How perfect is this?
I was sent a free paper pieced witch pattern by a friend, and I’m here to pass it on to you!
I can see this witch made with a slightly pea green face, with some cute eyes and other facial details embroidered on!
It wouldn’t take hardly any bit of fabric at all,
It makes a 4” block! I’m going to have to make me some of these when I get home from New Mexico!
Click HERE for the free pdf file and enjoy!
There are some times in life when I’m just feeling a bit, well---- witchy! Yesterday was one of them….how would YOU react if you got a condescending email like this:
Bonnie, dear, In the second paragraph of "About Bonnie" you use the possessive pronoun "its". Please take the apostrophe out of it because 'it's' means "it is".
V J, founder and director of The Association for the Encouragement of Correct Punctuation, Spelling and Usage in Public Communications.
First off…..typos happen, right? And I do my best to correct them. But the fact that someone would send such a high fallootin’ email over ONE apostrophe just really stuck in my craw.
I spend hours a day writing and re writing….but sometimes even spell check won’t catch things. An apostrophe. REALLY!?
And because I’m feeling a bit witchy…..I think I’ll leave the apostrophe there just on principle a while longer!
I plan on leaving it there to keep me humble, to remind me that I am not perfect, that no one is perfect, and I quite like myself that way.

Honestly some people just have too much time on their hands. Thanks for the cute little witch pattern--she is adorable.
L,A-
Some people just have to complain. Thanks for all your post. It's or its wonderful?????
You know what you should do?? Just change that line to read "using stash to it is full potential." HAHA!! That would make me laugh every time I read it, just knowing *why* it was written that way! :)
My attitude: Apostrophe THIS!! Agree some people spend too much time looking at "crap" stuff like punctuation when there are way too many more serious things is this world to be concerned with: homelessness, hunger, sick children. Come on, people get real and get a "file", I mean "life". Typos happen!!
Like the witchy, she could be used in all sorts of colors!

I would reply back that in times of old, quilters would purposely twist a block or make an error to show their humility. Tell her you're a true quilter. I get emails like that sometimes too...they make me feel a little "witchy" too.
Send back an email saying..."it's happens!!!". Maybe she will get the message.

It's nice to know the correct way to spell or even say words but I think the way it is presented to the "perpetrator" is the key. You can nicely and quietly correct someone or be pompous and/or possibly loud in public doing it. Plus, if I did not know someone well enough, I would not correct them unless they asked me for help. I have such a terrible memory that in about 10 minutes, I will not remember which way is the correct way to use these spellings. Like ... or more correctly ... as others said, there are so many more important things going in the world right now that this is no "biggy"!!!
Seriously? ...
Ignore them, gosh if they ever corrected the stuff I write, even if I don't blog. I typo so much! Its (left it out on purpose! in protest)part of a person's personality. I used to do a better job until I had some eye surgery, now I swear I'm dyslexic. I think its more important to focus on the intent than using the exact correct spelling or word.
Seems to me that she had to create this "Association" to make herself seem important. I wonder just how many members there are in the "Association". There is not enough time to check and recheck everything that we write. Nothing would get done if we did. Bonnie in Iowa browne426@hotmail.com
Someone who looks for faults in other is so insecure they have to put others down in order to make themselves feel superior. Most of your commenters refer to the writer as "she," I'm betting it's a "he" and probably doesn't quilt, but spends time looking for an opportunity to correct someone else. A really courteous person overlooks mistakes and avoids hurting other peoples feeling. Obviously written by a snob.
Aaarrrggghhh... I have a "friend" just like that! Try to butter you up, while they correct you, and cut you right off at the knees...
"Bonnie, dear"...??? really? Translation, Bonnie, stupid.. I agree with the above... they need to get a life... leaf it tha way it's is.. ha ha..
I do that to MY own children, but it would be RUDE to correct others when mistakes aren't going to hurt anyone. You have a life, that person doesn't. I'm sorry someone was rude to you. I would send you correction about pattern math, or calculations, so that others wouldn't cut wrong, but just to be picky...NO!
thinking someone is "having a lend" of you (it means they are joking)
otherwise, WAY too much free time!!
How rude to call you Bonnie Dear. only your Mother has a right to do that and I'm betting it was not your Mother---get a life VG
oh no! will the spelling Police please leave the building and take the Quilting Police with you!LOL
YOU Go Girl!
Thanks for the cute Witch pattern, this can be fun to play with! It's hard to believe someone can be that bold to make the comment about an apostrophe. If your blog was about punctuation, maybe, but it is about quilting! All we are interested in is the quilty information. Leave the apostrophe for a while, I'll smile every time I see it!
Good grief! Who the heck cares? We don't that is for sure! Keep up the good work. We love you just the way you are! Love your witch pattern. Thanks!
As the others have said - we dont care. Wait I left out something. :)
Deb
Did you point out their mistake as well... they should not have capitalised the "I" in the third word as it is not the start of a sentence....
Bonnie, dear, In the second paragraph
should read
Bonnie, dear, in the second paragraph....
We all make mistakes, what's one little error? Never mind her! No one is perfect like you said which is true, that's been my motto for years,I'm hearing impaired and I'm proud of who I am and what qualities I have as a human being. That makes each of us unique is our own way! Chin up Bonnie! :)

I read it as trying to be a cute/funny way to correct, not a condescending way to correct. I think it's possible that that's how she (I'm assuming) meant to come across. I'm a grammar snob, too, but I'm also human and make mistakes, so I don't correct others, even though some errors, like apostrophes drive me crazy.
I recently bought an IPad it changes nicknames to other words and ALWAYS changes its to it's (I had to change the first its, to remove its apostrophe), Ha! Ha! I'd just chalk it up to, some people are always looking for mistakes. Thanks for a wonderful blog I enjoy it every time I stop by. And to be honest, I read blogs everyday and I don't notice or look for mistakes. ;-> Toni Anne
I'd put a bunch more apostrophes in there, randomly, to be "witchy".
Sounds like she has too much time on her hands! Clearly she isn't a serious quilter :c)
Dont waste your time on people like that It's a big WHO CARES'''''''''''''''
The high falutin' title of the commenter gives me a chuckle too. I envision someone with nothing better to do with their time than critique someone elses apostrophes. LOL
Got RRCB loaded and partly quilted today. I'm loving it even more. I think it will be the Christmas quilt on my bed this year.
Tell her your friend says the ' ain't nuttin 'cepting dirt! She should clean her monitor. Don't sweat the small stuff!
way to go, bonnie! blogging language usage is common chit-chat ... we all type away a mile a minute, self expression and sharing the object, not grammer, nor punctuation or spelling. a nit-picker has nothing else to blog about; ignore!
that must be the good witch of the west; thanx for the pattern.
To be fair, the person did not publicly castigate you, it was done in private. I am willing to bet that the Association V J is a "member" of does not exist. I think they were just yanking your chain! Thanks for the witch!
Thanks for the witch pattern! People have way too much time on their hands to indulge in such non-sense. Hang in there! Penny
Oh those punctuation police!!
Blame it on autocorrect and move on....you should see the things my iPad types on its own...lol
Bonnie, dear, we all love you just the way you are! You could really drive the person nuts if you reply with an email full of witchy "mistakes"!
We are all entitled to make mistakes. Someone put this on facebook.....
The one that angers you
controls you.
Don't give anyone that power!!!
especially the one who does it intentionally.....
I think she should get our message!!!!
The punctuation police are alive and well, right along with the quilt police. How nice that they have so much time on their hands, that they can spend it criticizing others, LOL!
The little witch is adorable. The grammarian is not. Hope I misspelled that!
Sounds like the poor lady needs a hobby, maybe you should offer to teach her to quilt? I do proofreading all the time, but come on there's a time and a place, and blogs aren't it. You do a wonderful job as attested to by all the people who read, buy and enjoy your stuff everyday. Don't let the few ruin it for the many, or for you.
Karen
You have got to be kidding!!! Who do they think they are? WOW! Thanks for the cute witch pattern. It really "fits" you emailer. (Is that a word?)
It's the 'dear' part that really gets me! While I appreciate being corrected when I've made a mistake, I certainly don't want it coming at me with such a snippy attitude! Sheesh!
Enjoy the sunshine in NM, and just remember this.....I googled her association and nothing came up for it.....while you have over 2200 followers who love you and thoroughly appreciate everything you do! Nuf sed! (oooh, I'll bet she hates that kind of stuff!) lol
ARgh! I hate to say, that I have a sister that pulls that baloney! If I misspeak either by accident or ignorance, she gives me the "you smell" look and corrects me. I call her "Lady Cathering Deburgh" from Pride and Prejudice, because no one was more condescending than that hilarious character. My arrogant sis doesn't know I call her that, but now she just makes me laugh inside when she gets high handed.
Really!?! You must be kidding. Life is too short to worry about things like this. Who is VJ anyway!?!? If he/she had said "Dear Bonnie" instead of "Bonnie, dear" which sounds soooo condescending his/her comments may of been better received so maybe they need to brush up on THEIR English!
Hmm....based on the long name of the "organization" I think VJ was trying to be funny. Apparently he/she missed the mark! I come from a family of grammar and spelling sticklers, and we all notice reader boards and church message boards that have been attacked by random apostrophes and misspelled words. What has been seen cannot be unseen! I just take a deep breath and keep going, knowing that I don't HAVE to fix it!
Bonnie. I am always amazed at your writing ability. Keep up the wonderful blog and ignore the small talk!!!!
Tis the season for "Witchy" stuff. Thanks for sharing all you do with your Blog!
Yea, Bonnie
I tend to think that VJ was trying to be funny, what with the association and such. She may have missed her mark with ya'll, but from a completely outside perspective, I giggled a little at her association. But then again I grew up with a grammar-conscious mom and married into a grammar-conscious mother-in-law.
Wow. She should be sending her "nice" note to every iPhone in the world because iT likes to decide FOR you how things should be spelled...and iT's often wrong - VERY wrong. Silly woman.
I love the way you write...free, unaffected, unpretentious, entertaining, informative. I feel like I'm reading a diary, travelogue and quilting book all in one. That's what writing is all about: communication - a gift of yourself. Not apostrophes.
Thanks for the link to the great witch pattern :)
I love the witch, and your "humility apostrophe"... seriously.
Hey Bonnie!
Did you hear about the apostrophe that walked into a bar.
The barman said, "You're in the wrong place!"
Boom, Boom!
Hugs,
Rainy in Australia
Oh come on!
I think somebody (the apostrophe police) has a little too much time on her hands!
Someone who worries over an apostrophe needs to get a life. Maybe, if they started quilting, they just might find that 'life' that they need. Have a GREAT DAY! Cute witch, too!
In the words of my DD....whatever. ;)
Who even sees that stuff?
You go girl! Life is too short.........to worry about apostrophe's LOL
I ain't scared of no high flying comma!
Thanks for the witch pattern. Its so cute...
There you go... Im going on an apostrophe boycott. I saw an article on CBS Sunday Morning a couple years ago about two guys who do nothing but ride around the US correcting grammar errors on signs. Wonder who pays them and how much they make?
What a sad life if punctuation is your main focus! Years ago I heard a quote that went something like this: "You must feel so inferior or why act so superior." BTW I'm sure my punctuation isn't right either, "stuff happens". At least in his comedy sketch, the late, great, Victor Borgia made punctuation fun! Love the the blog, have been lurking for awhile, but I just had to come out in the open for this :)
I agree with Quiltbirdie's comments. I see punctuation and spelling errors all the time! They just pop out at me and it's hard not to correct or comment about them. In my other life I was a school teacher, so it was part of my job.
David Ogilvy, a noted and famous advertising man actually agrees with you on your punctuation. You do the best that you can and sometimes you miss something. AT least you are writing, at least you are contributing something positive! I think the first thing you should do is yawn at the comment. If the person hates punctuation so much that she reads, well then start her own blog! In the meantime here is something else a bit more worthwhile:It is not only the month for Halloween, but breast cancer awareness month!!! Treat yourself or a loved one because you care! I am just stopping by with a reminder to do your self breast exam.
Here's a fun place to start! Everybody loves boob lube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p8pIHy2GRI
Disregard that comment!!!! Your fans love you, you do a wonderful job...Enjoyed meeting you a couple of years ago at Quiltfest Jacksonville Fl. Bonita (Bonnie)
http://anneartika.blogspot.com/2009/09/quilting-arts-colorplay-article.html Is a spot I found through Google. There you will see VJ (Verdi Johnson) doing her apostrophe thing again. What a PITA!
Appreciate your witch pattern, it arrived just in time!
