Help the families in Newtown... Here is how... Becky at Quliter's Corner in New Milford, CT is collecting pillowcases for the children at Sandy Hook School. She is trying to collect around 600.
There is not enough time to make quilts, but could you whip up a couple of child themed pillow cases for these children who DID survive the shooting? Let them feel our outpouring of love and concern. Surround them with Quilter’s hugs from everywhere. It wouldn’t take any time to whip up a couple and get them in the mail.

I tried to find more info from Becky at the Quilter’s Corner website, but it isn’t listed – what I’m thinking is that they are looking for anything kid themed, boy or girl – bright, happy --- but as there are many belief systems living in that area, that we don’t do anything “specifically” Christmas themed. Keep it something they can use more than just through Christmas!

What a thoughtful idea. If they collect enough for the students, they should also consider the families of the children that are now gone.

Blankets/quilts are being distributed by Project Linus, so the pillowcases will be a perfect addition....

I have 7 mostly boy style all cut out and mostly sewn together!
As I understand from a Project Linus coordinator, PL will be sending quilts (or fleece blankets) for every child. They are already on their way.

Four pillow cases fit perfectly in a Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope. Mine are on their way East. Thanks for passing along this information Bonnie.
I already sent one! I have been making quite a few of these for Christmas presents and had an extra so mailed it today, since I had already seen this on a Facebook group! But it's wonderful to spread the message to as many people as possible.
I have some already made. I have to check to see if any can be used for that age group. I would be able to get a couple out on Thursday....

We could also make no sew fleece blankets. They only take about an hour to do, at most. If everyone made one to go with the pillow cases that they are making to send, then they can curl up under their blankets and lay their sweet little heads on the pillow cases. :)
I just sent off an e-mail to 5 of my quilting buddies, and I am going to try and get some done this week There is a deadline - they have to have them back in the quilt shop by Dec. 27th. And yes, I think that they are looking from bright colors and kids prints. There was a posting on Canton Fabrics on FB, and she showed some sets that she had put together to make her pillowcases. I also read that the Project Linus people (collectively) were sending quilts for the children.
Thanks to Karen for answering my question. I'll get some made and sent off tomorrow. I made them for my grandchildren all year. I know how much they love theirs.

I made a bunch of kids pillow cases that didn't sell at a craft fair. I figured I must still have them for a reason. This is why.
A very sad reason, but I hope they bring a little comfort.

Reminds me of the stockings that were done for the children of the 9/11 victims,will try to get some of these done too.
I was just devastated by the news and overwhelmed with the longing to reach out and hug everyone in Newton. This is such a great way to send our love in the mail! I will be making one tomorrow and sending it out immediately! Thank you so much!
Mine are in the mail. You are right, it doesn't take long to stitch these up and hopefully it will bring a smile to the face of these children who have lost so much. There simply are no words.
