My fingers are crossed that we can get Quilt-Cam to be functional today!
I’ve tested…a different computer. All systems seemed to be go. Then Son Jeff said he could make it “work better” if he made my external camera DEFAULT on the newer laptop.
Okay. Will it work? I don’t know!
I’m kind of one of those if it ain’t broken, don’t change it!
Like I said…we will try! I’ve felt jinxed most of December, so…let’s hope THAT streak is over!
This lovely Singer 301 machine belongs to Kathy in Victoria, BC!
She writes:
“Hi from Kathy in Victoria, BCIt looks perfectly good to me, Kathy!
String piecing along wth you tonight Bonnie on my 301A. Gosh I need practise on sewing a straight seam, yikes.”
String piecing is one of my favorite things to do with all of the never ending leftovers we end up with. I ALWAYS have at least one kind of string piecing project going, just to get the most out of those precious scraps.
I’m back working on my String Spider Web today. I want it big..and it needs to be done before I go to Alaska in May! So the crunch time is on to push this from Quilt-Cam Project to finished quilt.
Making a mess already!
This is my little 1885 Singer Improved Familiy machine. I found it on Craigslist for a mere $85.00 a couple of years ago. I don’t play with this one much…the bobbins are kind of funky, at least the loading of them is. This is one of the earlier class 15 machines, but there is no separate bobbin case, the bobbin goes down underneath in this little trap door. Yep, this one takes a bit of fiddling to get the bobbin in, and maybe that is why I don’t sew on this one too much.
Proof that women were shorter in 1885!
The higher cabinet ledge is a 1950s cabinet. The lower ledge, the 1885 treadle machine. It’s also not so comfy to treadle at this for long periods as a tall girl. I find myself caving in the middle to get my face closer to my work!
You can learn more about it HERE.
Are you ready to sew a bit?

Coming through loud, clear and in living color!
Hi Bonnie! I was going to do the mystery, but it just hasn't happened yet. I will be working on straightening out my sewing room during Quilt Cam today. Thanks so much for giving us one last QC for 2014.
Julie in Alabama
Thanks for this last 2014 Quiltcam. It gave me the motivation to FMQ my 2 last quilts of this year, so that I would be sewing the binding while watching you live!
I am so glad that I am getting to join in on the last Quilt Cam of the year! Thank you so much Bonnie for this wonderful outlet for us! I have many projects on the horizon I can't wait to share with you next year! I have a question for you though Bonnie......Besides using a constant fabric.....how many times are you comfortable using the same fabric for various units in one of your very scrappy quilts?
Great to join you live from here in Taunton England - it was so lovely to meet you at last at the American Museum in Bath in the summer - here's to a clear out of UFOs in 2015 and my new years resolution is to make more smaller quilts for our local children's hospice - Happy New Year to you and yours for 2015
Coming in perfect! Hello from Arroyo Grande California! I am having a great time working on the mystery quilt. Hoping to get caught up today! Thank you so much for doing this it is great fun! Amanda.
Trimming clue 1 that's while watching. I've been hibernating this weekend sewing a lot. Finished a baby quilt so I could start Grand Illusion. Thank you!
Watching you from Maine! Currently working on clues 4 and 5. I will be taking your class here in March, can't wait! Thank you!!!
I am here, watching quilt cam, about to work on clue 1, was hand quilting a baby quilt for my new grand daughter, she is my first, while also doing laundry.
Hello My name is Carla Benson in Boyceville Wisconsin , and I am so excited to have found you!! Thanks and a big shout out to Rosa Sandoval in Cali, my new best quilting friend!!I have ordered Leaders and Enders and hoping to figure out a good way to prepare my millions of scraps for quilting!! So so excited!!
First time quilt cam user. Struggling with being overseas (Germany) and keeping up with the GIMQ. I'm using a very cheap sewing machine and keeping the 1/4 seam allowance is so hard. Need encouragement!
Hi Bonnie! This is the first Quilt-Cam I've caught in about 7 months! I'm in my basement sewing cave - working on Jamestown Landing (one of my favourites from "String Fling").
Your machine sounds like the engine from the car from Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang! Love it!
Nancy (not from GUELPH anymore - but Kitchener, Ontario)
Hi Bonnie!
Joining you today and working on clue two of the mystery. I am loving the colors.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful inspiration with us!
Meg in Michigan
Hi Bonnie and all the quiltcam junkies!
I am working on Clue 4 trimming and squaring my neutral/aqua hsts and watching the Colts and listening/watching Quiltcam!
Multi-tasking I love it!
Really enjoying the mystery quilt, this is my first time to participate.
opps....Carla Benson again, forgot to say Rosa Sandoval is not only my new friend she hooked me up with you as I am a huge wanna be scrappy quilter!! I have tons of scraps my quilting friends share with me!! You are so inspirational, can't wait to get all of your books!!
Very excited! This is my first time to watch Quilt Cam live. As i live in the centre of the UK - not far from where you were at the NEC in August - I always have to watch you on catch up. However, this evening I have organised our dinner so I can watch you on my iPad whilst my husband watches a film on TV. One that is NOT my genre at all - Sci - Fi! No project, just watching you and enjoying. Thank you, Bonnie, for squeezing this into your hectic schedule. Still don't know how you keep all those balls in the air. Happy New Year!
Hi Bonnie, just finished the last of clue 3. Now to finish up clue 2 and I will be ready for whatever else you have coming. Thanks for all your efforts in giving us such excitement on the Grand Illusion. I believe this will go to my niece for her birthday.
I wanted to be sure to catch Quilot cam today - hoping to get some hints as to how much more there is to do. This is my first MQ and I Thank You for giving us such a fun activity!!
HI Bonnie! Julianne from Northern California here, Yay! No more Christmas music, especially "Santa Baby", I was right there with ya girl...they played that song wayyyy too much! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I am going to work on some more spider web sections today while watching quilt cam. I am almost caught up on the mystery, clue 4 is almost done and clue 5 will be a breeze! Thank you for quilt cam today..can you give a shout out to my quilty friend Kathy in East Canton Ohio for me? Shes my blogging friend that i have never met...my sister from another mister! Thanks!
Yeah Quiltcam!! I needed an excuse to sew today instead of loading a quilt frame and basting ;) Finished up a backing and now I'm off to work on clue #3. I hope to have my strip sets done by the end of Quiltcam today then I can concentrate on getting that frame loaded. Can't wait for the next clue.
Sharon from Ireland here and so happy to be with you live tonight… thank you for all you do. I am loving the MQ and learning so much, happy new year and I am so looking forward to whats ahead from Quiltvile for the coming year.
Yay for Quiltcam today! My daughter Hannah (and son Mac) are here from Wisconsin and she is actually sewing with me and watching quiltcam! This mama is very happy! She is working on a kitty pattern and I am working on adding more to Moth in the Window for my oldest son Coleman! :)
Free room and board if you come to Germany for Guild classes! Plus you can help me with organizing my stash!
Hi Bonnie,
Great to see you on quilt cam. I'm depapering my strings squares. I pulled out my string stash yesterday which was huge!!! So, while waiting for next clue, I decided to try to make a dent in my stash. Hmm, pile is still big but fun while watching old movies. Have a great trip, Rea from CNY
You are so right about going vintage! My kids must have been listening to me - they got me a 201K-3 in its case for me for Christmas, which they are delivering today! It was too heavy for me to bring home, but I can't wait to start cleaning and oiling her. They scored her for only $20 through a Facebook group, and it appears to only need new power/foot pedal cords. Thanks for my new obsession!
So glad to hear Mark is doing so well, I unfortunately lost my brother on Dec 22 to Colon Cancer. Our family was able to spend his last week with him and he left us with such wonderful memories and that eases the pain immensely. Thanks to all the wonderful people doing the GI Mystery Quilt that made such encouraging remarks when I posted the only block I made on Clue #1 just before we flew out to be with my brother, Edwin. Not knowing the situation they gave me such a gift just by their nice comments. Yes Bonnie, quilters are the best, ever!
I am so glad your brother is doing so well. I would also like to shout out to friends Audra and Kathy who are doing their very first mystery quilt with you! Jacki in Phx.
HI Bonnie
Working on step 5 -- but need to go back to 1-4! Thanks for the wonderful instructions for the mystery.I have a question--do you know what you will be doing when you teach at the Vermont Quilt Festival? I am looking forward to taking a class with you in person!
Suzanne

ps. congrats to your brother
Listening to bonnie radio while relaxing on the sofa with hubby. He likes to watch quilt cam with me and had a chuckle when you realised the iron was in the way of the camera, again. Really enjoying this years mystery but neither one of us can guess where the green and white rectangle will go. Looking forward to the next clue. Love from cooold Sweden.
Hi, Bonnie! Thanks for Quilt-Cam today...Just what I needed! I'm binding a quilt for my Hospice Quilt Group. Love your machine and all you share. Happy travels and glad you had a great Christmas. Happy New Year, too!

Hello Bonnie from Kansas. I am running my longarm and binding a quilt while watching you. Thanks for everything you do. I started following you in August of 2014 and now addicted to scraps.
Laura
I am with you on the mom/wife duties! Love the family time, but I sure do need my "me-time" or things don't aren't very pretty LOL
Working on my broken dishes from clue 4 !! Thanks again Bonnie for bringing us such a great project.
Hi Bonnie! Karin from Cape Town South Africa! I'm also sewing on my Spiderweb! Started it like 18 months ago and pulled it out just before Christmas. My colors are blue and green. For a boy aged 16

Just finished quilting on a comfort quilt while watching you on Quilt Cam. Wonderful to work along with friends just like the old time bees.
Hooray for Quilt Cam today! Hand quilting on "Sunset" from Thimbleberries -- a top I pieced six years ago! and am finally quilting. Happy New Year from snowy Central Alberta!
On the beach in Naples FL watching Quiltcam. Can't get much better than this!
Heard you talk about the Split 9-Patch Leader/Ender project and am trying to send you a photo of mine. I used all Half Square Triangles - no plain squares. Yikes!
Love your Quilt Cam afternoons and your blog. Thanks. Here's the link to my Split 9-Patch quilt on facebook. You might have to cut and paste it.

Hi Bonnie...
Peggy here from NJ watching Quilt Cam after not checking in for a while.
I'm attaching some binding and then I need to make string blocks for a new project.
I'm all caught up with the mystery and DYING to see how this will all look.
It's my 3rd mystery.
Hi Bonnie!!! I'm so happy I have finally found some time to sew and with the bonus of quilt cam!!! Melody and I will be doing our traditional sewing mystery quilt on New Year's Eve!!!!
What is the quilt on your wall to your right? I love it and want to know if it is in one of your books. Camisbrown@yahoo.com
Thanks Bonnie, watching Quilt cam while I eat my breakfast and preparing myself for a full day of sewing which doesn't happen very often since it is Monday morning I normally would be getting ready for work.
Hi Bonnie, thanks for all you do. I'm doing my first mystery quilt with you, I'm not keeping up with all of these overachievers, but I'll plug along and get it done eventually. I heard you mention on quilt dam the you donate stuff to Goodwill, just a quick plea here, try to find a local Salvation Army, they give back everything to the community so all of the money's from your donations stay local. Goodwill pays its higher ups a lot of money, and they really don't do anything for the community.
This is for the lady that had a question about what she can take on the plane...I blunt scissors. needles and my fabric no problem getting through Atlanta and San Digeo airport security!Even had a state police flash light with a zapper!
thank you for the mystery quilt, have not started it, but have been saving and printing out, ready to start in January, I am in the UK, and have found the quilt cam... thank you so much
Hi Bonnie, I am in the UK... so glad to join you on quilt cam, this is my first time.... really love your quilts, and yes I love 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'
Sorry I missed you during the live quilt cam. Busy working on Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. My computer is not set up to sew and and watch quilt cam. I took off a few days from my long arm quilting to catch up on the GIM Quilt. Almost finished with part 3. Soooo behind.Tomorrow have to get back on the long arm quilting horse. So much to do and so little time.
