I swear – I didn’t mean to do this…but I mean, really – could you?
I didn’t have a Husqvarna in my collection, and I Have heard such good things about them ----so when I got a message back on a machine I had inquired about weeks ago as still being available, and would I like to come and see it ---I grabbed my purse and off I went!
So much for not coming home with any machines during the trip to Pennsylvania – turns out this one was waiting for me near home :c)
This is before they were called “Viking/Husqvarna” and as you can see, it was made in Sweden, and sold through Canadian distributors in Montreal.
This baby had a long way to go before ending up in North Carolina!
Here she is! She needs a Nordic Princess name, don’t you think?
I haven’t looked up the serial number, but by the case, the matte finish, the chrome and body style, I’m guessing 1950s.
She weighs half a ton, all sold metal. She takes a regular class 15 bobbin and bobbin case which are present, and you can tell by the badge plate at the top of this post that she takes a standard 15X1 needle. These are GREAT features since I don’t like to have to search for specialty needles and expensive parts..I want her up and ready to sew!
She needs a new belt – we will take care of that shortly ---but probably not until after Alaska #1 and Alaska #2 with Collaboration Celebration in between.
I also took 5 minutes while the laundry was drying in between today’s other errands to take care of THIS thanks to parts that arrived in the mail while I was gone:
Thread guides make a difference!
Ugly Betty is now sewing perfectly!! YAY BETTY!!!
I am off to run to Fedex, the bank, the post office and fill the car with gas ---I’ll come home and start packing the trunk show and luggage for Alaska. If I make good use of my time we may be having Quilt-Cam tonight – check back at 6pm eastern and I’ll let you know for sure, and don’t hang me if it doesn’t work out that way, I’m really trying to get it all done…

Hope your Huskie gives you much joy - my workhorse is a 20-year old Viking Orchidea, which quilts, sews costumes, props and everything I can throw at it! Also has an embroidery attachment which does amazing things, although I don't use it all that much. How about Brunnhilde as a name?
welcome to the land of Viking -- these are great machines mine is a new model and I love them. Hope we get quilt cam tonight that would be great but you got a full schedule going on. So wish I was able to afford the Winston retreat especially since it's here in my back yard -- I know it's going to be great one.
I think you should call her Freya! Norse goddess of love, beauty, fertility and gold! She has a chariot pulled by two cats and a cloak of falcon feathers!
Looks like the gold is already there in the lettering and thread!
I think Helga is good.
Yeah! for Betty :-)
Remember Elke Sommer from 1950/60s movies? I believe she was Swedish
I have some stuff ready to sew for quilt-cam. It can wait on you. Take your time. We'll be here waiting for you.
Kathleen from San Juan, Texas
Brunhilda?
The older machines like that one are good. I have a newer one and HATE IT.I found Finna on this web page about how nordics name thier children:http://www.vikinganswerlady.com/ONNames.shtml
Your Huskie looks so much like the 1950's New Home my grandma had, except hers had a shiny finish. I sewed a lot on that machine and it was in my Mom's house after she passed away. Nobody bought it at the yard sale so I left it in the house when it sold. Maybe I should have kept it. I think about all it needed was a new check spring and a good servicing. Oh, well, what's done is done.
...my Husq is called Sven.. I think all husq's are male:)
Btw: it says Vapenfabrik on your machine, which means Weaponfactory. You better be carefull, this Husq might be dangerous *lol*
I second Freya. I believe Friday is named after her, but I'm not sure.
WOW!! What a diverse company- lawnmowers, chainsaws, heavy equipment....and sewing machines! Who knew? Olga sounds like a good name!
A Husqvarna - nice buy!
Our Swedish crown princess name is Victoria. She has a daughter Estelle. Madeleine is Victoria's younger sister. If you want a Swedish princess name from back in the days I suggest Ingrid, Margaretha, Birgitta or the even older Ingeborg, Hedvig or Sigrid.
How about Pippi (as in Longstockings) or Astrid (as in Lindgren....author of Pippi Longstockings).
yes she will definitely need a swedish name for sure...helga maybe? if that's swedish....it's only right...and thanks annika, i might take birgitta for MY old viking....
I'm with you, Nicky. Freya is the perfect name. Named a friend's white German Shepherd "Freya Nerthus" incorporating another Germanic goddess associated with fertility and wandering. The Husqvarna has certainly traveled, and she will be fertile in her stitching production. Of course, Bonnie could call her "Hussy" and be done with it. LOL
Freya was what came immediately to my mind, too.
My Husq serger is named Ole.
We have a friend in Sweden whose wife's name is GERT --- pronounced YERT. He affectionately calls her YERTA ...I think it is cute....
Smiles, JulieinTN
BTW, Bonnie -- Rubenstein is still in business!http://www.rubenstein.ca/
"Canada's oldest and largest supplier of machinery and equipment to sewn product manufacturers and embroiderers."
Love it. I have a Husqvarna designer 1 and love it. Excellent machines.i think Helga!
I have two Husqvarna/Vikings and love them both. I vote for Freya!
Freya is a pretty cool name ..... has my vote!
Hi Bonnie, congratulations on your new machine. I have two Husqvarna machines a Quilter and a Lisa. They do special limited editions every now and then that they name after Swedish royalty.
You might want to review the past names if the royal family and make your choice that way.
Have fun choosing her name and many years of enjoyment.
I think Estelle after the youngest princess she was born last year and it is such a pretty name :)
I just love these vintage machines! I have a few ;) and just purchased a barely-used one(who does that? Not use them, that is) Necchi.

How about Sonja after Sonja Henie the Olympic ice skater and movie star. She was Norwegian but she was Nordic and a champion.
I am happy to see that you have bought an old Husqvarna. If you want a princess name from the time I think Ingrid, is a very nice name. Princess Ingrid was born as a Swedish princess and then became the Queen of Denmark.
Britt-Inger from Sweden
I suggest you name her Victoria Ingrid Alice Desiree. That is the name of the current Crown Princess of Sweden. She will be the fourth Queen Regnant of Sweden on the death of her father King Gustav. She is a lovely princess, probably the prettiest of any European princess.
Oops, King Karl Gustav. Sorry.
I kind of like "Hussy"!!
How about Rose? Remember the Golden Girls?
So glad you got poor ugly Betty going.i have a Pretty Betty! And she is one of my favorite 301's . Actually I have not named her but I will give her a name soon since she is a wonderful machine. Glad you got the Swedish princess for your collection! If she was still available it was meant to be, don't you think?
Astrid, Sigrid
Possible names... Astrid, Inga, Ingrid?
Well being of Norwegian heritage, my vote goes for LENA.....everyone has heard of the Ole and Lena jokes, and lots of love and laughter goes with it, just like you will have with your new machine. My first machine was also a Viking......Jan in ND
glad you are coming to ak, soldotna. there is a music festival going on in ninilchik, a few miles down the road from you this weekend. it would take you a couple of hours round trip, don't know if you have the time, but it would be a blast! weather is sunny --that is unusual_- but rain predicted this weekend. bye now!
Love to hear that you bought a swedish machine.
Why not name her Victoria - after the crown-princess in Sweden

How about Freya, the Norse goddess of love (amongst other things) as a name for your new machine?.

Ingrid gets my vote!
Beautiful, you will need to open a museum soon! As your collection grows!

Bonnie - Her name must be DAGMAR. Dagmar was a Danish Queen from 1185-1212.
How about a name like Hilga? That Although, looking at Terri's
suggestion... Dagmar looks/sounds guite solid... just like
the Viking/Husqvarna she is! LOl..
How much did you pay for your Nordic?
