On News Stands Now --- GIVE-AWAY!

***Update!*** This drawing has CLOSED! Congrats to our winner, Susan Torrens!

My issues of the latest Quiltmaker Magazine May/June 2012 were here on my counter waiting for me when I walked in the door yesterday afternoon!

This is such a wonderful issue, full of summery quilt ideas --- and this issue comes with an “EXTRA BONUS” There is a double sided pull out of quilting motifs PERFECT to fit the quilts in this magazine, or to add to your collection of ideas for the quilting on future quilts!

I collect quilting designs. You never know when you are going to need them, or when just looking through them leads to the inspiration on how to best quilt that project.

My Addicted to Scraps column is always a surprise to me. I never know what they are going to choose for where, because I send a whole year’s worth in at once – and then the “powers that be” decide which block I’ve sent in will fit which issue best. So I quickly have to get into the magazine and find my page --- it’s like Christmas!

OH! They chose "THIS ONE!" I've been waiting for them wondering when it will show up!

I love this block --- I’ve named my version “Whirly Girly!”

QMMP-120200-SCRAP_200_11269

I consider myself a very traditional quilter ---and taking a traditional block with a very MASCULINE name, like “Propeller” and doing it in the shades of spring --- pinks, greens, red ---gives it a “Girly” feel that I like! This reminds me of the flowers that were waiting for me in my yard when we pulled into the drive yesterday --- my azaleas are blooming!

MolineIL2012 280

The gals at Quiltmaker took my block and worked up a sample layout:

145addictedtoscrapslayout

Do you see how you can get a secondary pinwheel design if you set them block to block? The center bars of the block become a sashing! It totally changes the look! You can also set this block with an alternate block, put it on point, sash it – the options are endless. You don’t even have to do it scrappy. Pick a color scheme ---

Check out the previous “Addicted to Scraps” blocks by clicking HERE!

MolineIL2012 288

Would you like to win a copy of Quiltmaker’s Magazine May/June issue? I have one extra copy! Leave me a comment below--- I’ll draw for it on Saturday Evening. And if you can't wait that long --you'll find it on news stands near you NOW!

Remember, if you are commenting as anonymous, or if you have not made it so your email address is accessible when you comment, you NEED to leave me a name and an email address in your comment to be eligible.

And speaking of this Saturday! It’s the first Saturday of the Month which means --- YARD SALE SATURDAY! I will have a few things to list. Those who want to join me, write your blog post with your items, and come link it to mine Saturday morning. I’m going live at 7am eastern time. I know it’s the day before Easter for many of you, but let’s see what we can pull together! Any questions? Just email me!

Bonnie,
We just got back from a cruise where I didn't have anything QUILTY the whole 2 weeks we were gone. I'm needing a pick-me-up and this magazine would certainly do the trick! Love, love, love the block!

Ever since I discovered your site several years ago, I've been addicted to making scrappy quilts! My husband calls them "garbage quilts" because he threatened to throw my 15 year collection of scraps in the garbage unless I started to use them. I used your "scrap users" system to get them organized and now they get used regularly. I still think that they reproduce in the bins when I'm not looking!

Carol said...

Your azaleas make me homesick! The farm house I grew up in Florida was surrounded by these beauties, they were old and had grown to the tops of the porches. I loved spring when they would bloom and the bees would visit...it was like living in a pink and purple castle! Sadly where I am living at the moment in NC I don't have a single azalea! I think I might have to head to the garden center and grab some azaleas this spring!

I love the idea of the BONUS EXTRA and I do wish more magazines would give suggestions/patterns for the quilting designs - I never find "quilt as desired" very helpful and it is often difficult to see the quilting in the photos of the finished quilts... What a lovely latest block - it looks so versatile!

Your azaleas are beautiful! I think they chose this block for this issue because of the fresh, springlike feel it has.

Congratulations on your awards this week! Well deserved my friend!

I loved that you were in John Deere country this week. I'm a rabid JD fan. My Daddy had a JD tractor and the picture I carry of him in my purse is him on his tractor. So I collect JD to remind me of my Daddy who's lived in Heaven for almost 30 years and would have been 102 this July. John Deere green is a beautiful color.

Thanks for the memories you helped stir. Very sweet.

I sure would love that magazine because things are now a little tight. I read your blog daily and am blown away by all that you accomplish.

Bonnie,
I shared your website with a friend today that received a TON of quilting fabric from a gentleman that lost his wife. This was the result of two houses and many years of collecting. She'll have a GRAND time making lots of quilts with love now.

Bonnie, like you, I collect quilt designs. I love revisiting them later, remembering what inspired me to collect them in the first place and marveling at what new inspiration hits me when I see them again.

Bonnie,

Update on my son Steve- he is home from rehab and doing well. We are now waiting on a new heart. Please keep him in your prayers. I would love to win the magazine as I haven't been able to work much and can't afford to buy it right now.

Glad you had a great time in Moline. It's so interesting to get the history lessons- I really love them.
