This is irony!
The soundtrack in my head goes back to the 1990s and Alanis Morrissette's “Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think!” lyrics.
I was folding laundry and just chuckling to myself over this shirt that came home with me from Tokyo, purchased in January of 2019.
I loved that beautiful quilty looking logo – and seriously – who would have thought that something like a global pandemic named Covid 19 could even postpone the Olympics?
Yep. Isn’t it ironic?
And I am so glad that everyone is home and safe (hopefully) and it can be better in 2021.
As for the shirt, it gets comments wherever I go. And my response is usually something like “Best laid plans, and the universe laughs!”
Yesterday was a mission for many things.
The deck staining continues and now we are on to the hard part – the narrow spindles beneath the railing.
Small brushes were needed, and as I did a search to find out which direction I should be driving to obtain such brushes, I also searched for some other things that I am in desperate need of.
I get the toilet paper and paper towel shortage (which is much better now, thank you!) and disinfecting cleaners still being in limited supply – (has ANYONE found Clorox pop-up wipes back in stock yet?) But daily shower cleaner spray? It’s not a disinfectant. It doesn’t have bleach. It’s not even on the list of “limit one per person” items.
And I found it – by searching on line at Walmart.com. in Marion VA, about 40 miles away. But doable.
But the paint brushes were slim pickins!
I have a sneaking suspicion that there are many households out there with shrinking honey-do lists and much project progress all around the house and yard going on.
I found what I think will do the job –
And giving that “I don’t care” attitude when they say “excuse me” and are met with “You might wish to know you are going the wrong direction –“ Just bewildering. They act like YOU are an inconvenience, yet they are going the wrong way.
And I find myself repeating that oft thought question - "What is wrong with people?"
But I found these!
But still – the Cabin Fireside candle smells like Christmas Trees and spice and everything nice. The Warm Pumpkin Chai is just yummy.
I also found a couple of autumn centerpiece type things, and a fall wreath for the front door at Quiltville Inn and – I know those weren’t on the list but, you know?
And now my brain wants to dig into the fall colored fabrics and make some fall table runners and……
It’s a good thing we are never bored, right? Even with a pandemic, we can’t find enough time to do all the sewing we want to do!
7 string block foundations are ready for applique!
That is my saving sewing grace for the day.
To bring the smiles, there is this kind of play going on!

And Lola is coming around -
This is her usual antics, and it’s great to see her back at them on nearly ground level. And yes – she has gotten her body THROUGH the handle inside the bag. Silly girl.
We are pretty sure that we heard another kitten meowing down beyond the fence and into the weeds that lead down to the creek behind Quiltville Inn
We are wondering if it is a sibling to Ivy dumped at the same time?
We tried calling to it and meowing for it and we could never find it as it got dark out. It's on the other side of the barbed wire fence in the tall tall weeds on the adjacent property. We will be looking again, and harder during the daylight.
I hate to think of people dumping off unwanted pets, and hate the fact that this one could be out there lonely and scared and hungry, whoever it is.
It was hard to go to sleep last night thinking that Ivy’s brother or sister may still be wandering out there. And yes - another "What is wrong with people?!" creeps up to the top of my brain.
And the realization of – If we find him/her what do we do THEN!?
Time to order up the Crazy Cat Lady tee shirt.

I have to confess that sometimes in the grocery store, I am so stressed and so intent on getting in and out, that I forget the arrows at the ends of the aisles and just dive in to get what I need and get out. I do always wear my mask, but sometimes those arrows don't compute in my head. I always feel on high alert when I go shopping, so my mind is racing and I forget those arrows that we never had before.
Thank you for sharing your days and thoughts.
I really look forward to your daily posts. Thank you for your kindness in this too often cruel world.
Happy Saturday 😊. We haven't seen the Clorox wipes either. I heard they have them at Sam's Club. I don't have that card. I'll keep the Summer another month at least Fall is when the leaves turn, not yet! Always a good thought from you.
Great words of wisdom today, and yes to what is wrong with people, I am also a crazy cat lady, so many strays, I catch, have them fixed, and release, of course there is food out everyday for them and though most are feral once in a while I can pet them or capture early enough they become quilty kitties!!! My Clawdia torty being a perfect example, she loves the quilt making! Have a great day all you quilty friends!
I live in the country and there is a constant parade of dumped cats here. They all stay outside year round and do fine. I do feed and water them.
If you find more cats, hope that you might be able to find a home(s) for all these new animals. Surely...
I’m not a cat person, so crazy cat lady for you it might be.😊🤪
We recently found a great shower cleaner at Lowe’s. Use it once a week. Just spray, leave and rinse in next day’s shower. It’s called Wet & Forget. Best ever!
Dumping pets can cause serious problems. My neighborhood had cats which over a few years grew into a group of feral cats that attached pets. The worse was an attached on a little girl that ended in stitches from head to foot and shots for rabies.
Speaking of "What's wrong with people?" Yesterday I was in our local Walmart using the self-checkout. A lady was checking out her groceries with her mask under her chin, talking on her phone. I couldn't help but overhear her say that she had just come from the clinic and is waiting for the results of her Covid test. Seriously????
It is irritating to follow the direction yourself of the arrows in the store, then have others not, I usually just laughingly say oops your going the wrong way but mostly I don't get any response back. Maybe people these days are stressed, focused on getting in and out quickly, but still no need to disregard the rules. I suggested to a store clerk they should remind folks over the store speakers to follow the arrows but the clerk seamed to not care either. I'll sleep fine knowing at least I care and try to be safe when out and about.
I hadn’t been inside a large grocery store since mid March. I knew there were going to be arrows. I looked for them, tried to follow them and still remember where the items were that I needed. I think I was the only one! Even the young clerk, filling a Click List bin was going the wrong way down the frozen aisle! Good grief!
I try to follow the arrows but that means in some stores I have to walk looking down. Being one trying to get in and out of the store I forget. Apparently I am not the only one. Do you think that all this time is giving you more ideas for projects? Your life seems to be always busy and you are so positive. I love it.
Looks like Zoey & Ivy are becoming BFFs! I know what you mean about going the wrong way on a one way isle. This Covid situation has put us so on edge. Before Covid, I had more patience for people moving along with their carts, now I find myself being more legalistic. I am trying to be more "Grace" filled but it takes more effort. Sigh.....
Heard through the grapevine; Target puts out limited supply of Clorox Wipes first thing in the mornings. Then repeats on successive mornings. Might want to check it out. I may be doing same in a few days...
Thinking after the bear/squirrel prints in the deck that leaving kitty food out might not be a smart thing. Hope the kitty is found soon.
IF a news blurb I saw is correct, wipes are still in short supply because most of the materials used to make the wipe fabric is nearly all going to making masks. If I had to choose one, I'd rather have the toilet paper, but then I'm rarely away from home needing to sanitize anything, so soap and hot water works as well.
I confess, sometimes I'm one going the wrong way. Usually it's due to not seeing arrows because I'm focused on the shelves. Sometimes because the item I want is 5 feet down the aisle and it's a 50 foot walk to go the right way, especially if my hip is being a pain - but I do back out of the aisle again and only do that if no one else is in the aisle. But I'm always with the mask on.
Wait! Let us enjoy the summer and not hurry the fall which passes all to quickly into the never ending winter! Enjoy your weekend!
I agree. I don't look at the floor when I shop. They should have put them at eye level. The one other peeve I have about the arrows and one ways is that if someone is ahead of me going slow and I pass them, what is the difference if I would pass them the other way. The furbabies are so cute. It will come around and all will get along. Have a great day and weekend everyone.
I have finally found wipes, not Clorox, but they get the job done. I have not found any sprays at all. Why is there a shortage of pudding mixes? LOL Around here anyway. Have a great weekend!
I grocery shop EARLY in the morning, like 6 am early. The grocery store is basically empty and there is no worry about going the wrong way in aisles. Same way with Lowe's, I'm there when the store opens in the morning. I use generic cleaning supplies.
My daughter (she's a vet tech) has 5 cats and a German Shepherd. She's a soft touch for the strays, the cat who won't be adopted, and the fosters she winds up keeping. Riley (the dog) plays with one of the cats much like Zoey and Ivey. So glad people like you and she look out for God's creatures😊
I've just been looking at the wrong ways like a grumpy old woman. It's scary to say, these people are older and should know better (not necessarily older than me)I
I love that you are searching the other kitty. I hope you find her/him today. Hopefully this isn't a trend starting at your place! (But then there is probably no safer place than by a family who cares for and respect the lives of those who are dumped) Thank you for being there for them!
Hi Bonnie and Friends, A good sub for clorox wipes: cheap baby wipes with isopropyl alcohol added. They clean well and the alcohol disinfects. Personally I like them better then the clorox wipes.
Thank you for that good bit of wisdom this morning. It is a beautiful day here; I hope yours is, too. Your projects are beautiful, too, and should keep you busy enuff. I find I am my hardest taskmaster, my list too long. Did people really follow those arrows? I have not noticed any adherence here. And to be honest with you, at age 80+, it's all I can do to get around the store with my list --and find where they have moved the paper towels, etc-- without remembering to follow the arrows. The thing that really bugs me is the people who wear their masks long enough to get by the entrance guard and then take them off to shop. tsk Thank goodness for pretty kitties to take the mind off of current troubles.
I want the quilt underneath the T-shirt!
I lucked up finding Lysol brand wipes (prefer Clorox, but...) just as they were being stocked. The guy stocking the shelves told me it was the first they had got in months. When my sister-in-law shopped the next day the shelves were bare again. Best wishes for Ivy and her possible sibling. A person can never have too many cats! lol
That is such an great phrase and a good play on words.
Holy cow!
They have baby wipes in the Dollar Tree, but I didn't know that you could just add alcohol as a disinfectant. Thanks for the tip.
That tee shirt might end up being worth a fortune some day. I really hope you find that other kitty.
great idea
Thank you Bonnie for sharing your thoughts, and animals. I’m not sleeping well myself....thinking about all of the “lost ones” in all of the animal kingdom. Just don’t be mean really resonates in my soul. Love to all of you from Northern California.
I think our local small grocery store must do the same with Lysol spray. I've never seen more than one can on the shelf at a time. The last time I saw the Clorox wipes was March 12th in a Menards store & snagged one then.
I use that also:Wet and Forget It, Shower...I've noticed I can't find the daily shower spray cleaner here either, though...
I actually ordered my Wet It product from Amazon (through Bonnie's portal)
Walmart has big signs on both sides of the aisle and people still don't care. I drive my car right down the center
With stash still 4368 miles from me for maybe another month. I am so looking forward each day to your blog to encourage me keep me positive and inspire.
My green jamestown landing from Shipshuana, dancing 9 patch and Frolic are calling me to get home. Please keep your postings coming
Stay safe and keep those furry friends in the photo shoots.
Our local Family Dollar store had Clorox wipes a few weeks ago. They are kept behind the counter. I was out in the store asking for Lysol spray and the teenager was so proud of himself he was beaming for ear-to-ear "No, ma'am, we don't have Lysol spray, but we have CLOROX WIPES at the register!". He was so happy!
God bless your kind heart Bonnie!
Have you tried the dollar store for your bathroom cleaner? I get mine there all the time and have not had a shortage problem. I know different areas probably carry different products but I wanted to give you the suggestion, I find a lot of things at the $ store that I never expected to find. I even found pony tail elastic in plenty of supply for making masks. Have a Great Day and hope the other kitty is ok. I agre with you on "whats wrong with people" , sometimes i wonder if they have any brains to use.
Pam, I wondering the same thing about the pudding mix here in northwestern Ohio. What else can they be doing with it?? LOL
I went to the grocery store last week for the first time since March. I only needed a few things and my eyes are on the shelves or the high-up signs that tell me what is in each aisle, never on the floor. I went the wrong way, of course, but there was no one else in the aisle. They need to put the arrows up on the signs that hang from the ceiling as well as at eye level on the shelves. I know it is a pain for them, but some of us just don't go in the stores often enough to remember the arrows on the floor. I'll try to do better the next time I have to shop!!
Haven't read all the comments, but IF you do find another kitty, perhaps a mouser for the inn is in order.
Stores sometimes have products but you need to ask for it. This happened all the time with TP; none on shelf but ask upfront at the service desk and they would get it for you. Good luck!
Bonnie- I look forward to your daily posts. I don't know why people don't care that they are going the wrong way on one way aisles in stores. It must be the same people that don't think COVID19 will get them, so they don't have to be careful about spreading it to other people too.
I Hope you find the other kitty down by the fence/ creek. And no, you won't be the "Crazy Cat Lady". My neighbor has you beat. She has five cats and one large dog in a little 2 room cabin w/ a loft. You have at least a couple places you can spread them out. And maybe they will catch vermin in the summer like mine do, when they get outside.
Happy Sunday, tomorrow!

I do hope you find the other kitty - daylight is better to see. Unfortunately leaving food out just brings the things you don't want!
Lovely seeing them getting along and Lola relaxing means progress.
I agree - am shocked by the amount of selfish, belligerent attitudes of people.
They've apparently given up on the arrows here in CA. All the stores that had them have removed them. I never saw anyone paying any attention to them, except me. :)
It’s people like that who are spreading this virus, they just care about themselves so selfish 😢
Just love how ZoeyJo is looking after Ivy so cute, and Lola in the bag too cute.
I hope you can find the other cat, it really is shameful that people just discard pets like rubbish! So sad when all they need to is take them to a shelter where they would be cared for.
Stay safe
Love and quilty hugs
Anne xx
I try to follow the aisle markings. Only two stores in my small town have them. I finally figured out that they are opposite colors. One has red arrows and green wrong way signs and the other has green arrows and red wrong way signs...no wonder I mess it up!
I am so with you on the arrows. Our Meijer store had huge ones for a while and my husband who is blind in one eye didn't even see these. Funny! However, my pattern for shopping in Meijer is to go to the back and work my way forward. Guess what! The arrows go the way I do. It is nice when people follow them and you can get down the aisle quicker. I can't handle masks so I am only good for a half hour before I have to get some fresh air. Thanks for your blog and the encouragement it brings to others. Hope you find the other cat.
Costco had the clorox wipes!
Love reading your blog! And the replies. I especially like when the people that reply say where they’re from! I find it fascinating that they are from all over the world!
I’m from close by in Pennsylvania.
I can share my "crazy Cat Lady" signs with you. I live in an area where lovely sweet cats just show up. I have 2 indoor, 3 only outdoor, sleeping in heated houses in the garage, 2 in and out. I too often think, Am I the only one who cares or reads signs like one way? Glad to know of others who can't turn their backs on creatures that others abandon or haven't neutered.
What is the quilt pattern in the background of your Tokyo 2020 shirt? Is it one of yours? Thank you!
I’m a rule follower, but I forget the arrows are there. I am such a lover of my furbabies, and they exist to teach us how to love. I can’t imagine throwing them out! Breaks my heart!
I get that there are short supplies for cleaning - we just started to be able to get alcohol a couple of weeks ago - but I don't understand some of the food shortages. My niece can't find pudding mix; I couldn't find refrigerated rolls for a few weeks a while back; and now it's decaf tea - it took 4 weeks to finally find it!
I buy mine at ACE Hardware, love it.
