - do you remember?
The PDF pattern for New River Star is available in both the Quiltville Store and the Quiltville Etsy Pattern Shop.
Have you started this one? Is it sitting as a UFO somewhere? Maybe it's time to pull it back out and fall in love with it all over again.
It's not always the easiest thing to do, but I know you can do it!
Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

The high I get from the accuracy of paper piecing cannot be matched. And yes I do have three different types of pineapple ruler. LOL
I’m cry laughing at myself. I was over here googling “fill in the blank pineapple ruler”🤣🤣🤣. Pam
