Bonus Triangles. That's what!
I have a huge box of bonus triangles to trim up...and I've put it off and put it off, but you know how it goes...eventually they niggle at me enough that I have to put them into something.
I spent yesterday afternoon with the Lifetime Movie Network on "True Story Thursday" and squared, de-dog-earred, pressed, and started piecing this border together. It's what I call an "EXTREME" border, but I am loving how it is going to turn out.
The hard part? I'm not sure how it's going to turn the corners....I'm just going on it and I figure I'll deal with it when I get there. Maybe not the smartest move, but there you have it. I'll piece it longer that the quilt center, and then figure what I need to do as far as spacer border to build up the quilt center to make my pieced border fit. Sound insane? probably.
The issue is...it's an on point quilt center (Can't show it to you yet! It's for next book! Nanananana!) SO to get the math right, I figured out that the border needs to be an on-point setting too, as this is. So...we will see how it works out!
I'm wishing I had been leader/endering this all along! AND...I am hoping it really helps deplete all these bonus squares that have added up over various projects (not to mention being gifted to me by students who didn't want to be bothered with them LOL!)
It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL outside. This afternoon I'd really like to take one of the dogs down to Salem Lake and walk/jog/hike the trails around the lake. I'm thinking it will be even busier down there tomorrow with everyone wanting to catch some rays and air, and I leave early Sunday morning for Michigan, so it's today or bust....

I love the look of it. Can't wait to see it on your quilt. Cheddar is not one of my favorite colors but I love it on this border treatment!!! Do you ever come as far east as NH to teach??/
That is an amazing border! I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Enjoy your weather, NM is in for a couple of days of possible winter storms but it will be nice again by Monday.

That border looks just great! I'm saving everything larger than 1,5" and I also save these bonus cut offs, so it's great to give us "savers" some ideas ;o)

That Cheddar is beautiful with the triangles. Can't wait to see the finished project.
I hope you enjoy your time by the lake. Here in north Florida we have opened the windows to listen to the birds sing and to let the early spring air brighten our house. Happy Spring!
By the way I love the border. I got caught up in the spring thing and didn't mention it. The colors are fantastic.
I like how you used the cheddar, how fun! That True Story movie grabbed me too so I sat and sewed the whole four hours (doing laundry during breaks).

It looks awesome. I know how it is with those bonus triangles, it's hard to throw them away, but they're such a pain to press and trim. I sew mine when I sew the main seam, so at least the sewings done. Can't wait to see this one!

Wow -- great border and great use of left over triangles. When you said you're not sure how you will go around the corner. It made me think of the marching bands turning the corner at the Rose Parade. Some do it with an anchor person but others do it by some stopping earlier than others. So, think of way 2, but what would happen if you had every other row of triangles going sideways? Easy to think hard to describe. First row would face same as side border, second face top border, third would face side. Maybe that describes it better. Have fun with it.
what a beautiful border. It makes me want to get sewing quilts again. But it will have to wait, too many other projects!!

Great border! If you have problems with the corners, use cornerstones! I always like how they look on busy borders, it provides a resting place for the eye. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Bonnie, I absolutely love that border. I taught a little pieced border class yesterday and realized that I really like pieced borders better than just a fabric strip. There needs to be some kind of piecing in there for me. This is an awesome border!

Bonnie - for those of us who want to get started EARLY on this VERY BEAUTIFUL POSSESSED BORDER would you be able to tell us the SIZE that you squared these to? I have a ton of them and just might get started squaring them up for my FUTURE OBSESSION!!!
