On a Lovely Christmas Morning...

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I’m up at the dining room table typing a quick post while the men folk are down stairs reviewing yesterday’s adventures in ATV riding, all recorded on go pro camera.

The warmer weather up here has given them time to enjoy being out on the mountain, thus giving me time to squeeze in a little stitching of my own.  A gift of time to myself that I didn’t think I’d have.  I was okay with that, and then when time opened up for me to sit down and treadle a bit while they were out and about, I grabbed it.

It’s been an easy Christmas here.  A late start to the morning with everyone waking up at a normal hour –so much better than when the boys were little and up at 4am because they were so excited about Christmas they couldn’t stand it.  Yes, I miss those times, I cherish those times, but sleep is a luxury and a gift as well!

Breakfast will start as soon as I get this sent off, and following breakfast I’ll start preparations for our Christmas dinner.  This year is also simple.  I’ve got a spiral honey ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, rolls, salad and pumpkin pie.  With there just being the four of us for Christmas this year, this will leave enough leftovers as it is!

I also did some of this!

This might look like a disaster to you, but I have been wanting to do this for SO LONG!  I have boxes of random scraps that have not been tamed down yet.  I haven't had time.  The boxes contain odd hunks and chunks and pieces and parts that will work so much better if I can just cut them down into strips.

But first things first.  Dump the pile on the floor and start sorting into color families.  That is the first step for me.  Anything narrower than 2'' went into the big blue tub as the Quilt Villa String Bin.  When Mona gets back from Ohio, we are going to have oodles to play with!

Family Holiday Movie Night!

Home Alone!

I have to tell you, I've been watching this movie every Christmas for 25 years --and I NEVER paid attention to the scene with the treadle machine in the parent's bedroom!  Did you notice it?  I took this picture so I could biggie size it....that treadle head is just sitting on top of the cabinet at an odd angle, no belt attached.  LOL.

And then there was the basement scene:

Anyone recognize this machine?

In previous years I never stopped to think about where all the manikins came from in the one scene that made the house look like a party was going on.  I guess the mom was a seamstress.

Hey, I'm quick -- it only took 25 years to put this together!

Two tired pups!

This is how things are here...Son on the floor, so Sadie takes the couch! LOL!

Oh!  I almost forgot!  Have you watched the Great Christmas Light Fight show?  This year the winner was my brother's neighborhood in Gilbert, AZ!

How they got all of the houses to have their lights in sync is beyond me.  This clip doesn't show the interviews, but I have a funny story:

My brother Mark, my sis in law Sharolyn, nephew Spencer and niece Ashley!

Son Jason and his girlfriend were watching the full version on TV (Her idea, not his -- he was rolling his eyes, I'm sure!) and up comes a clip with my brother, and Jason took notice and said "Hey!  That's my uncle Mark!"  Jenny was of course saying "No, way!"  But it was.  Just a bit of a family chuckle there! I hope you enjoyed the clip.

I looked out the window this morning to find glowing pink clouds after a rainy stormy night. What a beautiful sight to behold on Christmas morning with my family.

Merry Christmas indeed, everyone!

Wow, great video! How great that your brother lives in a neighborhood that knows how to work together! Loved Trans Siberian Orchestra's " Wizards in Winter" music at the beginning! Going to see them Sunday in Pittsburgh! Can't wait, it's a yearly tradition! Melody

Love the sewing machine references in Home Alone. They're obviously not ready to sew on either, as you noted on the one in the bedroom, and as the one in the basement is snuggled up next to a post! Good catch on those machine sightings!

Noticed you have three comments from Elaines. Bet we're all baby boomers. I'm a 1951 vintage in Illinois.

We watched the show on the Light Fight Christmas Eve waiting for my Grandkids to fall asleep so Santa could do his magic. It was indeed a good show and Comstock did deserve to win! Small world that your brother was one of the winners.

Thanks for the video. I always find it amazing the time and creativity that people put in at Christmas when it comes to decorating with lights. Merry Christmas Bonnie

Funny you picked up on both machines. 25 years of Home Alone!! And Wow! Loved the light show! Watched it while stitching a clue! Had never seen anything like it before but it was awesome --- how 1 neighbor would bring everyone together creating an entire and very special street to live on as they became 1 big family was more than impressive! I'm thinking your brother had the hot air balloon for the judge? Like I said, it was mesmerizing and that's probably why my clue did not get finished! And to think it was your brother's fault! LOL Glad you and the family had a Merry Christmas!

Going to have to watch Home Alone again. We watched Die Hard and Die Hard 2 Christmas Eve while last minute wrapping in the quiet before the next day's wonderful family chaos. That started after noon on Christmas. I do love that sleeping in and having all the kids and grandkids home. (but sleeping at someone else's house)

Love the light show clip. I'd have been like Jason giving the show the eye roll but entertaining to see the winning neighborhood entry. How fun to see your brother and his family holding the neighborhood trophy. I too admire the technical organization and cooperation, but grateful for this year's white Christmas in Idaho and sunny blue skies today, I smugly think: what else can people in Arizona do to create a Holiday atmosphere? light extrvaganza beats Mall Wars.
