Hi Bonnie,If she had thumbs, I think she would have been taking notes! haha.
Really enjoyed quilt cam last night, and so did Ivy, my dog! Not the best pics in the world, but you can tell she was really into it, watching and listening.
I wasn't sewing while you were on, but I'm sewing today. Working on my Mom's birthday quilt. If it doesn't get done in time for her birthday, I'll just keep at it and send it to her when it is done. We are going to visit her this coming weekend. She lives a few hours north of us.
Tammy K. in IllinoisHow fun to see the dogs and cats and their antics while you sew during Quilt-Cam time!
It really does help me stick with a project --- I only hope that my long term projects don’t bore YOU in the process!
Bring a project, come sew for a while!

I am curious why you sew on vintage machines...I thought several years ago you owned Janome 6600 or one like that - that many quilters like. (I like vintage machines too, but would love to have a great modern machine too.)
Hi Bonnie, Mary in snowbound Ontario, my town had the distinction of the most snow in the latest storm - 40 cm (whatever that is, it looks like 2 feet) I'm sewing on a baby bargello on my Neechi Esperia or as I call it "my ferrari"
Hear you loud and clear here.
I am joining you from Scottsdale , AZ. I am working on my scrappy trip around the world. Thanks so much for this pattern. I had a box full of 2.5 inch strips and they are going to make a fabulous queen size quilt.
Mary
Working on Hobo quilt I to love the mundane of repeation
Hearing you loud and clear. How do you store all your quilts. I have quite a stack now and can never decide how and where to store them safely.

Hi ~ a little late in getting here ... Sam's Club was sucking $$ out of my wallet ... $$ that I would like to put towards a hand crank machine. My question is this: If you were going to buy a hand crank machine and didn't know anything about spindle type bobbins but were comfortable with featherweight machines what would you recommend in my search? Machines that are REALLY old scare me a little; I've seen handles that attach to a featherweight to make it into a hand crank ... I'm just not sure where to start my research and search! Linda
Hi Bonnie! I'm joining you from CT under 3' of snow! I'm working on the binding of a quilt for my daughter in law. My husband heard your voice when I turned on the quilt cam segment and asked me if I was listening to Bonnie!!! He said its funny he recognizes your voice. Love this! Michele
Watching while riding down the road. iPhones are awesome! Hope to be home sewing soon. Thanks for the motivation.

Hi ! Bonnie...back in Jan. I wrote about getting my Improved Family
treadle running. Looks very much like the one you just got..I was so glad to see the info you posted and I went on a reading binge !
I had not found much about it prior ! Lilly is her name..1888' I will send some pictures soon. Hope you can continue to pass along info sources as you come upon them.
I am decoupaging a beautiful pink and green map of Germany (from the Goodwill Outlet in Indy) onto the case for a $5 (from Salvation Army) green 1950s Brother Profile. It is going to be SO fun. THANK YOU for sharing others' genius ideas too...this one will make this machine DELIGHTFUL.
Lucy~
Hi Bonnie! Glad to be apart of Quiltcam. Treadling away on my string geese. I made a spool pin doily, 3 to be exact! Thanks for inspiring me to used vintage machines. Love them...
Woo-hoo, I'm able to join you with Quilt-cam today! I'm trying to finish my "Bedford Beauty" quilt. I started this at your "Jared Takes a Wife" workshop in July in, you guessed it, Bedford PA. Had a wonderful time then and having a wonderful time now!
Thank you for getting me motivated to get busy and get the Wheeler and White No. 9 treadle in working order. Bought it for the ornate cabinet but the machine is in pretty good shape and everything moves. I do have a question -- I have looked at several treadle oriented site. but no one says specifically how to put the belt on. Does the staple go long side to the wheel on the machine or the prong side to the wheel? Thanks for all the help!!
Took about 1hr for the first doily. My first time using crochet thread!
Good Evening Bonnie, from WETWETWET UK: I'm de-papering some random hexie blocks that were made with trimmed scraps, this will be an ongoing project that will eventually be 110 x 110", smallish blocks so I can mix and match as I have more trimmings to make the hexies and get a good random mix. A box of these is stashed in the car for odd moments. Glad of your company!
Could you please tell me what you use to clean the gunk off the machine. the new featherweight I just bought yesterday seems to have a layer of oil over the top of it and it makes the machine look a little dull. I think you used cooking oil but not sure?
Thanks!
Robin
Hi Bonnie, Treadling along with you. have a red eye. DH is doing our taxes. thanks goodness.. finished doing the thread doilies and do like them . enjoying QuiltCam.
Hi Bonnie from a cold, wintry Dundee, Scotland. I love joining Quiltcam but not able to sew tonight as I have tendonitis in both thumbs and they're both playing up tonight :( Nevermind I will sew in spirit with you tonight. June
Reboot please. Thank you.
Yes...please reboot....breaking up bad here! :)
I e-mailed Cindy and she got back to me real quick about the conversion for changing my Bentwood "tombstone" to a hank crank. I made a few of the Doilies too. Made up my own edges, but used the center info from your post with Shelvy. Just watching today with one eye, had surgery on Friday to remove a Basal Cell Cancer :/ No machinery allowed for a couple days...
Hi Bonnie, enjoying Quiltcam today but the feed is getting pretty choppy here in KY. Reboot might be good.
Hi Bonnie, You will need to wear your mittens and button your coat today at Groveland School. Where do you keep your vintage babies? Sometime could you give us a "tour" of vintageland as it would be fun to see some of them. Lois
Hi Bonnie,
Just the other day I made a scrappy trip quilt. Your love of old machines is contagious, as well. I found a 301 just a few weeks back for only $15 and it runs beautifully! Today I came across a 201 in the cabinet for just $100. It purrrrrsss like a kitten and came home with me. Love these old machines!

Hi Bonnie,
It's a sunny winter Sunday here in Central Alberta. Tuned in just after you re-booted so all is going well! Applying beads to an art quilt while I watch. Love being part of Quilt Cam; it's one of my online "guilds". (The other is Studio Art Quilt Associates.) My Easy Street is in only 2 sections now; one more loo-o-o-ng seam and it will be a gigantic flimsy!
Hi Bonnie,
I recently bought a Janome similar to the one you have, for the same reason as the other person who posted -- I am trying to learn machine quilting at home and I need the throat space. Also, I do some other kinds of sewing, such as clothes, so I like the additional stitches. And you are right, each person should do what works for them -- I was afraid to learn quilting for a long time because it seemed like there were so many "rules" and things you were supposed to do and not supposed to do! Finally I just decided to forget the rules, rely on my experience sewing in other contexts, and dive in. It has been fine.
Thanks for Quilt Cam!

Bonnie you can also use copies of old pattern pieces to decoupage with. I was thinking of pictures of the old pattern packages too, also any old ads for machines, thread, etc.... Nancy
ok so I have tried to watched from the blog for the last 5 minutes.
Had to log into ustream to see quilt cam today..
Down to the last two rows of Easy Street...love it! Everything has gone smoothly except I don't think I did very well with the bulky seams. Any words of wisdom or is it just the nature of the beast? Thanks...Michelle in Virginia
Hello from snowy Nova Scotia, day three of the storm Sun is trying to come out and the snow has slowed down. My first chance to visit with quilt came because of time difference. Have some hand applique to work on.
Are you going to have an official leader/ender project for this year? I printed out you pattern for the spools, but haven't kitted any yet? Waiting to see if you start one for 2013, since I am relatively new to Quiltville.
Bye Bonnie, leaving early because DH wants to take me fabric shopping! Can't pass that up.
Bonnie, where do you buy grease for your machines? I used to get it from Joann's but they now only carry oil
Still plugging away on the queen-size Scrappy Trips Around the World done in fall colors for our deaf friends that lost their home in Super Storm Sandy. Many of the strips came from an online swap so they are definitely not what I would have chosen! But I know EVERYTHING works in Scrappy Trips Around the World! I think I'm going to use a Barn Raising set. Leader-ender project is little 2.5 inch quarter-squares that will form stars for sashing blocks in a Civil War Album Variation. Fun, fun in the Calif. desert! Donna D., Hemet, CA
Bonnie, what kind of iron are you using?
Hi, Bonnie! Just came in from shoveling the last (I hope!) of 3' of snow. Hubs tier has a broken ankle, so he's been of very limited help with this storm. Working on spinning seams of my last 100ish 4-patches. Thinking of a pieced border, though not totally committed yet. Worst case, I'll use the extras for the back or pillowcase borders. Once again, nice seeing you during the afternoon! Enjoy Lincoln, if you go to see. I've not yet, though it is on my list.
I have several neat sewing themed fabrics...can those be decoupaged to your machine bases???
XOXOXO SUbee
who is sewing Hexies today
I love the music you play in the background; we have very similar tastes. Unfortunately when you were talking about the female singer earlier who you said had a strong voice and staying power in the industry I missed her name. Can you repeat for me? Please?? I liked the song she was singing, too!
Darn it. I had to completely reboot my computer and probably missed anything you said about oiling/cleaning the machine. Could somebody please message me back and let me know what Bonnie said if she did? I would like to clean the "crud" off the featherweight I just bought for 100 bucks!
Bonnie, Batiks and Black is stunning together! Im actually going to be sewing a sisters choice this spring with my batik scraps and black kona
Bonnie, can you put the link (or someone) on here for the Valentine potholders that one of the viewers was making during quiltcam time?
I missed your quiltcam because of the 24" of ice and snow that blanketed out area and the power outage from Fri night to Sun pm....I don't want to take that ride again!! Our boys in Khaki, the Nat'l Guard, have arrived here in SE CT!! A total nightmare here...most roads still not plowed...but, I did clean out my stash a lot!! Julierose
don't see any link to the Valentine pot holders that you mentioned from a viewer on quiltcam this afternoon. did not find the comment from the viewer about this.
So glad you compared collecting vintage sewing machines to collector cars! I have had cars for over 30 years and never got grief about them, but seems folks just don't understand the sewing machines! Always telling me I don't "need" another, but I have 2 vintage cars and one for daily driving! Thanks for the solution to my naggers!
Link is in guestbook. I am trying to bring it over, see if this works. http://www.aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com/2013/02/pot-holder-pattern.html?
If not, it is several screens down in view guest book. Gotta check it out myself!
Oh poop I missed quilt cam was busy sewing, will need to remember to check earlier in the day. :-(
