Show to Us, Share With Us!

20160317_210536
This is Sheila!

Sheila lives in Virginia, and I have enjoyed her company both as a student in my workshops when I am near enough for her to attend, and also as a traveling friend!  She and her hubby joined me on our Germany trip a couple of years ago.

But this is MICHIGAN!

And in walks Shelia to our Thursday night guild meeting with the Capitol Quilters in Lansing!  I am sure I did a double take.  Or triple.  Maybe even quadruple.

And as we hugged each other and the story began to unfold I came to learn the Sheila had driven something like 13 hours from Virginia to Michigan because her sister lives in the Lansing area as is also a member of this guild!  A bigger bonus –not only did I get to meet Sheila’s sister, but her very sweet mother as well.  I had the trio of them as a big surprise for the meeting.  Just when you think you won’t know a soul, in walk some friendly faces putting you right at home!

Sheila also thought ahead – WAY ahead And because she was driving, she packed her car full of the quilts she has made from my designs and joined the show & share line up to let her scrappy lovin’ voice be heard.

This beautiful green/blue concoction is her version of Old Tobacco Road from the Free patterns tab down in the section where the “old” mysteries live.  Isn’t it gorgeous??  Whooohwoooo!

Her scraps just SING!

This is Oregon or Bust from Scraps & Shirttails II.  I really enjoy seeing YOUR color choices and your fabrics come together in your own quilts.  Each one is so beautiful!

Sometimes small fits the bill!

This is Little Monkey, another freebie from the free patterns tab.  Who doesn’t love cute and scrappy Monkey Wrench blocks?  This one comes from 2 1/2’’ and 1 1/2’’ strips straight from the drawers of scrap strips and pre-cut squares.

I so love this quilt…doesn’t it just explode into wow right before your eyes?  Yellow is such a happy springy color.  And those 4 patches just build themselves in between the lines of chain piecing other things!

Random Ohio Stars from the free patterns tab!

Isn’t this one great? Perfect couch size for a snuggle-nap, and all of those fun scraps make each block just that much different from the next.

There was SO MUCH show & share from the guild meeting night and the two workshops that I have divided this in to TWO posts worth of photos.  I’ve kept the vintage and antique quilts out for the next time.  They deserve their own space, because they deserve their own lime light.

Show & Share, Lansing MI 2016

Yesterday’s trip home took longer than expected.  My 2 1/2 hour layover in Detroit ended up close to 6 hours.  By the time I reached my front door it was 1:30am.  I slept like a log.  I still feel like a log! LOL!

I’m gathering my wits, tackling the to-do pile in a much slower manner this morning.  I’m happy to be home with family, ,and Sadie and Emmy Lou are getting loads of attention.

Quilt-Cam will likely happen NEXT week, but for now let’s play it by ear until I find out what this week is going to bring.

Today is the day that Shamu gets traded in for a new van.  It’s weird, but Shamu and I have shared so many adventures together that I am having a hard time letting her go!  More on that when it happens too.

  1. Wow great quilts from your patterns. Lovely to meet friends when you are away from home. I bet you have this happen more often than the average person because you make friends everywhere you go. Happy Monday!

Oh all the lovely scrappy quilts are so very beautiful! I feel your pain on trading in a much loved vehicle. I missed my traded in car for a long time, but eventually have grown to love my newer vehicle. Pros and cons to everything :)Anne Deedrick

  3. These quilts are so beautiful! And so different than yours as shown in the books or free patterns (thanks for those!)the difference is in the fabrics chosen. Your quilts in books, etc. are beautiful. The ones brought to the guild meetings and workshops are different, due to colors chosen, and just as beautiful but different. Nice to see how others pick the colors they choose. Even just subtle changes, say a different sized border, affects the whole project. Nice to be able to see so many different options!

  4. Always like seeing the quilts you post. Kind of reves up my quilting engine...which is a good thing :)

Yes dreams do come true - usually with a lot of work behind them. It is childish to think we can just 'wish' things into being.... at my age I KNOW you have to DO something.... thank you Bonnie for your Inspiration Posts in the daily blog.

  5. What a Surprise for you to see Sheila from Virginia and her family too. The slide show was great as always. You were busy clicking away there. Love the wavy quilting on that Tumbler near the end. My FB feed is sharing memories of the day 3 years ago when I was in your Block Party Class in Portland. Fun memories for me!

  6. Bonnie, I can't imagine how you graciously deal with the reality that you will not remember everyone ! I know lots of people around the country from my work, and when I see them out of context, my head goes blank ! But you must really have a lot of names and faces in your brain - - - amazing there is room in there for quilt patterns, too !! LOL

  7. Bonnie,
I just traded in my 11 year old Trailblazer and I miss it so much. Hubby thinks I am being silly. I just keep thinking of all the wonderful memories with it. Stuffing it so full at a quilter's sale with friends, it might have not been that safe, but it provided so much fun and laughter. Many, many trips to and from retreats in all kinds of weather, but always a safe trip. It was so good to see you feeling the same way about your van. So glad I read that.
