We have been hard at it all day -- just returned from yet another trip to Lowes! We brought home the insulation board for the design wall -- I've picked up what I'm going to cover it with ((more to come on that)) and we also stopped by Sam's Club to pick up 2 infared heaters to take care of the no-heat problem down here.
This is a pic of the back of Shamu packed to the gills!
Right now I'm aiming to spend some machine time and would love to have you come join in. I'm rewarding myself with a break to work on my Moth in a Window blocks.
Are you ready? Bring a project, come hang out!

Hi Bonnie, I didn't get in on the cheddar bow ties but I love your quilt so I'm going to do the spools with cheddar background. I'm excited about that, the new mystery and the Ireland trip. Thank you for all you do for us. Denise
I made it! The video occasionally resets itself and goes back a few seconds and replays the same bit again, which is odd but at least I have both video AND sound so I feel lucky ;) Working on a binding while I watch you :)
I voted :) Just had to tell you I have some binders too...one of them has ALL of your stuff in it Bonnie! So nice to be able to find things when I need them. I put them in page protectors too, easy to pull out use and keep in good shape!
Hello!! Joining in from Erie! Working on a quilt for my son and new wife (havent met her yet...long story...but very happy). Ok...goal...listen to quilt cam, get top sewn today, quilt tomorrow, and binding. Pray for me....lol
Thank you Bonnie for taking the time to do the Quilt Cam again. Love to see your Bow Tie quilt in the background. Last week you had a quilt back there that looked like some kind of star quilt. What pattern was it (if you remember)? It looked really nice, too. Glad to hear your safe from the hurricane. Hopefully hurricanes are about done for the year. Thanks again for the quilt cam time. Love to see you and what you are working on and for the great tips!
Hi Bonnie: Receiving audio & video here in Central FL fine. I updated my Flash Player earlier this week and haven't had feed problems since, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Actually, it's working better today than it has the last week or so. I think besides the "look" Ustream must have changed something a week or so ago, because before that it always ran well for me. Now it's spotty. I know it's not anything different you're doing. The internet is a blessing and curse, isn't it?
Hi Bonnie, It seems to be working fine now. So glad you're making progress on your projects. I'm taking a break from chores to sew with you. Thanks for giving me an excuse to sew! Susan In CT (Waiting for Sandy) :)
Haven't commented in a while. No problems seeing you on my iphone, but I can't comment without losing the stream, so had to wait until I had the laptop. Your stream is coming in smoothly today.
Love the bowties in the background. Wish I had played with that one. I totally agree with the log cabin comment, and I think I'll cut some of my more random pieces into those 1 1/2" strips.
I've been reading your blog from the very beginning, and it's funny how some things change, and some stay the same! Thanks for both your blogging and your webcam!
Speaking of pieced backs...do you have a particular method you use? I'm piecing a back now but decided to make 15" blocks because I couldn't figure out where to start. Have another one to do using three fabrics. Thanks for any suggestions.
The video is working fine here in SC. Working on a project started last weekend at the QSC retreat. Your name was mentioned by several quilters in our class. Wishing you had been there to give massages. Late Saturday night I thought I was having muscle spasms in my rear end. Turned out my chair was touching the table where someone was sewing. My spasms were just the vibrations from her machine!
I so know what you mean about taking stock of your fabric!!! I get overwhelmed when I come to my "Down-under Sweat Shop" (name for my sewing room) and see ALLLLLLL this fabric. I too will be piecing backs for huge scraps blocks I plan to make from all my scraps! Some days I think I'm coming down to sew and I just go right back up because of the overwhelming feeling! :(
I am heading to Wal-Mart in a few. Can you show the package and or the blanket that you ended up buying for your design wall? Thanks for sharing! June in AZ
Marking and picking stitches to hem some pants for my sister. When that is done, I will reward myself paper piecing (my first time!) a Halloween wall hanging for my grandgirl. THEN to measure and cut borders for a king sized quilt for my DD.
Have you in the kitchen with me making mash potatoes for the mash potatoes bar at our church carnival tomorrow. Wishing I could sit down and sew instead. Are you ready for Sandy?
I am working on a photo album for my mom. We have a group that has gone on a shop hop for 11 years now. I am taking scraps and sewing them on cardstock to create a page for each year we have gone on the trip. Will add photos to the opposite pages and present next weekend when we go for our 12th year!
Hello from Lynne(an Englishwoman)in Normandy France. I have you on screen now after a shaky start! I wanted to ask you - in your early books you talked about cutting light and dark scraps. Now I hear you talk of using "neutrals" ie anything from white, cream, beige through to tan... So can I ask - where do pastels fit in with you now? I have lots of pastel scraps! I've just finished a "Scrappy Irish Chain" top made from some of my leaders and enders - needs quilting now!
Hi Bonnie from eight quilters on retreat in Indiana! As we work on leaders and enders, we are looking forward to taking your classes at the IN Heritage Quilt Snow in March! So excited about your upcoming Mystery Quilt!! Any heads-up hints for us??
Bonnie, I am trying to figure out how to put a binding on a hexagon quilt with all different degrees of angles on two edges . I know to do bias, but I don't know how to do the folds at the odd degree angles. HELP???

Hi Bonnie! My friends and I are at the library for our quilting day and are enjoying having you join us here in Seattle. Debbie 2 is working on pinning a quilt, Madaline is basting a quilt, Linda is working on a baby quilt and I am making a pieced sashing. It's time for spaghetti lunch break!
Working on some pillow covers for my son's 4th grade classroom...glad to have company! Bonnie, would love to see you talk about squaring up fabrics and cutting tips someday :)
I will quilt in my mind while you're talking.... grading TONS of work... who was the idiot that assigned all of this at the end of the marking period LOL
Hi Bonnie, working on nothing, little under the weather but watching trying to get a inspiration.. what machine are you using. sorry if you already said. My first machine looked like that . sure wish I still had it. Joen in Etexas
lol.. now it says your off air... :( oh well, back to sorting and cutting this box of scraps.. Cutting the scraps down to 3", 2.5", 2", 1.5" and 1" pieces..
Bonnie - was so excited to see I could join you from here in Germany for this quilt cam. I'm working on the binding of my Story Time Stars-inspired quilt. I changed the size/setting, and made it with non-checkerboarded sashings, but I absolutely love the design. Oh, and I have monochromatic crumb blocks in my centers.
All that aside, thank you so much for doing quilt cam...I've never met you but this makes me feel like I know you at least a little!
I'm working on my postage stamp quilt. I just finished laying out another row of blocks and am now back at the machine sewing the squares together. I'm over half done with my quilt top now.
Couldn't stand it any longer. After watching your cheddar bow ties for the past few weeks, I ordered cheddar fabric and I'm cutting cheddar bow ties today.
Enjoying your quilt cam. I have been quilting up a storm while my hubby has been pheasant hunting in South Dakota this week. I have even done a little tidying up my sewing room.
Hey Bonnie ,I've just finished a Halloween costume for hubby and now I'm having tea & watching you . After tea ,I'm doing black & white leader/ enders in between my xmas gifts . Beth in Cape Breton .
Hi Bonnie, have you looked in pretzel jar for your piece of material you are looking for, I remember the other night that you had the top off of it, maybe you accidently put the piece into it.
Hi Bonnie! I am thinking it is the storm with the bad connections. Nothing on ipad in sewing room, so came to DIning Rm on main computer and see you, sound coming in and out. Not complaining, I'll take anything I can get of ya!~ Just letting you know. I really do think it's the storm, as I've NEVER had a problem. This is a first.
Hi Bonnie, Thanks for going on Quilt Cam again! I came across a box of "ugly florals" in my stash and wondered - Who put those in when I wasn't looking? I divided them in half and issued a Ugly Floral Challenge to my girlfriend. Made my first string block today - from you Virginia Bound pattern. I LOVE IT. Thank you so much for completely changing my opinion of fabric. It really is all about value. Wish I could add a picture. Your the best!! I'll send a picture when the quilt is finished. I'm heading on retreat next weekend and will get a lot done. Happy sewing, Dianne
Hi Bonnie, I love your scrappy quilts. They remind me of the quilts my mom made from her kids' out-grown clothes. She saved every usable scrap. You're her kind of gal.
Bonnie, Thanks for dong quilt cam. I was wondering when you feed your stash, do you choose fabrics by color or do you just buy what catches your eye. I haven't had any trouble viewng this afternoon.
i take back what I said about the stream being steady - it's cutting in and out, and mostly out now. ugh. Well, when it works, we really enjoy visiting with you. I always learn so much.
Bonnie, the man at Lowes said that every time you stick a pin in foam core board the hole remains when you pull the pin out so over time it will not hold the pins. He recommended sound board which I bought and covered with flannel for my design wall.
Someone mentioned in comments in pas couple days about a brilliant idea with paint chips. Could you repeat for those of use who missed it, pretty please?
Hello to Audrey in Ripley NY from Nancy near Peek'n Peak. Looked for you comment, could not find, but I heard Bonnie read your name. So that is at least 2 quiltville cam fans in Chautuauqua County.
Denmark is looking again.....just wonderful to see and hear you here saturday evening.... I will go to my sewingmachine and sew together with you. I sew babyquilts for a local project for young families. Inge-Lise from Denmark
I support your belief that the ads are a necessary evil. I can't afford to subscribe to a service so I would miss out. Thank you for keeping it free. Lush
Hi Bonnie again Now I can see you, I am on my lazy mood today and sewing 2 1/2 in strips to make an hexagon quilt( hexagons way bigger than yours) and the same time washing my cheddar kona to start cutting and sewing my bow-tie quilt, Can't wait to start it!!! Thanks for sharing your time with us. Mirtes from Orlando - Florida
Bonnie, you will love your foam core board. I just got one and love being able to just pop in a pin. My new kitten likes it too! She thinks it is her personal climbing wall, lol.
I can't help it, but with all the times that you and the hubby have been to Lowe's I imagine that you walk in to the store and all the employees wave and say "Hi Bonnie, Hi Dave....what can we get ya today?" :)
Hi Bonnie Gisele in Jersey UK here, connection still a bit shaky here but hanging in with you tonite still stitching my baskets. Loving your moth in the window blocks :)
Hi Bonnie! I love sewing along with you, although I must admit I spend more time watching you sew than sewing myself! :-( I've been staring at your bowtie quilt, (Love it!) and I have a question: When you do a scrappy quilt like that, with small blocks, do you need to have a constant (one single cheddar fabric, in your case) or could I use all different cheddars, as well as all different bowtie fabrics? Would the bowties get lost in all that busyness? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks for all you do for the quilting community!
In my longarm studio I had a stuffed monkey that watched me quilt ... A group of us went to Paducah KY to the quilt show in 2008 and I won him out of a machine at a service station when we stopped to eat lunch at a Subway. We named him paduckey. I sent him to Adalia Rose last month.
Hi Bonnie, I enjoy getting to watch your creative process while you work on things that aren't yet ready for sharing patterns! It inspires me to try new things without having a finished project in mind.. let's me "play" a little. Thanks! Meg in Michigan
Hi Bonnie, watching from California, the other night when you lost the little square, it was under the triangles yiou dumped out from your jar to shiow us, and I thinkj it got put back in the jar with the triangles, love the quilkt cam Lois
Bonnie have you any hints on how to stop your machine vibrating and making noise when you sew. Mine is a brand new machine and it doesnt half vibrate Ingrid
I have been enjoying WATCHING you sew......I guess it is time for me to go make some progress on my TALKIN TURKEY quilt. I love this one. In fact I love all of the quilts in your STRING FLING book.
Just a little FYI for everyone wanting to purchase the Quiltmaker Magazine with Moth in a Window pattern since it is no longer available. I just purchased the full magazine on ebay for $5.95 with free shipping.
I'm so glad you're still quilt camming! I just finished tutoring precalculus, so now I can tune in. I'm thrilled that I didn't miss the whole time. I'm working on marking diagonals on squares for my sister's choice quilt. Glad to finally make it into the sewing room.
Hi Bonnie, I've just finished sorting the hexies. I've got reds, greens, oranges, yellows, blues, greys and browns in my coloured ones.......then there are the neutrals........I've got to re-think doing a medallion style similar to yours with these colours. I've also just started a binder with your patterns in......thanks so much sharing your talents with us. Lisa in South Africa
Enjoyed watching quiltcam while I worked on attaching the borders to two tops that I was working on at quilt retreat last weekend. Here is a picture of one of them all done: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucysquilts/8128996502/in/photostream I have caught quiltcam only a couple of times but it was never when I could be in the sewing room so didn't enjoy it as much as today. I usually find out you had quiltcam after the fact.
Sorry I missed you this afternoon. I am not sure how to get in touch with anyone who will give me the cutting directions for the Moth in the Window block. I would love to use the center block for beginners and enders but need more info.
I've looked on Quiltmaker and that month's issue is not longer available. :-(
Anyone want to share cutting directions for block, please?

So funny Bonnie. I just did the same thing with all my magazines. 4 years worth. I did a few each night while lying in bed.
I made it! The video occasionally resets itself and goes back a few seconds and replays the same bit again, which is odd but at least I have both video AND sound so I feel lucky ;) Working on a binding while I watch you :)

I can't help it, but with all the times that you and the hubby have been to Lowe's I imagine that you walk in to the store and all the employees wave and say "Hi Bonnie, Hi Dave....what can we get ya today?" :)
ahhhh I almost missed it!! I had the video set to start but my pc went to sleep... Lazy rascal! ha!
Today I've started a quick Christmas quilt for my daughter ... 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain .. so appliquing the center .. :D

Caught you on quilt cam here in the UK today at last! Thoroughly enjoyed it?
Hi Bonnie
Gisele in Jersey UK here, connection still a bit shaky here but hanging in with you tonite still stitching my baskets.
Now I need another studio mascot.
Thank you! Yes, very good idea. You always do your best for us, that's why we love you. Looking forward to it, rotary cutter and rulers at the ready!

Hi Bonnie,
I enjoy getting to watch your creative process while you work on things that aren't yet ready for sharing patterns! It inspires me to try new things without having a finished project in mind.. let's me "play" a little.
Thanks!

I am counting the days until your next mystery.
TAKE CARE and THANKS FOR THE SHOW!

Hi Bonnie-
Just a little FYI for everyone wanting to purchase the Quiltmaker Magazine with Moth in a Window pattern since it is no longer available.

What do you mean no one gets anything done while you're on.... I got ALLLLL of my grading accomplished!!!
Yahooo!! I can sew tomorrow
did you find your fabric piece?

Hi Bonnie, I've just finished sorting the hexies. I've got reds, greens, oranges, yellows, blues, greys and browns in my coloured ones.......then there are the neutrals........I've got to re-think doing a medallion style similar to yours with these colours. I've also just started a binder with your patterns in......thanks so much sharing your talents with us. Lisa in South Africa
Sorry to have missed you today...just returned from a sew saturday with my quilty friends.
Enjoyed watching quiltcam while I worked on attaching the borders to two tops that I was working on at quilt retreat last weekend. Here is a picture of one of them all done: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lucysquilts/8128996502/in/photostream
I have caught quiltcam only a couple of times but it was never when I could be in the sewing room so didn't enjoy it as much as today.
No particular method other than USE THAT FABRIC! I do measure carefully so the backs are square and flat :)
What size is the center of your moth in the window block?
