Don’t let the Austrian sunlight fool you!
It’s frigid cold out here!
But with a lot of walking, some long-johns and wool socks, warm boots, hats, scarves, gloves and glühwein, all is well!
And we even found a fabric store – score!
All the holiday lovelies were right on display -
We couldn’t resist!
The colors in Innsbruck are delicious.
And we kept moving to stay warm!
One of the things I remembered from the last time I was here was the amazing displays of story book characters high up on walls as you enter the pedestrian area of town.
You’ve got to look UP or you’ll miss them!

it was a great day!
Lunch at a local gasthaus!
Yummy!
This was a delicious broth with a corn meal dumpling (As close as I can describe it) and it was followed by the main entree, sliced pork roast in a delicious sauce with rice on the side. All for 7 euro?? Perfect!
The best bargain in the gasthaus is to just order whatever the kitchen has as their special of the day – you’ll experience something new, your taste buds and belly will thank you, and so will your wallet!
And you’ll get used to having photos with hat hair!
Street scene with public transport!
And as the day wore on, the sun burned through the clouds!
And the mountains were OUT!
Magnificent!
Churches with onion domes. Such a favorite sight!
Displays of nutcrackers in a market stall.
Everywhere you turn – it is just stunning!
Still life: Glühwein in the Alps.
And that sun in the afternoon -
The golden hour provided the best photography light!
Innsbruck, Austria. Amazing!
Especially at Christmastime.
I am loving this group of fun gals (and gents!) so much!
While we are not doing Mystery Monday Link-Up type posts while I am out of the country (It’s just too much to manage, trust me!) I do want to invite everyone over to instagram to check out our mystery-specific tags!
There are SO MANY SHARES HAPPENING!
If you are new to Instagram, where we are sharing our progress through hash tags – all you need to do is type #quiltvillemystery and #frolicquilt and the linking is automatic within your post. For those not on Instagram, you should be able to just clicked the linked tags above and visit the page and scroll and see what other people are up to. Instagram is a great way to start an online journal of your progress. It’s easy and it’s free. You must have a smart phone or tablet to post to Instagram, it doesn’t work from regular computers – the only downside.
Today we are off to Oberammergau! Another day, another Bavarian Adventure!
Quiltville Quote of the Day -
The learning curve is long and sometimes makes a wide swing in either direction but stick with it!

So we get a aurprise clue, or it comes at Friday EST. Not Europe Friday?
Ladys, it's nice to know that you're so close to Germany while we're working on our annual Mystery. Have fun and maybe there are also some Dirndl-Shops for you? Enjoy your adventures and the beautiful journey.
Just be patient. It is what it is and will get here when it does. Enjoy the trip.
LOVE the pictures!!! Thank you.
Such a great quote today! I am trying to challenge myself to learn new techniques and improve on the old. It's a good feeling!
The frescoes on that one building--coats of arms. Did you notice the dates underneath? 1654...1625...1414...1386! Not that the buildings are that old, but the families those heralds belong to. Austria is very proud of its heritage. And the breathtaking beauty! wow! Enjoy!
I love the pastel colored buildings. So, so pretty in the sunshine.
Was there a couple of years ago but, thank heavens, in the summer. The cold would've been too much for me!! It is truly beautiful there.
Beautiful like all the colourful buildings and those storybook characters on the walls are just delightful. Have fun and thank you for sharing with us all.
Love and quilty hugs
Anne xx
My mother has never been out of the UK, but my grandparents used to travel - they brought her a beautiful music box like a large Swiss chalet type of house with a water wheel. It still works and the tune is The White Horse Inn. I actually had to get her to remind me of the music - I remember it so clearly but the name escaped me! LOL! Thank you for the virtual tour, it is a beautiful place!
Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures. I hope you found a sewing themed Nutcracker !!!!
So enjoying all of your pictures you are sharing. This would be a dream come true to visit all of the places you are going to.
