Jan/Feb Quiltmaker! Give-Away!!

d4675a2a-4919-4341-9716-455042da388e
Heads Up Notice!  There WILL Be Quilt-Cam from the cabin at 2pm Eastern TODAY!

Set your alarms and be ready with a project!  This is the first time I am broadcasting from the cabin, and I’m excited to give it a try!

Those folks at Quiltmaker are really on the ball!

I was astonished to find EARLY copies of the Jan/Feb issue in my mail box…and you know what that means?

They always send some extra so I can pass them on to YOU!

I know, I know, I know – you are whining that you don’t even have the Christmas decorations out yet, and here we are pushing January/February of NEXT YEAR?

I used to feel panicky about that too, but when it comes to quilting, we need TIME to make the things we want to make.

You know what I also love?  February means Spring is right around the corner, and while I constantly try to find things about Winter that I love ((and some things I do)) I am not a big fan of cold and dark and miserably icy.  So anything that brings pink and springy into view is good by me!

What will we find in this issue?

20151123_142153

SO Many Goodies!

I actually went over to the Quiltmaker.com site to see what graphics they had up that I could use for this post – and we are so early there aren’t any!  So this is your sneak preview with the magazine open on top of my cutting table.

20151123_142217

My Addicted to Scraps column!

This month the Addicted to Scraps block is called Folded star.  It’s a 9’’ block ((Yes, we went bigger!))  that comes together easily using half square triangles and combination half square and quarter triangle  units. This is a fun one to play with – and using different light/medium/dark fabric values will give you that 3D folded effect.  If you’ve got some layer cakes around – they are just the right size to use in these blocks!

Some of my favorites from this issue:

20151123_142238

Oh my gosh, so cute!  Family of Three!

20151123_142317

Itty Bitty Blocks turned into pillow covers.

Who can resist foundation pieced log cabins so tiny?

20151123_142345

Be still, my scrappy lovin’ heart!

20151123_142140

Quiltmaker is the only magazine I subscribe to now.....I wasn't reading any of them .....except for Quiltmaker...so I decided to keep it and let the others go. This is a great give-away for a newbie or someone who hasn't tried it yet. I find the Addicted to Scraps page first and then check the other articles. Thanks for giving someone the chance to learn about the wide world of quilters.

So excited about this year's mystery. Right now my sewing room is completely packed up for the next two weeks as new floors are getting installed. Clue 1 is done, but I'm already in withdrawal. Have a few small projects I can work on. And, if I can get to my treadle I can do some strings. But, a new magazine to drool over would be a nice distraction!

Really great Magazine I have been collecting it for years. I am think that the modern quilt movement should really be the Contemporary Quilt movement.
I found this explanation on-line and thought at what point is something considered no longer modern. What say you.
While modern art runs up until around the 1960s or 70s, contemporary art is used to refer to that created from this time up until the present day. Anything that is created now or has been produced recently, is referred to as contemporary art and there are many different styles of creation under this heading. There are many contemporary art galleries that feature the work of current artists, who are still creating pieces now and contemporary art is still evolving.
