Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Volume 12! Give-Away!!

20151116_102237

This drawing has ended.  Congrats to our lucky winners!

Look what has just been released this week!

It’s volume 12 of Quiltmaker Magazine’s 100 blocks by 100 designers!

Check news stands and book stores near you, and ask for it!

Every issue of 100 blocks by 100 designers is chock full of ideas for inspiration, including colors, fabrics, block designs and unlimited possibilities!

This is my 11th issue, and I have loved each and every block I have submitted and admit to having grandiose plans of turning each of my blocks in to “REAL QUILTS” some day --

Will that ever happen?

I hope so!

Because every time I thumb back through a previous issue and come across that block, it yells out to me “MAKE ME!!”

This issue is no different.

I’m happy to present to you my block, Joyeaux!

20151116_102321

My block is found on the cover, top row – and on page 48!

Joyeaux

Joyeaux!

I mixed loads of scrappy neutrals with some repro prints, and added in several pieces of recycled shirt fabrics for this classic look.

This block was inspired by an antique quilt in my collection, a lovely shredded beauty from the 1800s.

littlemtstar1

Original quilt!

littlemtstar4

Original red/green block

littlemtstar3

Alternate green/red block

littlemtstar2

One maverick blue/red block!

I wanted to change the block to suit my way of construction, so I altered the corners and included a cornerstone to bring more accent color into the block.  I would like to think that the original maker of this quilt would approve of my changes!  After all, she was the one who stuck in the maverick blue/red block into a green/red quilt in the first place!

And just to show you what you can do with this one simple block, I’ve come up with 3 IDEAS for you!  ((IDEAS –no patterns available!))

joyeauxrunner

Simply a 3 block table runner!

This one would measure about 17’’ x 41’’

Do you have time to make this before Christmas?

joyeauxonpoint

13 blocks on point with sashings!

This would measure about 68’’ square.

joyeauxstraightset

Blocks set together without sashings.

42 blocks set 6 X 7 with borders will give you a quilt about 83’’ x 95’’.

I have so many ideas for this lovely block!

So let’s do that giveaway thing.

20151116_102255

Giveaway!

I will be drawing for TWO winners!  One winner will receive a copy of 100 blocks, Vol 12 directly from the offices of Quiltmaker Magazine!

Our second winner will be receiving a signed copy by me, and I’ve sweetened the deal by including a free pattern for String Lash by Gudrun Erla of GE Designs, and a Kona solids charm pack in neutrals!

I liked seeing the antique quilt. This summer I found an interesting quilt with original 30s fabrics duct taped over a workbench covering stuff the owners didn't want us to see or think was for sale during a garage sale. I talked with the owners telling about the fabric, color, it's value, and asking about the history of the maker. Although it didn't have a price tag, my husband whispered to me "well, there goes your chance of offering $5.00 for it." We later went back to take a photo of it and it was nicely folded and put on a shelf by the door. Lesson learned. kthurn@bektel.com
