Santa By Yellow Freight!

They are HERE!!  Whoowhoooo!

A pallet of Essential Triangle Tools arrived at the Yellow Freight Depot in Kernersville, North Carolina at approximately 3 a.m. this morning! The Hubster  is already on his way to go pick them up with the truck. All of the remaining pre-orders will start going out today!

The Wells Fargo Wagon song from yesterday did the trick!

We will start with the invoices from November 19th and work our way until current.

I’ve got Christmas music playing.  A good breakfast for our bellies, and we are starting in.

We will get out as many as we can up until post office closing time tomorrow and then make a beeline for the cabin where we will spend a relaxing Christmas with our two sons, plus one – Jason is bringing his girlfriend Jenny, which means I won’t be the only girl-person in the house.  HOORAY!

Do you think I could get her interested in quilting?  We shall see!

We are hoping the weather stays clear enough  for bundling up for ATV excursions around the mountain, hot chocolate and fun.

Cookie baking also starts on Saturday – I am just making a few kinds as there are only 5 of us for a short weekend.

We are WEBBED!

For those who don’t know what webbing is, it’s covered in my “Webbing the Top” post found under the Tips & Techniques tab at the top of the blog.  Rows are joined with continuous piecing where rows are completed across the quilt, with chaining threads holding the rows together.  Once done, the quilt is OFF THE FLOOR!  I can now sew the rows together with or without clipping the chaining threads.

I’m liking this!  So many fun scraps!

I haven’t gotten as far as thinking about borders yet.  Still recovering from how insane it was to “design floor” this sashing.

I had hoped to get farther than this, but my “day of sewing” turned into a day of errands – I ran out for a few things and ended up battling terrible traffic in the Hanes Mall area of Winston Salem.  We call this the “Holiday Hanes Mall Crawl” because traffic just DOES NOT MOVE.

And what’s worse….people are so impatient that they will push their way past a yellow-light-turning-red and find that they are now STUCK in the middle of an intersection blocking traffic for those who now have the green light coming across ---and it snowballs.  SO STUPID.

I would much rather wait out the light, be the first one to cross when it turns green, than have everyone coming the other direction beeping at me because I am now blocking THEIR way.

There is a reason I live in the boonies in a “one traffic light” town.  I am not a “hustle and bustle” type person.

BUT!  I did obtain the delicious smoked turkey that will be the main event of our Christmas dinner on Sunday!

Hourglass Leader & Ender challenge still in progress!

Who is ready for part FIVE of our En Provence Mystery tomorrow?  I’ll be putting the finishing touches on the instructions this evening.  SO Excited about this clue!

Have you checked our Mystery Monday Link-Up from week 4?  SO Much En Provence Goodness happening globally!  Yippee!  Entries close at midnight tonight, so if you want to share something, get it in there – but don’t stress if you miss this week, we’ll do it AGAIN on Monday.

And the December Quilty Box Gift-Away is in full swing!  We are drawing for our winner on Christmas Eve, so be sure you get your entry in on THAT POST.

  1. Thanks for all the great pictures of the garlic knot quilt. I gave in and made one block for myself this morning. They are so fun to make!

  2. Yesterday's mishap with the design floor made me laugh (and wince over the knee pain). We love our pets, but why do they always want attention at that crucial moment? The way you did the quilt sashings blew me away. It's so unique and so colorful! You are INTREPID! You called the sashings heinous, but you did it anyway because you knew it would be awesome! I LOVE the quilt top. I definitely want to make this quilt! I've got to learn to work faster. But no quilting today. Christmas present wrapping and cookie baking will fill my day. Now that my children all have families of their own, we get together for the whole big Christmas Eve party: food, games, Nativity and carols, and present exchange. Have a very Merry Christmas, Bonnie. Thanks for sharing so freely and enriching the lives of so many people!

  3. Good quote. Beautiful quilt. I have three vintage quilt tops, one I bought with you and Kevin in St. Louis. I need to take photos and send them to you. Serious cookie baking going on here. No pfeffernuesse or lebkuchen, but I did make springerle cookies.

  4. Love your Garlic Knots quilt. In an earlier quilt cam you talked about how you sewed together the blocks so they were hanging together before putting rows by rows together. You were sewing on the Lozengo quilt then. I can see you are doing this on the Garlic Knots quilt and wish you would give us some of your tips at a quilt cam. I use the method when putting pieces together in a block and it is a great way to avoid the pieces set upside down, but I am not sure I will manage this on a whole quilt.Merry christmas to you and your family.

  6. LOL DH makes the pfeffernuesse at our house - early in the month and mails them to his siblings and their families. His mother made them every year and he keeps up the tradition.

I love this garlic knot quilt. It's on my list!

  7. Do we think you can interest your girlfriend-in-law in quilting? It depends on how long she wants to remain a girlfriend! Make friends with the mom and you'll be fine, unless something else happens. Enemies with the mom and you're gone for sure.

  8. Merry Christmas, Bonnie!

I hope you have wonderful time making family memories. Thank you for all you do. You are such a gift to me. My life is better for having you in it. I will be enjoying some great sewing time tomorrow getting caught up on unit 4. And I can hardly wait to see the next part of the mystery. En provenance has brought me such peace of mind and I am thoroughly enjoying the hum hum of my sewing machine as I happily piece along.

    Here's to a happy and healthy 2017,
    Paula

  11. I have to tell you, I didn't think I liked the Garlic Knot block... UNTIL... I saw the multitude of blocks laid out with sashing and cornerstones! Now?? I absolutely LOVE it!!! (Too bad I can't start a new quilt at the moment!)

  13. I Love that Quote, Bonnie! It is so true.
I also love your Garlic Knots Quilt top!
I can't wait to start using the Essential Triangle Tool on this week's clue. I was explaining this tool to my Friend in Statesville, NC tonight. I am going to forward the intro to her, and have her go to your Blog if she decides to join us. She is trying to get over walking pneumonia. She said she wants to do this sometime, but this may not be the year for her to do so.

Have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Blessed New Year!

I am not a large town person either, that is why I retired back to the country from the SOCAL area. We have5+ stop lights in each of Soldotna and Kenai, but none in Kasilof, where I live. We had one and a blinking light where I grew up in MN, but have lived in huge cities, also. I prefer the small quiet peaceful country living.

  14. Bonnie, the Garlic Knots quilt top looks wonderful! It is one of my choices for a quilt for my grandsons. Thank you for the tip about webbing a quilt.

I hope you and your family have a beautiful Christmas together and a wonderful New Year!

    Take care.
