I just came across the most fascinating video on the BBC website about hand made scissors.
What an art form!
Yes, I’ve been trolling BBC even more since getting BACK from England!
There is an embed code for the video, so I decided to share it with you!
What an amazing craft scissor making is. So sad to see the hand made scissors craft dying. I would love to own a pair of these.
Visit the full article on the BBC site HERE.
I have been busy with THIS today:
All book orders are up to date and out the door!
If you placed an order while I was in England, thank you so much for your patience –I’m all caught up and things are on the way to their destinations as I type this!
Headed to the Cabin in about an HOUR.
I can’t get there soon enough!
There will be much mystery quilt sewing this weekend!
And time for long walks in the mountains with Sadie.

How interesting! Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend at the cabin!
Enjoy your mystery sewing!!!
Definitely enjoy your time relaxing and stitching on the mystery quilt. If you would let Sadie just give us a hint about the colors you used, it would be nice. Can Sadie text after you cut her nails? Enjoy your time and r-e-l-a-x!
Well I should hope you do walk with Sadie, poor scamp! Precious girl has been without her Mommy just far toooooooo long and Nneeds one on one time with Her Bonnie-Mom.
Have fun

Enjoy your weekend!! Love, Ria.
Did you make to the Ernest Wright stand At the Birmingham show??? They are makers of wonderful scissors. I inherited some from my Mother, and they are still brilliant, and woe betide ANYONE who takes them away from where I know where they are............and just dont even think of using them for anything but fabric gggg
They are the best scissors ever, you should have picked up yourself a pair at Festival of quilts! I was made to try every pair to see which felt right for me! They really are awesome!
i saw that video and sighed...yet another hand craft nearly extinct but thankful not quite yet...
Dear Bonnie,
Thank you for sharing all your adventures with us, I don't always leave a comment but I look @ your blog every day & love the photos, the history (esp all the English bits from your last trip), & of course a peep @ your latest projects always inspires me, enjoy your time back home -- it's true what they say -- there is no place quite like it , Deb M from Oz
That is so cool!
What is funny (in a way) - is that I found in some things of my mom's when she passed on, some Stork scissors! Although they haven't been kindly treated, they ARE fixable - and I think I may just get them fixed up! I wonder if Mr. Stone could have originally made them or if Stork scissors were made by a lot of the scissor makers! And how I could find out!
I saw their stand at the FOQ and then 2 days later they were on the TV saying how they were about to close the business down as the sales were so poor but had made a video which had gone viral and saved the business what a small world. I have my grandmother`s dressmaking shears and she passed away in 1956,Dad gave them to me in the 1980`s also a pair I bought in 1965 they could both do with sharpening now!
I was talking to a lady on the Ernest Wright and Son stall at FoQ and she was telling me they now have a waiting list until October for some of their scissors....Brilliant that the feature on the BBC gave them a new lease of life - they had to make people redundant in June (just before the BBC feature).
I really appreciate you spotlighting crafters & artisans that are talented but may be struggling! Kudos to you.
That video was fascinating! Thank you for sharing it.
Fascinating video of scissor making. I've seen all metal stork scissors and thought they were antique.
Thank you for hightling the plight of these talented artisans. It would be such sadness if these skills were lost. I hope their industry survives. Hopefully by getting the word out their sales will increase.
