Cincinnati Cathedral Stars!

Another great day to play in the beautiful city of Cincinnati, Ohio!

We filled up our hours with a Cathedral Stars Workshop, and all of the fun that goes along with it.

From four patches to half square triangles to long tall star points ala the tri-recs rulers – we did it all and had a ball!

I love this workshop for easing people into the realm of scrappy.

My quilt has 3 pieces of planned yardage – the half square triangles are just one black and one red.  My setting triangles are the same black…..YES!  Bonnie DOES do yardage quilts!  The star points and the border ore the SAME blue.  The only place that I go scrappy in this quilt is in the 4 patches and it is a great way to wet your feet and see now you like playing with the little jewels that sparkle behind the stars along with the larger pieces of yardage.

This pattern is found under the free patterns tab at the top of the blog.

Pressing and sub cutting strip sets!

Show off that chain of 4 patches, girl!

Susan and her sweet 1911 hand crank!

Susan was with me on our Peru trip this past November, and it was really great to see her come to class!  it was also fun to share our love of vintage machines and talk about her sweet new acquisition.  And yes, controling piecing on a hand crank is easy if you use a seam guide to help feed the fabric against.

Here’s a little video of Susan in action!

Those blocks are fabulous, ladies!

Thanks for coming to spend the day with me!

Cathedral Stars, Cincinnati, OH 2016

And I have a confession to make.  I was supposed to draw the winner of the quilt show tickets last night, but we got all caught up in the last episode of Downton Abbey!  I was so pooped by the time that was over, I went to bed.

I’m running to teach a Sister’s Choice workshop today, followed by my guild presentation tonight, so likely this drawing will happen TOMORROW evening!  Believe me, I won’t forget – not permanently! So just give me a bit of time, and we’ll do that drawing.

  1. Loved the quote on my quilt. The W/E was awesome! Now I need a remedial Turkey & Catherdral stars w/e to get some more done. I hope to make it tonight to see your guild talk.

  2. Edison was a great philosopher or at least was a successful businessman. When his light bulb failed again (after many different tries) he was asked what he was going to do next, after this last failure. He answered (paraphrased) failure?!? This isn't a failure. I now know that this way is not the right way to make this lightbulb work. Meaning of course that he is that much closer to success. Try and try again, until you get it right!

  3. Have been considering making this quilt with the dark for the background of the four patch squares. I would love to see more progress for this quilt. Can anyone post more from this quilt.
    Thanks,
