I have a friend I met through Facebook – who lives up here in Mouth of Wilson, and I haven’t met her in person yet!
i am hoping to, very soon.
From what I understand there is a group of ladies that meet once a week at a local diner for coffee and chat, and I want to join in so badly. I believe it’s Thursdays – and I’m usually not here on Thursdays.
This week I came up on Friday (Dentist appointment) and leave on Wednesday to fly out to Arizona. Once again – I am missing Thursday morning with the Mouth of Wilson Girls.
Soon. Hopefully soon.
Jackie posted a link to an article on my Facebook wall with aerial photos taken by drone of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia – with Quiltville Inn, my post office and old General Store in plain sight.
This is it, folks, the entirety of the town. No Starbucks, no Walmart, no rush hour, not even a Dollar General - just miles and miles of rolling green Blue Ridge Mountains – Oh, how I love these Virginia Highlands!
The amazing drone photos capture a storm as it moves through – isn’t this remarkable?
Sky and fog covered mountain ranges.
Close up.
Once a thriving mill town, this really IS all that is left. But tucked behind, in and amongst all of these hills and valleys are communities of folks who call this area home, and one by one, bit by bit, I plan on meeting people, making friends, and becoming a part of what this area is made of.
Christmas tree farms on hillsides.
Another view from about a year ago -
I need to contact him about getting a hi res file of the photo at the top of this post – for printing and framing at Quiltville Inn.
Pretty in my cupboards!
Yesterday was a “gentle” day. A day to be gentle with myself. I unboxed, washed, dried and placed items on shelves and in drawers in the Quiltville Inn kitchen. I used the new dish towels to dry.
I fell in LOVE with these bowls when I first saw them at Costco, each one having a fun colored and patterned INSIDE as well as the outside. Quilty Bowls. They are now sitting atop clean shelf liner and waiting for everything from cereal to soup to stir-fry to ice cream and beyond.
I hope they will be used and used often!
The 4-slice toaster is out of the box and on the counter. The 12 cup coffee maker, the crock pot, (I need one more...) colanders, pizza pans and cookie sheets – everything finding a place to land on shelves with new liner.
I need more liner!
My Magnolia Barn Quilt is how hanging in welcome!
Here Sadie waits for a local friend’s arrival – I met Martha at the luncheon meeting of the local quilter’s guild a couple of months back. She doesn’t live far. She’s lived here for more than 20 years and knows EVERYTHING about the area. An email came in on Saturday evening asking if I would be up for a drop by. "Yes, oh yes! Please come!"
And she came – with fresh baked scones, homemade peach/cardamom jam and iced tea (Yes, that’s how we do tea and scones in the summer in the south!) and we sat and rocked on the front porch and talked and talked and talked a blue streak.
I so loved sharing the INSIDE of the house with her as much as the outside. And she told me of little places for antiquing all around the area that are a “must see!”
I can see us becoming fast friends – and just when my heart was feeling heavy, here come these angel friends for visits, bringing hugs and kind words. I'm not alone in my grief. I am surrounded by those who understand and care.
Yes, there are angels amongst us, every day.
Uh oh, who left the gate open??
As I was coming up my road headed home to the cabin, this beast was on the left side of the road, and as I slowed, just moseyed on over to the other side, where evidently – the grass is ALWAYS greener!
And there she goes --- LOL!
Someone is going to have a surprise when they open their front door!
While the Carolinas prepare to be slammed by Hurricane Florence (Latest news as of this post HERE.) we are considering the possibility of flying to Arizona on Wednesday instead of Thursday should Delta send us notification that we may change our travel plans. We are playing the waiting game right now.
This far inland in Virginia we are likely to get high wind and rain, and I’ll be taking all of the porch furniture into the garage until I return.
Quiltville Quote of the Day!
I was watching Blue Bloods last night while stitching on a binding that seems never ending.
This line from the show hit me where it needed to.
It's what's you do next that counts.
What will YOU do next?

Sounds like you had a little slice of heaven...good for you
Prayers for safe travels and calm weather. Love your little slice of heaven in the country. Thanks as always for sharing.
Nice to have company and comfort food. I love Blue Bloods. Glad the binding is getting worked on, slow and steady. It's my favorite part while watching TV. Praying that your flight plans work out. Fly safe!
Breakfast, third Thursday of the month at Sarah's Fox Creek General Store at 8 a.m. :-)
Love you and your heart Bonnie. Been praying for you and your Momma and Dad and all. Can't go wrong watching Blue Bloods. I love them all. I've told my husband this Halloween I want him to be Commissioner Reagan and I'll be his Baker! Take care of yourself Bonnie.

Safe travels. Love the pics! Hubby and I have a trip planned to Boone and surrounding areas next week, so here's hoping Florence doesn't make a long stay.
Sometimes when you need an angel you find one in a friend.
I just made some pumpkin scones - wish I was close enough to drop by with a couple for you!
The pictures are awesome, no wonder I love blue/green and purple/green together ;) Another wonderful saying, safe travels.
Watching the weather station and thinking of you, Bonnie. Our annual "Girls' Week Away to the Outer Banks" is set for the first week of October, so I'm hoping no hurricane cancels it for us!! Keeping you close at heart, my dear. Please know that. Fondly, Karen Sebor, Chardon OHIO snowbelt of Lake Erie kgsebor2@windstream.net
Huge Dittos to this and many other posts. You are SO not alone!
Bonnie, I saw this in an article I was reading today and I immediately thought of you and your family and wanted to share it with you. I’m still keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
“It will tear you open like nothing else. It’s painful and it’s heartbreaking on levels deeper than you may have ever experienced,” he continued. “So don’t judge your grief, or try to rationalize your way around it. Let it flow in the waves in which it comes, and allow it it’s rightful space. And then… once you’re able… try to recognize the beauty in how you put yourself back together differently than you were before.”

Those drone photos are amazing!
Renee, Thank you for sharing this beautifully written sentiment. My mom passed away in March just 3 days after being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She went to hospice, alert and joking, the day after diagnosis and was gone in two more days. It was so sudden and devastating and I have been judging whether or not I had grieved enough or if I was being an ungrateful daughter resulting from a difficult relationship with her. I totally lost it all evening yesterday which would have been her birthday. I guess that is a wave that James mentioned. Posting this writing has given me so much comfort and I appreciate that you shared this, even though it was meant for Bonnie. I think there may be many others who will benefit from this as well. Thank you, Karen Eddy from Allen (Dallas) Texas.
Wow! Those photos are amazing! And wonderful to be surrounded by such lovely people. xx
I look forward to reading your blogs every morning with my coffee. The quote of the day was perfect. Loved it.
What a beautiful place you have found! I am so intrigued by this Quiltville Inn journey. But I chuckled at the thought you may have exposed your wee bit of heaven to Dollar General! My blessings go with you during this grieving time.
I feel and understand your grief as I go back to Idaho to help care for my brother who is very sick. He has been a loner most of his life and now refuses to see a Dr. Is his cancer back? Is the diabetes out of control? My 87 year old Mom needs help to care for him and I’m it. This will be so hard for her as she will have buried 3 of her 4 children. I’ve packed enough material for several quilt tops to sew while there. Reading about your strength through your loss helps me. Safe travels
