Something Happening Here!

Well, I went and did it.

I emptied some totes full of UFO pieces, looked at some projects that weren't going anywhere and put the remaining fabric back into the stash while putting the completed-thus-far blocks into the orphan bin of pieces and parts that will become something at some time.

And then I opened up this tote:

OH!  So THAT'S where you've been hiding - since 2016?

And just what was the plan?

In 2016 I was in Traverse City, Michigan teaching - and was escorted to some antique malls on our off time, and I found and purchased this little child sized quilt of  6-point stars.

It's wonky and wobbly and  it is around here "SOMEWHERE" - or is it at the inn? I think it's at the inn.  On a quilt ladder in one of the bedrooms.  I THINK. (You know how it goes?!)

At any rate, I fell in love with the different colors in the centers of the blue stars, and of course my mind went to "What if I enlarged the blocks and made them out of strings?

It seems that I got as far as the blue and yellow, and then the project got set aside for something with a deadline.

The hubster had 2 tournaments on Saturday, one for archery in the morning, followed up by Corn Hole in the evening (Yes, Corn Hole has become a serious thing around here and he is ALL IN.) and he was gone from 8am to 11pm.

That left me with the dogs. ALL. DAY.

They don't mind a car ride - anywhere.  But they are not a fan of spending "too much" time inside the QPO, so I decided to work from home after filling mail order and feeding Lola and this bin came home to became the "must sew this now!" project in the cabin basement sewing studio.

There's nothing wrong with having a big project at home, and a big project at the office, right?

Now that I know how big these blocks are going to be I can do some figuring to find out what colors I want to do for the middles and how many blue/neutral string triangles I need to make.

But it's immediately going into time-out - I'm leaving for Arizona tomorrow morning.  It will be here when I get back.

A bit of community fun!

This is "The Grange" in Grant, VA.  It was a school in the 1930s - I'm not sure when it became the grange, but loads of community stuff happens here - it is used quite often.  It even has an internet center in it. it has a big kitchen and wide open rooms for different community activities.

Friends and neighbors, Jean & Gordon asked us if we wanted to go see a film about the New River and hear a bit of discussion on river conservation.

There would be snacks.

Absolutely!

This is a documentary that is showing on PBS.  If you subscribe to PBS it might be available for you to watch too.

The coolest thing was that it starts at the beginning of the New River, starting out where 2 creeks join near Blowing Rock, NC, through Ashe County, NC and then it arrived at Mouth of Wilson with quite a bit of history of the area being given -

AND - they show Quiltville Inn and the surrounding buildings from old black and white photos.  YAY!

If you like nature documentaries - this is something you might try to catch.

This morning's Sunrise on my 61st birthday -

Morning arrived with a skiff of snow and more falling.  It's snowing still - It's so pretty.

But we'll be parking the van at the bottom of the hill so I can head to the airport in the morning without any slick driveway problems.

My departure time is 7:30am!  

Needless to say there won't be a blog post tomorrow, but I'll catch up with you from Arizona on Wednesday.
