A Texas Sized Show & Share!

20160103_114724
What do you get with 5 days straight of workshops, two of which are a Mystery that won’t be revealed until April when it appears in Quiltmaker Magazine?

A WHOLE LOT of saved up show and share ready and able to inspire you to get those projects out and get working on them!

I love taking photos where quilters gather.  You should HEAR the laughter and the chatter happening.

What is said around the ironing board STAYS at the ironing board…but I’ll be chuckling for a good long time!

What has been really fun is that many of these ladies only see each other once a year.  So there is MUCH catching up going on.  Who has new grand babies?  Who’s son just graduated from college?  Who has moved from one area of the country to another, but still comes back for these quilt holidays.

There is a whole lot of living happening in between, and stories are being shared while machines whir and hum in the background.  It’s a place of gladness. And I was really glad to be there!

Besides, how could you NOT smile with all of that rainbow behind you?

Matching tops are not mandatory -
But it makes for a good picture!

I’ll miss you, ladies!

Sew much fun!

Smiles all around!

So let's get busy with the show and share portion, are you ready?

I put ALL of the slide show pictures from 5 days in Plano together in this one show.  Some of these you may have seen before from Thursday, but I wanted to keep these together in the archives, and I know you will enjoy them again anyway.  They are worth seeing twice!

Focus on the Labels!

20151231_125654

Keep an eye out!

In the slide show below, pay attention to labels and quilt backs – there are many!  In the two above examples, Allison used a vintage doily as a backdrop to her many details about her quilt.  Great idea!  Notice that it is attached to the quilt BEFORE quilting so it is part of the back itself.  Great idea, no?

Deb uses all the leftover bits and crumbs to make her labels a thing of beauty, each one definitely One-of-a-kind!

I also love that these were written in their OWN HANDWRITING!  I've written about this before. The connection we have to people through our handwriting is quickly disappearing as printed and embroidered computerized fonts take our individuality away.

Everyone writes differently.  It's an identifying factor of who we are, or who we were as time marches on.  Even if you print your labels from the computer, or stitch them out by embroidery machine, please SIGN YOUR WORK in your own hand.  It's important!

Click the image below if you are unable to view the slide show on your mobile device.  You’ll be taken to the photo album for viewing.

  1. They do like a group that knows how to have a good time. There are no friendships like old friendships, but even new ones can become old ones if we invest the time.

Wow! So many different quilts and patterns. I love the different fabric choices on the familiar patterns. Thank you, Bonnie for stoking the fires of creativity. Mandy L.

  4. the Circus Wheel quilt is in Willyne Hammerstein's 1st book as Valse Brillante. I wondered why it should look so familiar to me. Sharyn in Kalama

  6. So glad I took the time to come to my desktop to see the slide show (I love my iPad, but it won't do the slide shows). There in the middle was Diane who I met in Italy!! Hi Diane!!

I love seeing all the different backs. And I love seeing all the Grand Illusions finished. I am not done, and am seriously considering changing my green for a different, lighter one. Glad I got to see them all done.

  10. Thinking all of the very interesting quilts are NOT made with matchy-matchy fabric. To be really interesting, you have to think out of the box. You can see this with Bonnie's Mystery Quilts. The variety of fabric quilters chose to make the MQs is amazing. And 99% of the time gorgeous too.

  11. Thank you sooooo much for telling us the quilt pattern for the quilt shown in the quote of the day and the approximate date. Do you think this one is EPP? Do you know the size of the blocks?

  12. What a wonderful group of quilts at the show & tell in Plano Texas. I especially like the pieced backs that incorporated the name of the quilt as part of the backing. What a wonderful idea. So inspiring to see such a wide variety! stitchinggrandma.wordpress.com
