Yesterday’s snow event is already past!
I’m glad I got some pretty photos as by yesterday afternoon there was barely a skiff of the white stuff to be seen, mostly in places where the “sun don’t shine”.
This morning the sun is shining brightly, and though temps are hovering at 19 degrees (brrrrr!) there really is no snow to speak of.
I’m glad I stayed at the cabin an extra night though!
Mona and I sewed all afternoon – or more like SHE sewed, and I pressed, cut and kitted up.
She is doing GREAT at the treadle and was very impressed with herself and said. “I only sewed backwards TWICE the entire afternoon!” HA! That’s progress for you!
I told her that while it feels like you are patting your head and rubbing your tummy and watching your feet do a little dance all at the same time, eventually you stop thinking about your feet and the motion just becomes natural.
She looks like a natural to me!
Her big scrappy 9 patches are perfect treadle-learning blocks!
These large 9 patches will be sliced and diced into a “Disappearing 9 Patch” and is being put together for her step-son, Ryan.
An extra special gift, as he was thoughtful enough to gift her with several charm packs worth of squares for Christmas! Pretty good for a guy who knows nothing about quilting. So she is putting them right to good use and including them back into the quilt she will gift HIM next Christmas. And have fun while doing it.
Since all charm squares are not an exact 5’’, we are squaring these first to 4 1/2’’ so the 9 patches measure 12 1/2’’ before we slice and dice them down.
I spent the day at the Accuquilt Studio!
Red & neutral scraps being processed into strips.
I’ve got a plan for these!
I’ll be telling you more about these tomorrow as part of a special project!
Evening Binding Time!
The binding on “Oh, My Stars!” is coming along – not quite half way yet, but I’m in no hurry.
Since we finished watching all of the NCIS episodes available on Netflix, we’ve started back on Leverage. It’s quick and entertaining and if you don’t pay attention you might miss something, so I find myself stitching slower with this one, and paying more attention to the plot! Fun series if you haven’t watched it. I love it when the good guys win, and the bad guys get theirs!

Quiltville Quote of the Day!
I have always enjoyed Mondays as the week stretches out untouched before me and I can make of it what I will! What will you begin today? Little nine patch quilt made as Leaders & Enders by me, in the year 2000.
Several have asked if they can save the Quiltville Quote of the day, use it on their blogs, facebook, and even guild newsletters.
YES PLEASE! I want you to use them wherever they will do the most good and inspire others to make their own little corners of this world a better place. My objective is to inspire! So yes, you can save the images, post them wherever you wish!
I also post them to Pinterest, so you can find them easily by clicking the Quiltville Quotes tab at the top of the blog.

I’ll be heading home after breakfast, stuff to take care of, but my plan is to be back up here on Thursday evening for my own birthday weekend. I’ve loved having this extra bit of wiggle room in January, as the rest of my year is going to be cram packed.
I’ll catch you from home – have a great Monday, everyone!

You make learning to use the treadle sound so easy. I guess the 2 in my dining room need to get put to work. I am going to post a notice at my guild asking for a "treadle tutor" ! I really want to use them, but don't even know where to begin. You really inspire me. I will keep "big squares" in mind when I get started. (I would so much rather cut my own then waste money on poorly cut pre-cuts. This is a common problem, especially with jelly rolls. I use a "shape cut" and enjoy the cutting). Thanks for your inspiration every day. www.stitchinggrandma.wordpress.com / Mary
I have both a treadle and a hand crank machine that I have never used because I don't know the first place to start! Wishing for a sewing machine angel expert to break into my house soon. :):):)

Oh something Red and Neutral!!!! Yummy
You are so so right about the treadle motion becoming natural and like rocking on a porch swing (wish I had one). Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing your quilty quotes. I am going to send our guild newsletter editor the link.
Love Leverage! My daughter got me hooked a couple years ago in one of the big snow storms - we have watched them all together a couple of times now. Enjoy!

Yay! I am ready to join you on the upcoming project. I cut LOTS of red and neutral strips preparing for Allietare! Hope they are the right size. I'll be celebrating a family birthday on the same day as yours. Early happy birthday to you, Bonnie.
I used to sew on my treadle all the time. Now there is not room in my sewing room. Need to work out a rearrangement that will leave me room to sew at it. For those of you anticipating getting to use yours, remember the first think they will likely ned - in addition to a belt - is a good cleaning and oiling.
To Simply Begin - ah, that's what I've been doing wrong !
A trek of a 1000 miles begins with one small step! Same when we hut our 'wall' --- somehow if we can take that ONE step, we begin the journey.

My word of the year Finish, and this is the perfect quote to go with my motto. Thank you so much. I have added it as a sidebar on my blog. Thank you so much.
I love sewing on my treadles; for some strange reason it is much more relaxing than the electric. Maybe it's the quiet and the rhythm. I sew a lot on a hand crank, too -- great accuracy and no slower than piecing on an electric.
Thank you Bonnie for sharing such inspiring information, I have just recently found your blog and look forward to your e-mails. I acquired a beautiful treadle machine from my grandmother when she passed 5 years ago, she pieced on this machine until the day before her passing at 96 years young. I, like quite a few of your readers, would love to learn how to use a treadle, do you think in one of your quilt cams or maybe just a video on how to move your feet, can be on your "TO DO LIST"? Again, thank you for sharing all you do, it is sure enjoyable to watch you and read your posts. Bobbie
I just got a treadle machine - and still learning to not go backwards! I was trying and trying, and then my Mom, who is 84, was visiting with me, and she sat down and was treadling away like she had done all her life (although she did learn on one). Needless to say, I was envious and proud of her at the same time.
I love the pics and projects you are working on during your time at the cabin. Sew glad you and Mona spent time treadling together. I really like seeing what she is working on too. Inspiration is everywhere. Again, your quotes hit the nail on the head each day! Hugs, Allison in Plano, Texas USA
