Lazy Sunday Sneak Preview! Give-Away!

Are you planning on joining me for Quilt-Cam this afternoon at 2pm Eastern?  Bring a project and come sew!

I am still loving my mail this week.

Look what was in the mailbox upon our return from the movies and dinner out yesterday!  It’s the March/April issue of Quiltmaker Magazine ---the one I’ve been waiting for!

First off…you will find Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s wonderful “Star Splitter” cover quilt from her book, 15 minutes of play! ((Available in the Quiltville Bookstore or at a shop near you!))

Doesn’t this quilt just beg you to dig into your crumbs and start playing?

quiltmaker 002

As soon as you can find the magazine in your mail box or on your news stands – you can learn more about V’s techniques and what inspires her.  After that, you are going to NEED THE BOOK!

If this wasn’t enough…..look what’s starting:

quiltmaker 003

My new mystery:  Lazy Sunday!

Lazy Sunday is going to run through 4 issues to completion.  So face the facts – you may as well get a subscription because that’s 4 out of 6 issues this year!

And wait – there’s more!

quiltmaker 004

An article on my use of the Easy Angle and Companion Angle rulers, along with great demo photos to help you remember how to use them!

And last but not least:

quiltmaker 005

This issue’s Addicted to Scraps column features a great traditional block called “Betty’s Choice” in greens and neutrals ---which is perfect for the MARCH issue –and St Paddy’s Day!  With the International Quilt Festival of Ireland just around the corner in June, I am getting really pumped up about EVERYTHING IRISH ---I love how this little block turned out, all from my scraps!

So let’s have a little give-away shall we?

Leave me a comment below, and since this is the March issue, and we are talking St Patrick’s Day, and Luck of the Irish – I want you to tell me about a situation you found yourself REALLY LUCKY!  Be creative!  I’m sure you’ve had a stroke of good luck somewhere down the line…tell me about it!  Make it fun!

And since my Birthday is Wednesday, I think it would be really lucky for me to draw our winner on the evening of my Birthday – Wednesday, January 23rd!  Who knows…we might even announce it during Quilt-Cam time!  ((Not sure if there are plans for a birthday dinner out yet – but will let you know!))

Oh, and let's sweeten the deal!  Our lucky winner will also receive a Summer Breeze Charm pack, thanks to the kind folks at Moda --- and I'll even throw in one of my seam guides!

((Thanks to Moda, I have enough summer breeze charm packs for give-aways from here until eternity..LOL!))

Luck o’ the Irish, Everyone!

  1. Happy Birthday, Bonnie!

I've had so many "lucky" days, but one always stands out in my memory. Not long after I was married, the physician I worked for decided to offer medical insurance. It was pretty much out of the blue, but very welcomed. Less than a month after the insurance was activated, my husband was hospitalized for a chronic illness. We would never have been able to afford his extended care without the insurance. What a blessing it was!

Happy Birthday! Today is my birthday! :-)
The only lucky thing for me so far is that i finally found a job after 7 long months of unemployment. Yay for me!
P.S. I hope you have a fun filled Birthday.

  5. My luck happened just last month. My husband became unemployed when the company he worked for liquidated with very little warning and no severance. I was in desperate need of a watch for my work as my other one had broken. We were worse than broke and had absolutely no money. A local jewelry store sent out a coupon for $100.00 off of a $100.00 purchase. It sounded too good to be true. I showed the coupon to my husband and told him I'd go in and get him a new watch. He was absolutely adamant that I get a new watch but I thought I'd surprise him with one anyway. When I got in there the men's watches were too expensive but I found a woman's watch for exactly 99.99. The store waived the tax on it so I walked out with a new Citizen watch for just the price of my gas to get into town to pick it up! I still can't believe what a blessing this was to me. I'd love to win the charm pack too as I thought I'd ordered this last fall but ended up getting Summer Breeze II which doesn't match what I needed it to! Wish me luck!

  6. A few years ago I was waiting in line at the Post Office when I noticed a crumpled bill on the floor. I picked it up and noticed a zero in the corner. Knowing someone would be missing that much money, I held it up an asked if anyone had lost some money. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy! So I put it in my pocket and finished my errands. When I got home, I took it out and discovered it was a $100 bill!!!
Less than an hour later, my toilet backed up and I had to call a plumber. You guessed it-- the service call was $100!!! Easy come, easy go! But I was lucky I found it because I didn't have $100 to my name at the time!

  9. When I lived in Florida, I went to the Jacksonville show. Stopped to purchase a quilt raffle ticket and kiddingly said, "Just one, please, I can win just as easily with just one ticket--like the lottery." Guess what? I won a beautiful queen sized quilt! Thanks for the offer! Can't wait for the mail now and Quiltmaker!

My " lucky" quilting story began at my very first guild meeting. I was very nervous as I was just a beginner and did not know if I would fit in. That night we did a group activity and made a small block . All the blocks were then turned in and names were drawn to win 10 blocks. My name was picked and ever since then, I have felt it was a sign that quilting was for me!

  17. Happy Birthday! Mine is Thursday, so hopefully I can start celebrating by doing your webcam (if you're not out partying). Other than the birth of my children, The luckiest I have been, is the day that I met my wonderful husband. I had a previous marriage that was extremely painful and abusive and had sworn to never marry again. Biggest mistake of being young and dumb, I guess. Anyway, I can't even begin to tell what a wonderful man he is. He accepted my daughter as his own from day one, helped me work through the issues from my first marriage, helped me go back to school and has encouraged me to do anything I have wanted in the last 30 years. Over the last 10-15 years, I have faced a lot of medical issues (some permanent), and he bends over backwards to make life as easy for me as possible. He drives me to be the best that I can be every day, even when I want to call it quits, he nudges me along. I honestly, don't know where I'd be without him in my life. I could go on all day but I'm sure you can get the gist of it from this.

  29. Bonnie it is good to have you back on quiltcam. My luckiest day was on Halloween about 10 years ago when in the hussle and bussle of getting three kids ready to go trick or treating a gal with a featherweight called me and told me I could buy it from her if I came right over. Kinda spooky ! I talked my husband into taking the kids out for trick and treating (really lucky)and I drove out to nowhere ville in the pitch black of night to a farm. Of course, I got lost going there. Finally made it there and not only did I get a featherweight machine but I got the case, accessories and TABLE. Boy I was LUCKY !

  33. I haven't subscribed to a quilting magazine for years. But I just might have to.... I love your mysteries! And what a fun block....love Betty's choice too. I see my life as many lucky experiences connected with family and friends I love. My most recent stroke of luck was my husbands thrift shop find..... a straight stitch, clean as a whistle, late 40's Necchi.... for $39.

I recently found this poem.... isn't it fun! Author unknown.

    A Wish for a Friend

    Wishing you a rainbow
    For sunlight after showers—
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
    For golden happy hours—
    Shamrocks at your doorway
    For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through!

  37. Probably my most lucky day recently was last Thursday, when our newest grandson was born. He was early but had a very difficult delivery, and we nearly lost both my daughter and him. Fortunately, both are now well on the way to recovery. It was a blessed, lucky day that she had the right doctor there, and plenty of helpers who knew what to do.

On a lighter note, I hope this issue of Quiltmaker shows up in my mailbox soon. I feel very fortunate for all the good magazines and for good internet blogs and discussion groups, where we can learn new things and associate with other quilters. When I first started quilting in the 70's, I just kind of felt my way along. So another lucky thing/blessing - to be living in this time and to have all these great resources available.

  38. Recently my mom flew from AZ to IN to join me at a quilt retreat. I felt so incredibly lucky to have the ability to spend this time with her and to have rare dedicated time to sew. We shared a wonderful long weekend and my Easy Street quilt is almost finished!! Thanks Bonnie, for the chance to win in your birthday drawing. But also, thanks so much for your teaching and inspiration for quilting that helps me have a creative outlet and share this interest with my mom and sister-in-laws. You do us all such good!

  40. Oh so many "lucky" things in my life...love, family, etc. but the one that sprung to mind when you asked was something that happened years ago. I was about 22 and driving through a desolate area of California to visit a girlfriend. My car blew a tire and I was stranded on the side of the road. The nearest thing I could see was a junkyard and all I could think of was a friend of my mother's who had been killed when her car broke down. (This was way before cell phones.) I was trying to figure out what to do when a car pulled up beside me. To my great relief, it was the highway patrol! The nice officer got me a tow truck and drove me to the Sears where they replaced my tire and I was on my way feeling like the luckiest girl ever! (pbstrand@msn.com) Happy Birthday to you, Miss Bonnie!

  45. When have I been lucky? Most of my life, I guess. I've been fortunate that very little distress has come to me so far in my life. A specific lucky experience was when I received my a quilt top made in the early 1940's by my husband's great grandmother and which I finished this month. Of course, discovering Bonnie Hunter's entertaining and informative blog has been another stroke of luck. Thanks for all you do for all of us quilters out here, Bonnie, and Happy Birthday!

  47. I was trying to figure out one really lucky time in my life and have decided that I'm pretty lucky or blessed in general. I've survived a rare progressive birth defect for 40 years longer than expected, made it thru over 40 operations, thyroid cancer, Hep C and an aortic aneurysm and I just keep on ticking.

When it comes to my most recent luck I just found out Friday that I won a brand new embroidery machine from a national contest and a jelly roll from a blog. Now, if I was just lucky enough to stumble onto that featherweight that someone was just going to throw out..... :)

  52. My lucky day was the day I bought my Janome Horizon. I've spend two years saving small amounts of money to buy a really good sewing machine, but they can be expensive. So I reached the €1000,- mark (that is about 1300 USD) and surfed on the internet. There was a shop which wanted €950,- for the JANOME. This was only used for demonstration in the shop. A new Janome around here costs €1700,- So I went over there and tried the machine and bought it. The shop owner said; I forgot to mention that you also get the sewing table and some other gadgets. He just was happy to get rid of this machine because it was in the middle of the store. He was happy, and I was extremely happy. I've sewed my Easy Street on it!!

  57. When DH and I got married we went to Atlantic City for our honeymoon. I watched 5 or 6 people hit on a wheel of fortune slot game. I waited my turn. I played $12 and when I put in my 13th dollar hit it for $800. That was our lucky day ( besides the wedding)! Now luck for me would be if I were picked for the magazine and goodies, as we've moved to eastern Texas and the nearest fabric stores are in Louisiana and it's a 45 minute drive ( on a good day) and we only go when he has a VA hospital visit!

Hope you have a wonderful birthday with lots of time for stitching!

When my sons were in Jr. High and High School, I had to take them to school and pick them up each day. My youngest son's Jr. High was on a residential street. The police were very picky about drivers allowing their cars to 'stand' in the street while waiting for students to be dismissed for the day. The only places to park were in front of the school--if I was lucky enough to get a spot--and a very small parking lot at the side of the school, which was where teachers and staff parked--there may have been 10 spaces for parents to park--not a good situation at all for the ONLY Jr. High in town that had over 600 students in grades 7 and 8.

One day I picked up my oldest son at his High School and drove across town to the Jr. High to get his brother. The street in front of the Jr. High was packed with cars. There was one police officer, and I saw him waving drivers over--they got caught standing in front of the school, blocking the road for the residents to use. Unfortunately, I was also waved over--into the parking lot to wait for my ticket. My sons and I were just sitting there waiting, when all of a sudden there was a fender-bender less than 25 yards from us. The policeman who was waving people over for standing, he went over to the two cars involved in the accident and started talking to each driver. I sat in my car for about 10 seconds when it hit me--the officer was busy--NOW was the time to drive away and likely he would not notice. I was parked toward the back of the parking and luckily there were two entrances, one at the front from the street, and the second entrance led to another residential street--a cut-through between two houses. I drove to the back residential street, all the while looking in my rear-view mirror. The police officer never noticed that I left. When I got onto the main road leading back to my house, I looked in the rear-view mirror and my sons had the biggest smiles on their faces...I have to admit that I felt guilty in a way--I considered myself a law-abiding citizen, and what type of 'role model' was I being to my sons? I had to laugh, though. I thought that it was the city's fault there wasn't a better way for parents to pick up their children from the Jr. High and it was rather unfair that the police department had an easy, sure-fire way to make their ticket quota every day. The school did have available land to build a bigger parking lot if necessary...(which has not happened all these years later)...but I had just decided I didn't want a ticket!

When we got home, my sons started calling their friends and telling them how it was "REALLY COOL" that their mom got out of a ticket. My husband later said he would have done the same thing I did. I have to wonder if the police officer looked up later after the accident was cleared and found that all the drivers he expected to ticket had driven away...

My sons are now 30 and 27 and we all still laugh about when "Mom sneaked out of a ticket."

Thanks for the giveaway! (Carol Alaniz)

  62. Happy Birthday, Bonnie! Enjoy your day. I feel so lucky most of the time, that I find it hard to settle on one lucky moment. But one of them would be getting invited by my husband's, cousin's wife, Bev, to go on a bus trip to the AQS quilt show in Lancaster PA. I'd never been to a big quilt show before and it was wonderful. But the really lucky part was forging a stronger friendship with Bev and meeting her friend, Barb. We three are "The Three Amigos", "The Three Musketeers" and maybe "The Three Stooges" all rolled into one!! I feel very blessed and very lucky to have two such wonderful ladies in my life!
PS - we also share a slavish devotion to following a certain Bonnie Hunter that borders on stalking!!

And I was really lucky last week to fill a cancellation for your two days of lecture and workshops in Prescott. AND I was lucky to overhear a conversation at dinner with you Monday evening telling me about a bargain LAQ system languishing in a thrift shop not too far from my home. AND I was lucky to have a generous, easy-going DH who encouraged me to get it and let it take over our formal living room--the only space big enough to accommodate it! Guess I am so lucky, I cannot be disappointed if I don't win your give away, but it sure would be fun to be that lucky, too!

  76. I am lucky to be able to learn SO much from you! It is really hard to keep up with you sometimes. Still working on "Easy Street"... You are such an inspiration to me. I was lucky enough to go on a Fabric Frenzy with my Annapolis Quilt Guild yesterday. We had a blast in Lancaster PA and I added quite a bit to my stash...

Well, I tried loading this on your page, hope this is not a duplicate...

When my sons were in Jr. High and High School, I had to take them to school and pick them up each day. My youngest son's Jr. High was on a residential street. The police didn't allow drivers to 'stand' in the street while waiting for students to be dismissed for the day. The only places to park were along the curb in front of the school--if I was lucky enough to get a spot--and a very small parking lot at the side of the school, which was where teachers and staff parked--there may have been 10 spaces for parents to park--not a good situation at all for the ONLY Jr.

My sons and I were just sitting there waiting, when all of a sudden there was a fender-bender less than 30 yards from us.

I have to wonder if the police officer looked up after the accident was cleared and found that all the drivers he expected to ticket had driven away...

My sons are now 30 and 27 and we all still laugh about when "Mom sneaked out of a ticket."

    Thanks for the giveaway!

My husband and I will be married 20 years, our oldest daughter will turn 20 later this year, my husband will retire after 20 years from the Army, our youngest daughter will graduate from HS, we will be empty nesters and on to our next big adventure...all this year! It feels like a lucky year!

  86. My best LUCK story was a couple of years ago. A friend of mine and I were going to do the QUILT101 SHOP HOP. We were at our beach house for the weekend and planning on setting out on Sunday afternoon. Saturday night, my sister-in-law called to say that my mother-in-law wasn't doing well (hospice) and we should plan on coming down. We cancelled our plans and she made plans to go home on Sunday and we would go see Mom. Well, Sunday morning we got the call that mom had passed during the night. My husband looked at both of us and said that we might as well go on the shop hop because the reason for going to Eugene was gone.

Sue and I left that afternoon and were gone for two days. We each got our passports stamped at each shop and had a great time.

A couple of days after the shop hop ended, I got a call from Jane's in Tillamook telling me I had won the grand prize ... a Janome 6600!!!!

I want to do the hop again this year ... same grand prize ... of course, I would not turn down the machine if I won and it would be really fantastic to have a second one at the beach house.

  89. One Christmas when my children were young and we lived in England, I entered a contest at a store, I received a call that I had won a Paddington Bear stuffed animal (very popular at that time). So I go to the store to collect my bear thinking it would be a normal size; to my surprize it was the over 5 foot display bear that was almost as tall as me! Needless to say my kids and all the neighborhood kids LOVED to sit in his lap. We enjoyed Paddington for many years and passed him him on when my kids out grew him.

I used to quilt with my mother, until she passed away doing what she loved to do. She was at a quilting bee and had a stroke. That was 20 years ago. My 2 best friends have gotten me to start up again, and one of them told me about your website. I so love to watch you and follow your adventures. I love scrappy quilts.

Quilting wise, first time to Smokey Mountain Quiltfest in 2011 I won a free class certificate for 2012 and my sister won one of the Quilt guilds Raffle baskets, oh what a haul over $1100 in Quilting/sewing goods. Went in 2012 and won another free class for 2013.
Luckiest thing ever is my Family and all the time and love we have to share in everyday.

  103. 2012 was bar none the worst year of my life. But 2013 started off with a really special give from a complete stranger, A 30's Singer treadle base and a like new 66-18 sewing machine from the late 40's. I've converted it to a treadle and gosh, it just hums along.

I've been looking for a treadle for about 6 years since a friend in Canada started using one for her reenactment outfits. Falling this one was really lucky times two!

Thanks for a great mystery this year, I'll be working on assembly during quilt cam today. Sharyn in Kalama

  109. My lucky day was the day Mom taught me to sew on her treadle sewing machine when I was in 3rd grade. The stitch lines were very crocked but I was so proud of that apron. If it wasn't for that day I would have never found you. Another lucky day was when I had bilateral cochlear implant surgery on Dec. 9, 2002. I am now able to hear you on Quilt Cam. How lucky is that? Thanks for all you do and keep the tips coming.

  111. Call me lucky!!!I went to a 5 day quilt retreat at Hickory Knob state park about an hour from my house. Hours and hours of uninterrupted quilting!! Heaven. Bliss. The views are spectacular. Food is prepared at a lodge. Love it.

At about 4:30 I went for a short walk to stretch my legs down to see the lake at my quilt retreat. There is a trail head right near the conference center at this state park where I was attending a quilting retreat. I was only going to stretch, look at the lake, and then get back to the matter at hand ....QUILTING. I went a mile or so, thinking I would find this bench that I had visited a few years ago. I went two miles and thought "Boy, I don't remember the trail being this long, but maybe I am almost there" Keep walking.....at mile three I thought I maybe should turn around and hike back. At least I would know that it is only three miles BUT I am doing 20 minute miles (pretty up and down, rocks, roots, 53 years old...) so I decide...SURELY it can't be much further since the trail name is Lakeview LOOP. On I go. I recognize that I am loosing daylight... CHIT. I begin to power walk and run on areas of the trail that I can see are clear, level, and root free. At mile 6 I see a dock but clearly it is going to take me an hour to walk around the peninsula. I keep walking. I have no cell service in the entire park so my phone is no help. I had a bottle of water but nothing else....no whistle, no first aid kit, nada... I was only going for a short hike to see the water. CHIT CHIT. Since daylight was just about gone, I could no longer make out the hash marks on the trees and I thought if I cannot follow the trail THAT is the way to get really lost. I thought maybe I should go toward the edge of the lake and walk on the beach areas.... I finally come across a street light which is not on the trail but about 200 paces off the trail. I know the cardinal rule of hiking is to NOT leave the trail but I decide to "Go toward the light". That light was located at the very last campsite in the park. I had to walk two more miles to get back to the conference center where I started the walk. I survived. Eight miles total. Totally stupid. I am a Girl Scout for God sake!! No one knew where I was going for a walk (I was only going to be gone 15 minutes at the most). At one point I thought I am going to be spending the night in the woods because I was loosing daylight (6:00 at that point). I tell you what........I did not like that feeling!! Not that sleeping in the woods would be a problem, but NOBODY knew where I had gone and had begun to worry. I had no equipment, no flashlight, etc. Long story short, I shoulda/woulda/coulda told someone where I was going. I should have turned around at the one mile marker (since I clearly remembered the bench being just down the way....) I survived. And hey....8 mile hike under my belt. More quilting followed and good story to tell.
I took pics of each mile marker that I crossed UNTIL I realized I should not waste battery on pictures...when I might need to flash light to get help. Here is the last one I took....can you see that I was loosing daylight. Oh geeez.... Just call me tired!!

  121. Happy Birthday for Wednesday Bonnie. I would love to be coming on your Ireland tour but unfortunately travel will be out of the question this year as we wait to hear if my husband has lost his job or not. He feels quite confident that if he did lose it, he would get another reasonably OK but it is the waiting that is the worst thing.
I plan to attend the Tuscany trip in 2015 but will be intrigued to know what quilt related things will be involved. That trip will be part of my 50th birthday trip to Europe and the States. I will have to start saving now. And of course will be looking forward to seeing you in NZ in 2016 along with your Australian trip :)
I would love to win the magazine - I don;t seem to ever be able to find it in my local book or quilt store here in NZ - I need to get them onto that I think.

  124. My most recent luckiest moment was last fall when Bonnie make "sort of" last minute plans to teach a workshop in Aiken, SC. Somehow, the local guild did not fill up all the slots in the class...and Bonnie mentioned on her blog there were spaces available. The guild was innudated with calls and emails from all over (out of state)from people seeking one of the slots in the class. Instantly, there was a long waiting list....well, low and behold, I was lucky to email them in the nick of time and got one into the class when someone cancelled!! And I got time off from work to attend (out of town)!!! Yahoo! It was great. If you EVER get a chance to attend one of Bonnie's workshop, take it. Use your vacation time, use your rainy day fund, do whatever it takes and go. You will learn and you will enjoy it. I would love a chance to win a copy of the magazine. It looks like a keeper. And I would love another seam guide. Bought one at the aforementioned workshop but it's buried under all the fabric on my table...so I need another one and I'll put it in a good place. I promise.

  130. I was going to college and it was the day of the review for my sociology final. Unfortunately, I overslept and missed the class. Since my professor was repeating the review that evening, I decided to catch it then. I managed to sit in on that evening class for the review and that was where I met Kenneth. That evening sociology class was Kenneth's very last class before graduating. Oversleeping that morning was probably the luckiest day of my life because Kenneth and I were married the next year. That was 33 years ago and I still consider it the luckiest day of my life! Thanks for the heads up about your Lazy Sunday mystery in the March/April issue of Quiltmaker Magazine. Went that afternoon, picked it up, brought it home, cleaned it up, and just this last week completed my first quilt on it, quilting and all. Thank you for your continuing inspiration!

  143. I don't know if this is considered "lucky" but my husband and I have caring for my elderly Aunt who has Alzheimers & Parkinson for 3 1/2 years. It takes a toll on us in so many ways. Needless to say we aren't able to leave her alone, so we never get away. Her condition has declined and now we have hospice on our team. Beside the benefit she receives, they will care for her for 5 days & nights in a row, once per month. Whether we go anywhere or not, time to ourselves is good. For me, it will mean I can focus on some quilting. Thanks for being you & sharing will all of us.

My DH does all the cooking so I am able to spend all (or most) of my spare time quilting, or at least piddling in my sewing room. I plan to subscribe to Quiltmaker this year (just haven't gotten around to it yet) but I am very excited about your new Mystery. Love the color choices too. So I wouldn't mind winning this first issue to be able to get an early start. Will be joining you on quiltcam this afternoon. Finishing up Easy Street!! Thanks for all you do for us. You are loved!!!

  146. WOW! What a great issue! Glad I just started a subscription. Now I won't miss an issue.

  147. I was really lucky to not get hit right in the head by a 4"x4" piece of lumber that was flying through the air right at me on interstate 81. It flew off a tractor trailer. Thankfully I hit the brakes and swerved partway into the passing lane. As a result the 4 x 4 bounced right in front of me slammed down on my hood and went sailing over my car to be heard bouncing on the road behind me.How's that for lucky? Blessed even!

Happy Birthday Bonnie. This mystery looks awesome, I love the colours. Yes I am a Canadian living in Virginia.

  148. Wow! I am lucky to have so many great friends, and my best luck, was getting my new Irish son-in-law Kevin. He loves my daughter so very much, and they are so very happy. The knew each other in high school, and lost contact for 10 years. Thanks to the internet and their high school reunion they go together and dated long distance from northern Oregon, to Southern CA for over one year. Then they decided they were to be married, and now they are living in San Diego. I wish I had news about an impending grandchild, but not yet. We love Kevin and he is a great addition to our family! 149. Magazine looks like a great one. Well my luckiest, most blessed, wonderful fantastic, (ok, you get the picture) day was this. Hubby and I dated in the '60's ohhh just dated myself, well anyway I went to college he got drafted and we drifted apart. He married someone else...I married someone else, neither were successful. One evening I was visiting with the man that tends my parents and now my farm and he said I needed to join Classmates because some of my class mates had asked about me. I said I'd think about it. Well, one day I joined Classmates and within a week I had an email from my now hubby (we didn't attend the same school). He had been looking for me and long story short we have been married a little over 10 years now. He is my soul mate and my biggest cheerleader for my quiltmaking and before I came along he had purchased a sewing machine and repaired it but wasn't sure about the sewing part. Now he is a sewing machine repairman but all machines must pass my sewing test before it can leave the house. I guess my luckiest day was joining Classmates and I have been blessed ever since.

  150. Wow. Thats a lot of comments dont know how youll choose. I have a lucky cat. He was found under the hood of a car just behind the fan belt. The woman heard the little meow when she got to work about 13 miles from the parking lot she had seen kittens around the trash bin. I adopted him after she nursed him to health. He is on my lap now.
Oh yeah, and I finishe Easy St yesterday, borders too. Now for the quilting.

Luck? Hmmmm......when I feel down I count my blessings and soon realize I don't have much to complain about. I'm lucky (blessed) to have a sound mind, a sound body, a supportive (tolerant/long-suffering) husband, and sufficient wealth to be able to enjoy life and greet each day with anticipation for the good and interesting things that will come.

I am lucky to have a husband and son who take care of me and support my sewing habit. Since I can't get out my son will go to the store and pick up fabric for me. He'll meet people at weird locations to pick up supplies I find on free cycle. I'm lucky to have found Bonnie Hunter so that I can use all my recycled fabrics.

  163. Your Jubilee quilt blocks are looking nice. Thanks for the "tip" of the ironing tip to just take care of the seam so as to not distort the geese unit. I love watching you work and how you set things up to be so streamlined. Here is your get out "guilt" jail card . . . it is okay to make a mess in your studio during the creative process. You can always clean-up when it gets to be too much -- which you intutively do!!

  167. When I was a new quilter, I took my 4 children and my new little one out to garage sales looking for ways to feed my lovely new obsession. After the advertised sales, we came upon a homemade sign at a teeny little old stone home with the yard overflowing. I was THRILLED with all the fabric ALL over...but, the VERY old woman would not quote me a price on the pieces. I kept asking and she kept stalling and asking me and the children questions. Her eyes lit up when I delighted at some of the sweet vintage pieces, but I was concerned about prices and didn't want to pile things up without knowing. She kept asking me about my sewing and I showed her the log cabin pieces I'd been doing with a friend. She told me her family was forcing her to go into a nursing home and she did NOT want to. She wouldn't be able to sew there. We talked HOURS. She cried and I found out where she'd be taken to and promised to come visit. I told her I'd bring some of my sewing for her to see. When suppertime was approaching, I asked ANOTHER time if she could quote me a price on some of the lovely pieces before I left. Her family was going to put every bit of it in the TRASH, so she said I could take ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I wanted for $5. The next day anything not gone, was going in the trash pick-up, so the children helped me load every space in our mini-van. I am still using some of Ida's sweet pieces, but even better "the lifetime stash of treats, was meeting Ida. I took pieces in to show her and she gave me input and was blessed by the children. Like our Bonnie, she would say, "If it is ugly, cut it smaller" and encourage scrappiness. We all fell in love because I had time and stopped at an interesting sale. Ida has since passed on, but having known her was a blessing and I still use many of her lovely old vintage pieces that she'd cared for so well and saved FOR ME without even knowing I'd show up. Yes, lucky for sure.~

I won one of the Quiltmaker's Treasure Chest giveaways two years ago. It was SO exciting to receive my wonderful goodies. I am looking forward to the Companion Angle ruler info in the new issue. I have been using them for Easy Street. I have owned them for YEARS and never used them. They have been getting a real workout. Thanks for all you do and have a wonderful birthday.

  179. Dear Bonnie,
Welcome home. It's so good to see you again on quiltcam.
My lucky moment is that 20plus years ago, I went into the store my husband worked in at the time to price the cost of an electronic typewriter as I had started working part time and wanted to learn to type. Long story short, I never got the typewriter, but my luck was that I got my loving husband, 2 beautiful children (a son and a daughter). We have been married for just over 20years now and he indulges my hobbies.

  191. Today is a lucky day for me. It is my 23rd wedding anniversary and I am married to my best friend. I feel very lucky to have met Eric and having him so supportive of what I do. Actually, Eric is the person who introduced me to sewing and quilting and the person I can "blame" for my addiction. Another lucky day for me was when I learned about you and your blog. I have learned so much over the years and enjoy reading your blog, watching QuiltCam, and doing your Easy Street mystery!

Wow, I LOVE St. Patricks Day because that was the day, 25 years ago this year, that I met the Love Of My Life....we ran into each other in SF, I was with my friend, he was with a former roommates brother...several dates later we knew it was meant to be....and 22+ years later, we are still very much in love and very much each other's best friends...and he puts up with my sewing/quilting "messes". Now that's what I call lucky!
Oh and BTW, Happy 29th Birthday!!

We needed to buy a bunch of stuff from Sams club. 2 of those items were 2 L shaped desks for hubby and me in additon to anotehr huge cart of items. When we got home we discovered they had rang it up wrong and charged for 2 desks. But upon return trying to do the correct thing. They told it was corect. So we ended up with a buy one get one free desk...That was pretty lucky.

  197. My lucky day was yesterday! My quilt guild had a workshop yesterday. We learned to make Fractured Flowers. We needed to use a 1/8 inch seam, instead of the normal 1/4 inch we are all used to using. Luckily for me, after you showed us the Janome Clearview Quilting foot, I bought one - and it has 1/8 inch seam markings! While everyone else was figuring out how to get a reliable 1/8 inch seam, I was off and running! I am finishing the project this afternoon while I watch Quilt Cam. Thanks!
