Sharing those Traverse City Quilts!

Show & share is the best part of any workshop or guild presentation!

And no, the projects do not have to be finished, nor do they have to be quilts from my designs for me to want to see them!

They help me get to know you, and see what you like, and learn what you are working on, and they just inspire me so much!

These little Lucy Boston blocks have been an on going project for a while, and if you could get up close and personal with the fussy cutting that has happened in each one your heart would burst!

Each one is a kaleidoscope of pattern and color.  Made fro elongated hexagons, these are very similar to grandmother’s flower garden, but the effect is a starburst of motion, what a delight!

How many of you are working on one of these?

There were some Grand Illusions shown!

This IS Michigan, and they are proud of their Grand Hotel!

Similar but opposite!

These Canadian friends took my Sister’s Choice workshop in Sault Ste Marie about a year and a half ago. Look how different these two quilts are..but they are the same pattern!  i LOVED seeing this!  And then we laughed about how nicely they matched their quilts as well!  Fun gals!

Allietare came to play too!

Sue brought her great grandmother’s tulip applique!

Isn’t this gorgeous?

And you have to see the back:

Modern you say?  1930s we say!

There are more to share in the slide show.  If for any reason the slide show doesn’t work just know that it is a Picasa issue, and has nothing to do with me so telling me about it won’t help because I can’t change it, they have to.  BUT!  You can always click the image below that will take you to the photo album, and at the upper left of the screen there is a slide show button there, and you can get it to play there if you don’t want to click to each photo.  Picasa is a free service owned by google, and I’m grateful for it, but I can’t make it work all of the time.

Click the image below if you are unable to view the slide show on your mobile device, you’ll be taken to the photo album for viewing.

Show & Share, Traverse City 2016

I’m here in Kalamazoo!  And it was a zoo getting here.

After two flight delays getting out of Traverse City, I made it, but my bags didn’t.  We wen’t back to the airport at 11pm to go pick them up so I’m feeling kind of “slowly moving” today.  Time to kick it into gear though, my ride will be here in 15 minutes and we’ve got a double duty day.  Cathedral Stars workshop today, guild presentation tonight!  Whooooooeeee!

2 spots available!

Yesterday I was made aware of Fiona and her sister's inability to attend our July cruise to Alaska do to their father's health. If you were wanting to do this Cruise only to find that there were no openings, we now have space for two! The email from Craftours states:
“we will reach out to Bonnie and see if she can send an eblast out saying that two spots have opened up for this cruise. we will also send out an eblast announcing it as well. if you have any friends who can take this cruise now, it would be fine to change the names. we will do our best to try to fill these two spaces for you."

I learned from Fiona that this is for a balcony cabin, and if you are interested in joining me on the Alaska cruise in July, click the Alaska cruise tab at the top of the blog for more info.  The link is there to contact Craftours for any questions, rates, etc.

Quiltville Quote of the Day!

Stay away from people who gossip behind your back and spread rumors and half-truths. We can do better, much better. Stop the gossip! If it’s none of your business, don’t spread it, don’t listen to it, go quilt something!

Smith Mountain Morning quilt from my book Scraps & Shirttails II.

Have a great day, everyone!

  1. Sorry the flights out of Traverse City were difficult, Bonnie ... but glad you made it to Kalamazoo okay. We loved having you visit, learned so much and had a LOT of fun. Your energy level and love of quilting is infectious and keeps those who spent time with you on a "quilter's high" for days afterwards. Thanks for all you do!! Linda

  3. I love Lucy Boston blocks. I'm using only scraps from the scrap saver system for the blocks. I make the hexes in sets of 4, 8, or 12 and hope that the groups will play nice together. Sometimes, I have to wait for my quilting friends to send me some of their scraps, before I can coordinate the fabric in a block.

  4. I'm surprised you didn't drive from Traverse City to Kalamazoo. It would've been about a 3 hour drive. I guess I thought it would be about the same amount of time with less bother.

I'm intending to do some Patchwork of the Cross blocks after I finish Balket & Pasacagilla. I'll bring my Ballet "blocks" as far as I've gotten them to class on Saturday. I'm using Inklingo for the projects.

  5. Lately whenever I click on a Picasa album I see this notice at the top of the page.

    Moving on from Picasa

Since the launch of Google Photos, we’ve had a lot of questions around what this means for the future of Picasa. After much thought and consideration, we’ve decided to retire Picasa over the coming months in order to focus entirely on a single photo service in Google Photos. We believe we can create a much better experience by focusing on one service that provides more functionality and works across mobile and desktop, rather than divide our efforts across two different products.

  6. I am also doing Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses blocks. Some with intentional fabric purchased for them, some with scraps, and some from the give away table at guild! Each one is my favorite until the next one comes along!
