There is nothing prettier magnificent than an Arizona sunset.
The sky lights up with color in ways that I haven't seen on the East coast.
I had mentioned earlier about a set of circumstances we had dealt with over the time that I've been here, and I am happy to let everyone know that everything worked out, and we were able to actually get out and do some things for the remainder of my stay.
We were house bound because we discovered dad's car had a dead battery late on Friday afternoon.
Not a big deal if you have two vehicles. Dad has one. Not a big deal if the shop your purchased the battery from and was still under warranty was going to be open late so we could come switch it out. (They weren't - and were closed for the weekend.)
It was just this set of circumstances where the best we could do is play "snowed in" and have the roadside assistance come give a jump start on Monday morning so he could drive it to the shop and have his battery under warranty taken care of and we'd be good to go.
Through it all I kept reminding him that "You never know what worse luck your bad luck has saved you from." We were at home. We were together. We had a fridge full of food because I had done the grocery run the day before.
So there was a lot of this. A LOT of this.
And so much this!
I ended up rationing the little kits I brought just so I wouldn't kick them all out at once and not have anything to keep my hands busy with more of the too much TV.
So Friday-Saturday-Sunday kept us at home, but there was also time for walks around the lakes in the greenbelt area of Sun Lakes where dad lives. Not too shabby.
And there was good food, good company, good movies.
And Monday morning the roadside assistance guy showed up, jumpstarted the car, off dad went to get that taken care of and we've been in business ever since.
Anticipating sunset!
We went to the top of South Mountain to enjoy the evening as things began to cool down and colors filled the sky.
Cloud cover makes it all that much better.
These colors -
And yes, there were many others out there with us.
Zooming in to block out the cars -
Getting too dark for selfies, but worth a try.
And the valley beyond.
The light changes second by second.
Beautiful.
And the colors of this sunset are swirling around begging to be turned into another quilt.
I've got to get home and start pulling fabrics.
My flight leaves Phoenix at 2pm this afternoon. I'll landing in Bristol, Tennessee around 11pm.
And yes, I saved enough hexie kits to keep me occupied during my flight.
This girl is homeward bound.

Safe trip home and glad your dad is feeling better!!
I like the "you don't know what this bad luck saved you from" idea. Definitely a positive spin on it. That was an awe inspiring sunset! I was thinking the same thing - what a colorway for a quilt.
Safe travel, Bonnie. The pix of the sunset are beautiful. Before I finished reading your blog, I was wondering whether you are going to make a quilt based on the sunset. I can't wait to see it.
I remember you commenting to me that you loved the colors of purple and orange together when you taught a workshop for our guild several years ago. I was making Tropical Twist in those colors and boy! Were they pretty! I was shooting for the colors in a sunset. I can't wait to see what you cook up!
Sometimes you just need to stop and smell the roses. In your case the roses turned out to be hexies.
OK, I can only keep saying WOW! Gorgeous sunset! So glad you were able to save some hexies for the boring plane ride, and any possible layover time. I have to tell you how much I love the new floor lamp I got through your link. It's cheaper and the features are miles above the one I bought a few months ago! I placed the old one beside a table and placed the new one next to my recliner. No more looking up to find the spot I had to waive my hand over, only to be blinded when the darn lamp turns on! This one has a remote control, and there's a manual on/off controller on the stem so no more getting blinded! Yay! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I love that you recommend products that work better and make our lives easier!
Lovely sunset colors. Looking forward to seeing the sunset quilt you come up with.
Looks like a perfect place to stand and watch for UFO's! And I don't mean the quilt kind.
Glad you made lemonade out of the situation. Beautiful views! Did you have your pearl onions dish this weekend?? Never too much TV when Hallmark Christmas movies are playing. Perfect for stitching time. Safe travels!
So close and yet so far. Next time in AZ, let me know. Will connect you to some of our quilt groups!
Beautiful sunset views and I agree there is nothing like sunset over the desert. I hope your Dad was feeling well enough to really enjoy your time there, it goes so fast. Safe flight homeward and back to being able to pull fabrics for what is brewing in your head.
I suggest you get your dad a Halo Bolt, car battery jumper. EZPZ to use, I have jumped several cars with no problem and I am a 70+ yr old woman with no knowledge of cars whatsoever. Some styles can also inflate a tire, most have an emergency flasher and ports to charge your cell phone. No affiliation, just a happy customer.
I do love old log cabin quilts with scraps and a little of everything in them :0) Happy Sewing!
So glad you were able to spend time with your Dad ! Priceless ! But the whole time I'm reading your post, I'm thinking it was leading to an UBER ride ?!
But I don't know the circumstances and what your original plans were - so maybe that wasn't an option.
In any event - safe travels home !!
I'm glad you had this time with your dad.
I remember a quotation from Elly Sienkiewicz when she was on Simply Quilts that has stuck with me. "There ain't nothing so bad but what it couldn't be worse." I think that was something she learned from an aunt.
Safe travels.
I recognize criss Cross applesauce!
OH MY the colors in the pic with the cars. thought ooh colors for next mystery or quilt...range from deep purple, lavender mountains to bright yellow to orange sunset with a little sage mixed Just Wow Cant wait to see what you develop with this inspiration. Hope you had a great visit with Dad
