This is where we spent our Thanksgiving afternoon!
It has become kind of a tradition - going up to the Appalachian Trail that crosses through Grayson Highlands state part if the holiday weather is fair enough to do so.
I would say that 63 degrees on Thanksgiving Day is a rarity for these parts. Of all of the years I wished that my dad could be with us, this would have been the one.
One year ago he was helping Dave to load fire wood onto the side porch at Quiltville Inn in anticipation of our first beta test retreat that was in full swing at this time.
It makes this weekend kind of a weird first anniversary, doesn't it? I think the only word that I can use to describe how this year was derailed is WEIRD.
But this warm 2020 Thanksgiving? Weirdly wonderful!
Brilliant blue skies in cloudless glory.
I always think of winter as being colorless - but just look at what you see here. The rust colored brush and a bit of pine green - and I have to admit I am entranced by the scraggly leafless trees.
Ponies in the wild always add a touch of magic.

What a sweet baby!
Coats are getting shaggy for a cold winter ahead!
And this is what I mean by trees.
Barren and marvelous.
Long range views of the Blue Ridge take my breath away.
Our Blackstone hibachi dinner was scrumptious!
The food prep was minimally easy, the clean up even faster - Not shown on the grill yet are the shrimp - so delicious!
Settled in for a long evening of binding.
We watched Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix. The acting was superb! It's a tough subject to cover. Based on a true story, not all plotlines are easily presented. I thought this one was so well done.
And yes, there was pumpkin pie!
I was ecstatic last evening as I thumbed through our Quiltville’s Open Studio group on Facebook to see that so many were finished already!
This lovely array belongs to Janice R! Aren't they beautiful!
For those still jumping in to join us, you'll find all of the info under the Grassy Creek Mystery tab at the top of the blog. You'll find all of the yardage, tool and other pertinent information in the INTRO POST. Yardage is given for each color under each fabric photo.
It's all there - you just have to take the time to read, not skim.
Part 2 will be posted on December 4th.
And I have made the executive decision NOT to post on Christmas Day (The 4th Friday in December) but to push it a day to Saturday the 26th. Boxing Day.
I love it, Karen!
"I've worked all day on finishing this quilt top: Pine Tree Point. Now I can start on her new mystery quilt. I hope to get this one quilted on Sunday so I can hang it on the wall for December."

Mystery Season brings hours, days and weeks of anticipated clues and sewing! It can cause back/hip discomfort.

This is the time to be thinking of your holiday gift-giving to quilting family members and friends.
But remember - it's not just for sewing! Try it in the car for long trips. When we get back to life and can attend sporting events - think of bringing it for bleacher seating.
Your body will thank you!
So what is up for my Saturday?
This was MY Black Friday sewing while you were busy with Grassy Creek!
I got the last seam in this morning.
My plan is to wrangle up a backing, start on the machine quilting - and just putter in the QPO for the day.
I am taking this weekend in full relaxation mode. I have been counting down to #mediafreesunday as an extra bonus to my holiday weekend.
Have you thought of putting #mediafreesunday into your own life?
And what do you have in store for your Saturday ahead?
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
Very important to know! Don't give up on yourself or your dreams.
We'll catch you back here on Monday - have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

as always, thank you. Specially for the 'links' you add to make it so easy for us to "go here"! Love the photos as you share your world with us. Happy, joyful holidays... Cats in Carlsbad CA
I read your blog everyday and was so excited to open it this morning to see my picture of clue 1. I had so much fun making these and was happy it was an easy one so I can get them finished and get back to decorating. Thanks for all you do!
Such an awesome picture of Miss Ivy! She is so beautiful and such a sweetie with Zoey, hard to believe she was a stray. Your hibachi dinner made me hungry! Great job, Karen, on your pine tree quilt - :)
I have been enjoying your blog! I would love to see and enjoy the scenery you have in your neck of the woods.
All I lack is to cut 3 more sets and I'll begin to sew. So excited. I read a post on fb that some are making minitures. I thought this would be fun... but, maybe next year! Lol
Bonnie, you are such a sweet person and inspiring to a lot!
Have a great day!

Had to have an excavation of my sewing room to find the collection of grays that I knew I had. Found them, and a lot of other things as well!
Bonnie - thank you for sharing pictures of your hikes - love the long range view of the Blue Ridge mountains..... would love to see a quilt featuring this range of blues with some rustic wooden fencing thrown in! Looking forward to seeing everyone's mystery quilt creations!
Wonderful that you are giving yourself a media free Sunday and encouraging your readers to give it a try themselves. I'm thinking that this is adding years of enjoyment to your life. Sometimes it's the simplest things that have the biggest impact. I am way behind on all the projects that swim in my head. Some of them aren't even started yet. But that is okay. Keeps those little grey cells active. Thanks, Bonnie. Enjoy your Sunday.
I'll be finishing up most of my wrapping to ready for shipping on Monday. I still have a few gifts to make, so I hope to get them in the mail by the end of the week. thanks for all the wonderful posts, projects, and great positive energy you send us. Have a great weekend.
Love seeing the ponies! 💕💕 Thank you! Watching college football making my plethora of HST! 😁
I applaud your taking Sunday as a media free day. Thanks for sharing all you do with us. I am anxiously awaiting clue#2.
I love it when you go up to see the ponies! Zoey is such a good dog! Our little scoundrels would be barking like crazy! LO
In your blog it states -
"Sale ends midnight on Monday, November 29, 2020 and is also limited to stock on hand so hurry! (If they sell out, the sale ends, so don't wait!)"
Monday is the 30th - But I am going to guess the sale really does go through Monday?
Have a most wonderful Sunday!
Love the colors of your afternoon with the ponies. Hhmmm, maybe color combos for a future mystery quilt??
Beautiful pictures and that cute little pony in your video. Lovely that the weather is still nice enough for you to get out and enjoy the scenery.
Have a wonderful weekend
Stay safe
Love and quilty hugs

As always enjoy your blog but totally agree with taking a break to enjoy what's around you and to recharge. So glad you enjoyed Hillbilly Elergy. It was filmed in my town, Macon Ga! I'm looking forward to watching the movie and seeing familiar sites.
Wow! That picture of the blue ridge mountains really explains why they're called the blue ridge. Such a gorgeous blue gradient in that picture.
But what I really want to know is if the hibachi chef flipped a shrimp into their hat before serving dinner. :)
