We flew from Cairo to Luxor. LUXOR!
The city Luxor that now stands where the ancient settlement of Thebes was the capital of Egypt for long periods during the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom eras.
My inner history nut was soaking in every minute of standing in ancient spaces.
As I go through these photos a month later - what Yusef our Egyptologist told us has come to pass. All of the photos are the same color. LOL!
And one temple starts to resemble another and you can't remember which ones were from which location.
OH, so many photos!! But look! Click to Play:
Checking out all of the sphinxes' that lead us into the entrance of amazing columns
Random people - there were always people.
The place was packed with people. If you can take a photo with only a few random bystanders in your shot - you are lucky.
So cool!
A different angle hides the people!
So many people!
This statue looks like it is wearing a palm tree hat.
And as much as I hate vertical photos - that's the only way to fit this tall stuff in the frame!
You have to look up and marvel at how they built things like this.
"Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I (reigned 1971–1926 BCE) in the Middle Kingdom (c. 2000–1700 BCE) and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom (305–30 BCE), although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. The area around Karnak was the ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut ("The Most Selected of Places") and the main place of worship of the 18th Dynastic Theban Triad, with the god Amun as its head." [source]
It's so people-y in here!
Hieroglyphics including cartouches.
I remember Yusef telling us that it was only the priests and holy men who were allowed in these spaces.
And here we were walking through them. Marveling in wonder at how something so magnificent could not only be built this way, but was still standing.
Our feet, moving through these spaces - are now part of its story. And it is part of ours.
It's people-y below- but it's not up top!
Obelisks of Hatshepsut
Fallen pieces - where did they fit?
Maybe part of this wall?
Not only was it crowdy, it was HOT HOT HOT!
Stone scarab on top of this one.
Everywhere I turned I was filled with wonder and amazement.
My feet. In ancient spaces.
Waiting for my group beyond the front gate - finding a less people filled space.
And then to "run the gauntlet" through the vendors mall - the only way out to the parking lot - where the a/c of our bus was waiting for us.
Later this evening we would visit the temple of Luxor at sunset - a beautiful sight.
Are these all starting to run together for you too? And I haven't even gotten to Ireland yet!
We got her!
Tuesday was a complete fail at getting Tula Lou to the vet for her antibiotic shot. She knew the gig was up as soon as she saw the crate.
I left the crate on the porch right where it was over the past few days and this morning when she was super hungry for breakfast, I put her food down, waited until she was fully engaged in consuming it, snatched her up, shoved her in and shut the door.
Oh, the indignity!
The good news is, the bad infection she had in her left hind leg that was also affecting the bones in her leg is healing!
The bad news is - little does she know that on the 22nd we've got to do it all over again for another appointment!
I trimmed some units!
After the house was made ready and beds were made, and I found myself with an hour before the expected arrival of the Pieceful Hearts gals - I grabbed some units that had been sitting and got them trimmed up and ready for the next step.
Sometimes It's just a small amount of progress that makes a day feel like a success. One hour.
But today is the first day in several days where I didn't have to run off in a car to some appointment and I am hoping for more sewing time today.
I'll take it!
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Every day is an adventure, if we look at it that way.
I’m about to go have me one - The Pieceful Hearts gals from SC/GA are in the house, many having arrived after I'd already gone home for the evening so I need to get over there to wish them welcome and good norming!
How are things looking for your own Thursday?

So happy to read about your daily happenings! So true about one hour of time - We can get so much done in just 30, 40, 60 minutes. Always feels like making progress!
Thank you so much, Bonnie, for all the pictures of your adventures.
Massive architecture that boggles my mind & I love the tour! Sue Ryckman 🇨🇦
We grew up in NYC. So the Southwest is so intriguing for us , but our son, who lives in Colorado once commented “If you’ve seen one red rock, you’ve seen them all.” All one color, so many shapes.
I am absolutely adoring every single post and photo you show of your Egypt adventures, and am so thankful you're willing to take the effort!
I LOVE all your adventure pics…thank you for posting them :)

Thanks for the tour pictures and inspiration quotes! I need more strips and 2” squares, and a binding on another Bonnie Hunter winter blue and white quilt! Today !
I am so enjoying traveling vicariously thru your pics! thank you so much for chronicling your trip. I do not get along well with high heat, so your pics are my trip to Egypt! Lolo!!
I don't think we'll ever make it to Egypt so I'm enjoying your pics. Too bad about the crowds.
Just got home from the Dr appt. Already hot out there.
Pics are gorgeous 🥰 temples and statues galore.
My head is spinning.
Will try to finish quilting my chilhowie today..
You're such a good Kitty Mama ❤️.
I'm just making a quick supper with Goulash.
Take it easy
Blessings 💞🙏
Those are slim slivers. They make a difference in the finished piecing though. Hurray for an hour of play on a busy day. It's good to see the names of the places you saw and got to visit there in the Ancient valley of stones. Great adventure!!
Thank you for pictures of the Egypt adventure. My knowledge of Egyptian history is paltry and you’ve tickled my need to read about that part of the world! Lois Kelly
These Egypt photos are great. Different from most I have seen of that space and time. Thanks for sharing.
Oh, Bonnie, your photos are simply fascinating! Thank you so much for them! The carvings are astonishing and so interesting. Your feet have been there! It's in you now! Such wonderful history. Thanks!
Try this on your Emily. Years ago we had several cats and were taking them to a reduced-fee, community clinic for their shots. My regular vet said to put each one in their own pillowcase, and take them out only to get their shot. They were so calm in the pillowcase and the shot was over before they knew what had happened. It must be the fact that they can't see where they are or are going. Who knew this hack for the use of a pillowcase would work?
Thank you for continuing to share your trip!! It just LOOKS hot in the pictures with that clear blue sky!! You are absolutely correct with that one hour at a time...sneak it in when you can!! :)
Today I am starting the donation quilts for my kiddos who are graduating this year. This is a special group as they were all freshmen when I started! WOW! We are also trying to beat the heat... and at least thinking about going back to school soon. UGH... happy THursday and I hope you sneak in some rest time as well!
Your pictures are amazing. Wouldn’t it be great if we could go thru those ancient places alone like they did back then?? Wondering if you were able to find any “Egyptian Cotton” or see any cotton fields where they grow that famous cotton.
When I was younger, Egypt was a place I really wanted to see. It's not going to happen now, so I am thoroughly enjoying your pics and info. Thank you
