I'm in the mood for simple string piecing after the Jamestown Landing workshop in Centreville, VA yesterday.
I've cut some foundation squares and grabbed some handfuls of green strips ---I want to make simple green string blocks ---an idea is brewing.
Are you ready? Bring a project, come hang out!

Working on my Tulip Fields and started to sew the brown squares on the light rectangles for Tumbleweed-will finish cutting as I need to when I get to where I need more! Tired of cutting for a while!
Bonnie, Loved your pictures of you Fall time walk! I am wondering how often you switch our your sewing machine needles? I haven't done it ever (in 3 years), but haven't had any problems. Is that wrong? :-) Thoughts gladly accepted!
Hi Bonnie! Have spent the day at the Knitting and Stitching Show here in London, telling anyone who will listen what a great site you have! Any hints about fabrics colours for the Mystery yet? I will be back at the Show tomorrow and could shop for anything I'm missing - like I need an excuse!
The Greenshirt girls from Hershey got together today and talked a lot about your mystery quilt, we can't wait! Enjoy your day at home and safe travels!
I didn't expect to see you on tonight. I seem to have been missing quilt cam! I've been out quilting for most of the day. The girls were quilting until about nine. Got tired - figured if I kept going, I'd be making mistakes. Wasn't up for that, but got a lot done today - especially the back for my queen sized quilt. Used one of your "tricks" and used a left over strip of blocks to make up the half width that I needed. Love the look!
Hi Bonnie, I'm traveling in Travers City Michigan. Thanks to you, I experienced Culvers ice cream. If anyone in Quiltville gets a chance to go there, DO IT! Bonnie wasn't exaggerating. Luckily for me, It's right down the street from the condo I'm staying in. Also luckily for me there is a shop hop going on. I visited two today and hope to get to more while I'm here. Great to see you on quilt cam again.
Bonnie, just wanted to let you know that I found (and bought) a pink Atlas machine this week at my local thrift shop. It is just like the one you showed on your blog a week or so ago. Mine is not quite as pristine as yours, has a little wear on the front of the bed, but it sews like a charm. Paid $25 for it. Kynomi
Bonnie, I've been working on some Candy Corn Trick or Treat Bags, but hope to get some piecing done tomorrow. I have a paper piecing block I'm working on. You will be at my Friend's Guild in Floyd tomorrow! I love that area of Virginia, especially since my Grandson lives in Hillsville! I always make a point of stopping at the Old School House Quilt Shop in Floyd when I visit. So many nice places to explore there. Enjoy!
Hi Watching you from my hotel room in Madison, WI with my DH. He can't believe the treadle machine and thinks your studio is nice. I want him to see your white cabinets because I want some too. Son's Lacrosee tournament was cancelled due to rainy weather. Long drive out here. Love watching you.
My fancy dancy light came in the mail today (not IKEA) ...now all I have to do is put it together and I will be able to REALLY see when I'm sewing. Thanks for telling us about them.
Hi Bonnie, Suzanne from Cape Cod, Mass here. Missed seeing you on quilt cam so I am very happy to see you to modivate me. I have been sick all week and haven't been doing any sewing. I am working on a bag pattern/kit that a friend gave me. I have one question on the mystery quilt -- where will you be putting the clues? Just under Mystery Quilts? Just wanted to make sure that I know where to look.
Hi Bonnie!! Just wanted to thank you for his amazing technology...First time, I've watched you live and can't tell you how thrilled I am...Skye from Montana!!
Hi Bonnie have missed quiltcam. I am working on some wool felt. I made your beef stew recipe today and it was so good. I bought a singer 338 made in the 1960's last weekend at a yard sale.I think I need to stop watching you sew on your vintage machines because then I want them too.
Bonnie, I missed if you said what size blocks you are "stripping" tonight. Enquiring minds want to know.
My daughter has caught my love of vintage machines. To replace a current model big-box store machine that has failed her, at my suggestion she hunted down and bought from the original owner a beautiful Rocketeer in cabinet, now named Roxie. Next to get her to start quilting....
Hi Bonnie! This is my first time catching you live, so excited!! Can't wait to start my string quilt, Thank you thank you!! Anne from Battle Ground, Washington.
Do your vintage machine have round bobbins? Or a shuttle? I have never used a shuttle before and I have a vintage machine made in 1911 and it has a shuttle...
i have been procrastinating all day...i hope you wont be offended that i do dishes while watching??? anyone up for joining me? quilting must wait until after chores, this week!
Hi Bonnie, Still trying to find cabin mate. Hopefully, I have a conection for the cruise. Really want to go. Just finished a trip around the world top for Linus. Hope to take a lesson on a longarm to quilt it. That is the plan. Started working on a scrappy mountain majesty last nigh. Ramona from Maine
I don't know what is wrong tonight--I have watched you before, but tonight I only get sound, no picture. The ad played fine, but when you come on it is dark. I tried rebooting, but no luck. Bummer.
I am packing for a 5 day retreat next week and I have desided to make it a bonnie hunter retreat. I have taken 5 of your classes and now it is time to finish them. Glad you are on. Lisa from Fayetteville
You just answered my question! Thank you! What a great idea! I just got a phone book in my mailbox and was going to throw it away, but now I know what I can use it for!
Hi Bonnie! So glad to have you back on quiltcam. I am in my jammies tonite, snuggled in bed with my laptop. Need to get to bed early tonite and you are so much better than tv! Love the big quilt behind you, what is it called and is it in any of your books? Thanks so much.
Hi Bonnie I am hand quilting in Ontario Canada while watching quiltcam tonight. Wish I was treadling too, but my belt snapped off this week. Will have to find a place to buy a new belt. Thanks for the quilty fun on a Saturday night!
Hi Bonnie - I haven't sewn in about six months, but tomorrow I'm packing for a three day retreat with my mom, sister, and friends at a cottage. They are all scrapbookers, but I don't discriminate! Watching you tonight makes me want to leap out of bed and give my machine a thorough clean AND CHANGE THE NEEDLE!
Bought some new jammies today ( ON SALE! ) and downloaded some sangria recipes. I'm looking forward to my little holiday.
Hello from south-western Ontario, Canada. I just found you! Do you get a muscle spasm in your back when piecing on your feather weight? I think it's the ergonomics. Do you raise your chair or compensate some other way? Thanks so much, Linda
Hello....caught you...12.51pm Sunday 14th in Australia, beautiful sunny Spring day. I am enjoying string piecing & learning more from Sring Fling.....Luv Annette
My first time tuning in and it's so good to see you. You are the very first blog I subscribed to when I discovered blogging! Working on a Laker Log Cabin quilt this evening for my son this evening in So Cal. What's your favorite batting to hand quilt with?
Quilt Cam is my time to do hand sewing as my computer is on the other side of the basement. I have gotten a couple dozen hexie shapes wrapped with fabric-now just have to wait for you to get home again to get them sewn into the piece!! Sew glad you made a trip home as I was also having withdrawal!!!
Hi Bonnie, this is Diana from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Love Quiltcam. Just returned home from the Colours of Fall Craft show in the Grand Bend area. Sister makes primitive, rustic dolls, ornaments, etc. It was very cold .... nice to be warm and cozy watching Quiltcam. I love your new book and thanks for the signed copy. It was sitting at the USA shipping depot and they forgot to email me. I love all your scrappy ideas and continue to build my Bonnie Hunter scrap strip system. Hope to be able to see you someday in person, perhaps in Ontario, Canada sometime? Diana
I'm so excited that I finally caught you on QuiltCam! I check often, but never seem to be online at the right time. It's really fun to be able to quilt with you.
I'm wondering what widths of strips you use when you make your string blocks? Do you have a maximum and a minimum width that you prefer to work with? I'm starting to collect strings, but I'm not really sure how narrow and how wide I can go and still get the right effect.
Hi Bonnie, Just finished the final border on my quilt top. Binding is sewn together and will be pressed before the night is done. Thanks for quilt-cam tonight. It helps me stick to my project. :)
Hi Bonnie, I'm home in Canberra after a quilting retreat in Tasmania- so much fun, so many scraps! You would have soooo loved to dig through everyone's remnants. Its good to see you again on Quilt Cam.
Hello Bonnie, I am so glad that I finally get to wach you. I have several things going on for me tonight. I am not only packing up my sewing room but trying to get some homework done too. Thanks for the cam time.
I am taking the evening off, but love watching the quilt cam. Thanks for sharing tidbits with us as you work. Out of curiousity, do these green sting blocks have anything to do with your Ireland trip???? LOL
Hi Bonnie, so enjoying quiltcam tonight. I am away from home in a hotel room, and you are keeping me company. I love hearing you talk about all of your vintage machines. I have a Kenmore that was bought for me in 1974. I was in the 9th grade at the time. The bobbin case fell apart recently and when I tried to get a new one, I was told that they don't make parts for that machine anymore. I was heartbroken! Since then I met someone who had an extra, now my machine from my high school days is as good as new; but my question to you is, with all of your vintage machine collecting, how do you know that you will be able to replace parts that are needed?
I heard you just mention about the one button on your featherweight pedal. I also have a featherweight but contacted Singer and purchased a different pedal and absolutely love sewing on it now, I could never keep an even speed with the one button pedal.
Just caught you at the end of quilt cam. I'm putting on two borders of Talkin Turkey. Atfer church tomorrow, I'll work on finishing that quilt. an't wait to see it finished! ll post a pix on me blog when I put the last stitch in the top.
Loved the quiltcam. It felt as if you were sitting with me sewing and talking. I was so into waching for the first time I did not do any sewing. Next time I'll be prepared. Thanks for the music and singing. Sonia
I enjoyed your quiltcam. I think I have finally figured out how to post comments. I have had a high tech learning weekend. Figured out how to load and use an Ipod and a Kindle - now the blog comments are working. Thanks for all the motivation you give all your followers and students.
